Hello My Blues Brothers & Sisters,

Spending time at The Historic Greeley Inn this Halloween weekend was so wonderful!!  When I got the call from my girl Yolanda, (River Jam Music Festival Organizer) to play with Todd, I was immediately excited!!  My Best Frend Wally agreed to take the trip with me (Thank Goodness) and protect me from any ghouls or goblins that might be hanging around. lol

So, we came upon the Historic Greeley Inn and were immediately warmly welcomed by Adrian and Teodora, the owners.  The place was so warm and inviting with tons of character and charm.  We relaxed and I worked on my music before the event and even nodded off for a second or 2...

Then the party got started, todd kicked off thE nigt with the hottest set ever!  Then it was show time for this "little" blues gal.  He called me up and it was magic.... (and a complete blur...Wally thank you for the video) lol

We also had to "fall behind" so we all got to bed late and settled into the best sleep ever!  Only to wake up to Wally knocking on my door!!

We all met for breakfast and got to know each other a little better.  But we didnt say 'goodbye". We will be doing an event there in February.... (ROAD TRIP ANYONE??)

Hello My Blues Brothers & Sisters,

I am in Topeka, Kansas, just got back from an incredible jam @ Sidelines with Josh Vowell and the Rumble. The area blues societies winner in their IBC challenge..

Also had the pleasure of seeing TUF (Trampled Under Foot) who actually won the IBC 2 years ago. Incredible family of musicians with killer chick vox!!

Google these bands if you dont already know them!

I am having the sweetest time with my Uncle Bo's family and cant wait for the rest of the band to arrive.  Rehearsal tomorrow and then our show on Friday.  Ozarks Blues Festival on Saturday to see Ronnie Baker Brooks and friends.  Knuckleheads after that....whew...Then I spend my last day at the lake with friends (and new family)...

I love it here. But There's no place like home!

Missing everyone!!

As many of you know, Sweet Suzi was instrumental in getting an American flag flown in Afghanistan in honor of Koko Taylor on the day of her passing.  Unfortunately, the flag did not arrive in Chicago in time to have Bruce Iglauer (Koko's long time friend and colleague at Alligator Records) present the flag to Koko's family at the funeral service this past Friday.  But, I did hear from Bruce today that the resolution below was read at Koko's funeral, and there was applause at the service after it was read.
Way to go, Suzi!  From what I'm told, the receipt of this flag and it's ceremonial waving, in honor of their beloved Koko, means a great deal to her family and is something that they are very, very proud of.

Koko Taylor: 1928-2009
To the Family of Koko Taylor and the Family of the Blues

On June 3rd 2009, an American flag was flown with distinction on a special mission over Afghanistan . On or about the time of her passing, it was flown in honor of the life of the Queen of Chicago Blues, Koko Taylor.  Over the airwaves in Afghanistan , her music has fallen on the ears of many persons from many countries.

This flag represents all of the people here and from all over the world that this American blues icon has touched with her life and love of music. As a great American, Koko has enhanced our country’s heritage and has helped countless others enrich their lives.

From her gospel roots in Memphis Tennessee , to her throne as the Queen of Chicago Blues, Koko’s heart traveled a path of love through music.  With gratitude to Willie Dixon for discovering her, insisting that she record and Bruce Iglauer for taking her music to the top, Koko shared her gift with a growing audience.  Overcoming life’s trials, she rose to the pinnacle of her profession.

Her last spirited performance in Memphis was a crowning glory to a life that began so humbly nearby.  It gave witness to all in attendance that this woman was, is and shall ever be the Queen of Chicago Blues.

May her contributions to America ’s music live forever in her spirit.

My Blues Brothers & Sisters,

Due to recent communications with my good friend Danielle who is stationed in Afghanistan, we got to pay tribute to one of our dearest Blues legends, Koko Taylor in a very unique way.  There was a flag flown in honor of her on the day she passed in Afghanistan.

It’s such a respectful way to pay tribute to a great lady who really came to represent “ America ’s Music”…

I also just received word that they are sending the flag to Koko's family, hopefully in time for her funeral.
Rocky Nelson is a blues DJ there and he has been instrumental in making this happen...

This is so beautiful and I am so humbled.

xoxo

Hello My Blues Brothers & Sisters,

We are back from Memphis and after a full night's sleep, I am wishing I was back there.  The feeling of community is so strong, even though there are people from all over the world there.  Everyone comes together to celebrate the blues and absorb as much of it as they could.  I was a kid in a candy store and I hated to leave.

We played Thursday and Friday night at a great venue, The Superior, center of the action.  The place was jam packed and the energy of the crowd was intense.  Plus, we had brought our own small posse with us from NY & Jersey.

Saturday night we were selected to play as a merchant favorite at the New Daisy theater.  It was an added bonus and we were more than happy to show our stuff once again.  We will have footage and pics shortly.

If you are a fan of the blues, you need to make it down to Memphis during IBC time.  I will be there next year, as a fan!!

I WILL BE BACK TO YOU WITH SOME OF MY FAVORITE BANDS AND THEIR INFO. STAY TUNED!!!!  IT'S ALL ABOUT SPREADING THE GOOD WORD, BABIES!!!!!

Much love,

Sweet Suzi

Sam "Bluzman" Taylor

1935-2009

Hello My Blues Brothers & Sisters,

I've rewritten this a hundred times.  I am going to make this short and sweet. . . .like Sam. :)

As we all know the Long Island Blues community and beyond suffered a great loss last week.  The loss of Mr. Sam "Bluzman" Taylor. . .

Sam was so unique.  He was warm and gentle, a kind and forgiving friend.  He was a teacher and a mentor and opened his heart to all of us in his music.  He wrote about true life and what inspired him.

We are so lucky to have had him as part of our lives and he will never be emulated or replaced.

Wednesday night at Bobbique's was exactly what Sam would have wanted and his presence was strongly felt throughout the crowd.

I promise you, Sam, to "Keep the Blues Alive" .

My love and sincerest sympathy to his family and loved ones.

Hello My Blues Brothers & Sisters!!

I would like to thank everyone deeply for coming out and supporting me, my band and the blues yesterday at the Riverhead Blues Festival.  It was an honor and a sincere pleasure being there and performing for such a warm and welcoming crowd.  It didn't matter how hot it was, or how sweaty people were, they still danced and they still grooved and enjoyed the hell out of the music!  Nothing like the great outdoors!!

What I saw yesterday was a community.  I saw a lot of friends and familiar faces, but was privileged to meet new ones, of all ages.  The autograph signing was intense and surreal,  I truly felt like a rock star. I was so humbled by all the support and well wishes throughout the day.  Even as I was getting into my car, after Sam's set, people were still saying hello.  I guess it was the RED SHIRT!!  :)

Let's get back to Mr. Sam "Bluzman" Taylor.  He was so sweet, graceful and thankful for being on that stage at the Vaill.  No, he is not the Sam he used to be due to a recent illness, but once he picked up the guitar and started to play, it took me back a ways.  His voice was beautiful and funky and his playing is unmatched still.  He puts his heart and soul into every performance and last night was no different.  I was lucky to be a member of that audience.  I could truly feel the love!

I'd like to send a special thank you out to the Long Island Blues Society and it's volunteers who were working their tails off for us.  I heard someone say that he didn't even work this hard at his "real job".  That tells a lot about the society and the music it supports.

I'd also like to thank Archdeacon, Suzanne Foschino Photography, Richie L'Hommedieu, Zenbock, Gail's face painting, Sharon (my girl in the shade), Rick Lusher, Wally, a special thanks to Dee & Janis (LIBS), Bob Barta, etc. etc. etc.

I will see you all next year!

Much, much love,

SWEET SUZI
