9/21 Hollis Frampton's NOSTALGIA + interview This classic stucturalist film from 1973 by legendary experimental filmmaker Frampton explores the relationship between photographs, moving images, narrative, and memory. Accompanied by a fascinating 1978 interview from the Video Data Bank.
10/05 PERFORMING VIDEO This program looks at some examples of contemporary performance work that goes beyond simple documentation to actively engage with the diverse capabilities of video as a medium. Featuring work by Guillermo Gomez-Pena, Doug Hall, Suzanne Lacy, Bjorn Melhaus, and others as well as SAIC students!
10/19 THE FILMS OF JOSEPH CORNELL Utilizing the same collage techniques and stunning sense of imaginative fantasy as his well-known sculptures, Cornell also crafted dozens of equally beautiful films that transform found footage and low-budget street scenes into melancholy dream-like worlds. The program will feature the highly influential ROSE HOBART (1936), and many more.
11/02 MAX ALMY: PROTO-CYBERPUNK Video and new media artist Max Almy's early-80s investigations of consumer society use fragmented narratives and computer processing to chart the "uneasy relationship between humans and technology"; featuring MODERN TIMES (1979), LEAVING THE 20TH CENTURY (1982), and more!
11/16 VDB NEW RELEASES An exciting, eclectic showcase of the latest and greatest from one of the world's largest collections of videos by contemporary artists, located right here at SAIC! Featuring work by The Speculative Archive, Steve Reinke, Jacqueline Goss, and others.
12/14 THE UNDERGRADUATE FILM/VIDEO FESTIVAL A student run festival of SAIC student work--the first of hopefully many more opportunities for undergrad students!!! In association with ExTV and the Experimental Film Society.
