Hi everyone

I get asked all the time how to buy my albums online and I finally figured it out.

The easiest way is via mailorder. Go to paypal.com, and put money into the account under email address

In the notes section pop your mailing address and we will post it out to you.

Here are prices:

Our Swan Song LP, Eden Land LP: $30 AUD each including postage to anywhere.
2009 Tour EP: $15 AUD each including postage to anywhere.

There is a function on there to convert the currency if you are anywhere besides Australia.

Hope that clears things up!

Ahoy there,

Sorry about the lateness of this, the third Regular Jean. I am writing to you from Daylesford Library. I have been living in Daylesford for the last 6 months or so.

You might know Daylesford from the series of tourism ads starring Isobel Lucas.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdmDGVoxjIE

The extras playing locals are shown as peasants tilling the fields and stuff (that's me in the red headscarf picking mulberries). It would have been more realistic to show the locals tending the gardens to their bed and breakfast businesses or hippy single mums running down the street after half naked children with pixie hats, but it wouldn't have looked as good. And Isobel Lucas would more realistically be a personal assistant in her mid 50's on a hens weekend, but that wouldn't have looked that great either.

We're a visual bunch, us humans.

Hrmmmmmm. Things are slow here. Lots of room for thinking, pondering, and general thought making. Oh my God, I sound like Winnie The Pooh.

I haven't done much music in a while. It's times like these where you forget your identity as a 'musician' or 'songwriter' and you have to look at what's left... A silly girl that loves her friends and family, partner and dog. Could be worse eh?

I also love Christmas. It's embarrassing, but I'm shameless. Give me a carol by candlelight, the smell of a pine tree, and some tinsel and life couldn't get much better.

Singing carols is how I learnt to sing.. That reminds me.
At the end of year talent quest in year 6, my mate Kristy and I played (she on the clarinet, me on the tenor saxaphone) some hot renditions of some classic christmas hits, complete with santa hats for a bit of cheeky showmanship flair.

Of course the popular group won by MIMING 'Boom Shake Shake Shake The Room' by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. It was a travesty.

Later that December I was voted 'Nigel of The Year' as my final honour at primary school. It wasn't a good month. I was slightly comforted by the fact our school softened the blow by changing it from 'Nigel No Friends' (too politically incorrect) to an acronym -

Nutty
Intellegent
Gullible
Eager
Learner.

It's pretty funny now, and I'm quite proud to be honest.

Enjoy the scent of the pine, the cicadas, the blurry waves of heat rising from the ashphalt, wilting tinsel on plastic kmart trees, creepy dancing santas and muzak carols while you shop for last minute presents from Coles. 'Strayan Christmas.

Signing out from Daylesford Library HQ..

Yep, that was me covering 'The Power of Love' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood (NOT Huey Lewis and The News thank you very much) at the beginning of Channel 10's telemovie 'The Killing of Caroline Byrne' which aired on November 4th at 8:30pm.

I only covered the first half of the song... I will look in to getting copies for people that have requested it but no guarantees, not sure how it all works.

Dear All

Here I am again.

Well, with the first edition of this 'series' I got away with not knowing what to say alright, but I can't really do that on the second can I? I need to be a little more sure of myself, to instill confidence in you, fine reader.

No such luck.

Let us start at the very beginning.. a very good place to start (to quote Julie Andrews in 'The Sound Of Music'. The woman is a genius. I don't care if she didn't actually write that, she should get a Nobel Prize).

Jen and I have a puppy now. We picked him up 2 weeks ago. He was born in a place called Burrumbeet, about 20 minutes out of Ballarat. He spent the first 8 weeks of his life in a dog friendly mediterranean style house in the middle of a paddock with paintings on the walls and a true bohemian lady in her sixties called Ruth and her husband Joe who wears berets. He hung out with his Mum, Rosie, his eight brothers and sisters, his grandma, his aunties, his cousins. His Mum would catch rabbits for him and spew it up for him to eat. We know this because he vomited a weird rabbit alien in the car on the way home.

It was Jen's birthday yesterday, and we woke up to Samson (that's his name) vomiting up sticks and leaves, which is his version of fish and chips at the moment. He also enjoys a nice leafy branch kebab and lavender sprigs for dessert. For a palate cleanser he might have some grass, then he'll follow that up with a weed chaser.

He is the most beautiful dog in the world.

Ok, enough of that. What news?

There ain't none, to be perfectly honest. For those interested in a new album, be assured, it is coming, all the songs are written... but I am waiting until the time is ripe.
It is a very specific feeling, like catching a wave, you need to save your energy and then start kicking hard just before it breaks.

It's probably not a great analogy for me to use, as I spent the first seventeen years of my life in a coastal town in NSW being terrorized by surfers. At the beach I would be more likely found sitting in the shallows daydreaming and grabbing handfuls of sand to make spells by sprinkling it in the water rather than actually being active in the surf. Cute for being perhaps, six, but this was in my late teens.

Awkward.

Back to music. We are playing as a duo (Jen on drums, me on electric guitar) in Adelaide soon (November 13th at The Metro with Ned Collette) but apart from that probably won't play any gigs until next year.

We're going to pretend to be a normal family, yep, two ladies and a child covered in hair that looks like a labrador, until we stop taking our vitamin C tablets and the touring bug resurfaces in our bodies. In which case we will welcome it with weary arms and a secret smile. Sometimes it's fun being ill. ADMIT IT!

Love Laura

Hey All

I have decided to up my cyber commitment and write to you more regularily. I am going to call these scratchings/musings/rants 'Regular Jean'.

So. Here I go. My first edition. The pressure is killing me! Ok. Take a deep breath.

Hmmm.. The thing is when I think about what I actually think about, it disappears! Perhaps because when we turn the spotlight on our thoughts, they become a bit silly and embarrassing. And lets face it, we are contrary beasts, so of course as soon as one wants to put some of these thoughts down on paper (or screen rather) they instantly disappear and all one is left with is mocking blankness. ---------------------

This is fun innit.

Life is like a box of chocolates. You eat it, and realise that the thought of eating it is more exciting than actually eating it, and afterwards you feel slightly ill.

I wished I was Forrest Gump when I was a kid. I remember watching it at Avoca Beach cinema with my Mum, and when we came out I said quite precociously, "I am a bit like Forrest Gump, aren't I Mum". She just laughed and said "No". It hurt my feelings a bit, but she was right.

Mum was right about a lot of things. She was right when she said the music biz wouldn't be enough to keep me really satisfied. She was right when she said that just because I was a chubby dork in high school, it wouldn't necessarily stay like that forever.

I am now, of course, a 'skubby' dork. This is a word my wife Jen Sholakis and I made up for my body, and it applies to many other bodies, especially of the musician variety. It's basically skinny but flabby at the same time. Yeah so I feel pretty much the same as I did in high school, except skubby, and I am just more ok with it now.

I don't think anyone really changes deep down. I think we just get more ok with who we are as we get older. Or we never become ok with it and turn in to

Anyway. This has been my first edition of 'Regular Jean'. Next time it might be less weird and i'll talk about 'issues' or books I am reading or something.

Take care

Laura J

Hey All

We're hitting the road mid July on an east coast tour, please have a look at my gig list thing.

We're trying out our new stuff in trio format. I'll be on (pastel yellow) gibson SG electric guitar, Biddy on piano accordian, viola, and casio sk2, and Jen on drums and guitar. All on singing. Should be interesting for all of us.

We have put together a tour EP featuring

'Tonight' a cover of a Sybille Baier song with Ned Collette
'When I See You' a cover of a Kath Bloom song
'Eden Land (demo)' a demo of Eden Land (speaks for itself)
'Valenteen (Live at The Corner)' a live version of a song I am yet to record, but have had frequent questions about it.

It'll only be for sale at gigs! 10 bucks.

See ya soon

Hi Friends

This time of year is full on eh? Hope you are all having fun and not stressing too hard.

First things first.. Thank you to all those who made our November tour so
much fun. It was an old school wandering minstrel styled affair, with
friends and families as our hosts and like minded souls turning up to
shows with curious ears. Lo! It was goode. Thank you for making it so.
A special shout out to our hosts - we love you! Thanks for your amazing
hospitality. Photos are up on Jen Cloher's myspace and facebook.

For all those wanting to join our touring partner Jen Cloher and The Endless Sea's mailing list, simply visit http://www.jencloher.com
and add your email in the top right corner.

The Eden Land Band and I are playing at The Falls Festival in Lorne, in
case any of you will be there. We're on the main stage on the 29th at
2:00pm, and in the Arts Village on the 30th at about 2pm.

After that, it's looking a bit slim on the old gig front..
We do have a show at The Applecore Backyard Festival, held in our friends
backyard, on the 21st of February. It's in the inner suburbs of
Melbourne...
Also, we are supporting renowned English folkies Rachel
Unthank and The Winterset on their Australian tour in March. More info
on these shows closer to the date. I promise!

We are currently rehearsing and getting ready to record again. That's why we don't have heaps of gigs, you see. Not because we are unpopular or anything.

Ever wanted to see inside my flat? Thought not. Oh well, if anyone is
weirdly interested, Frankie Magazine did a photoshoot of my stuff and
me in my flat. It'll be out in late January.
http://www.frankie.com.au/

And another thing... All of us except Martin will be touring as Jen
Cloher's band 'The Endless Sea' supporting Mia Dyson through late February and March. Check out Mia or Jen's website for more info.

I helped Darren Hanlon produce a couple of new songs he has put on a 12 inch, I also play bass, sing backup vocals and do a James Brown scream on one of them. He is selling them on limited edition 12 inch vinyl. Check out
his website to order: http://www.darrenhanlon.com

I will probably email you again in late Jan about some other stuff.
Feel free to forward this on to anyone that might be interested.
Until then.... X

Laura

Hey Peeps

You may have noticed that I have posted tour dates. Jen Cloher and I are taking our bands up and down the East Coast of Australia. Yes, we share half a band, and I play in Jen's band.. but we promise to change outfits. I hope you can join us on this adventure. We are launching the first single, 'Hidden Hands' from Jen Cloher's new album, that I am producing along with Jen and her band The Endless Sea. It's sounding friggin EPIC! Can't wait for you to hear it.

Also, I should mention that The Eden Land Band and I are playing at Falls Festival in Lorne this year. Will post dates and times when I have them.
