We got a nice review today from RTE

In an age of more money and confidence, the novelty and wonder of a small Irish band staying together long enough to release an album belong not only to a different century but indeed a different country.

Dublin outfit Hey Paulette deserve a special mention, however, for releasing their debut - 16 years after they split up.

In the late 1980s they brightened up a few people's days with their English-indebted guitar pop; put out an EP and a 7"; appeared on some compilations; recorded a great Peel session and then conformed to the natural order of the era by splitting up.

All those stages are gathered together here on an album which shows that the years have been kind to their witty lyrics and clever hooks, and where every song is made even more bittersweet by the fact that people should've paid more attention to them in the first place.

The opening quartet of Peel tracks make the biggest impression but others like 'Another Poet', 'My Half of the Pillow' and 'Inconsequential' show that they didn't need to catch the ferry and make a trip to the BBC in London to get the best from their songs.

If this is a record that belongs to a more innocent and less cynical time then it's also one that has nothing to fear from today. And those who now have a lot more opportunities for their talents can learn a bit from it.

We got a top review from Indie Pages

Hey Paulette - "Long Ball Into Nowhere" cd (Firestation)
This band has been championed by both the label and Peter of Twee.net/Clarendon Records (who coreleased this disc) for so long (with Peter even including a song from them on the otherwise current indiepop compilation "Seven Summers" in 1998), that it's only natural that these fellows have created this collection of the band's material. Although Hey Paulette only got around to releasing a couple of singles (and recording a Peel Session) during their brief career in the late 80s/early 90s, the label has discovered a wealth of previously unavailable tunes and even a video of the band's classic single, "I Really Do Love Penelope". The music is naturally up to Firestation's usual standard: guitarpop with male vocals and an emphasis on the jangle and POP! There are countless instant classics (as well as a few old favorites) on here, including "Another Poet", "Give Up", "Our Immeasurable Differences" and of course, "I Really Do Love Penelope" (the latter two of which only appear here in Peel Session form, making this not 100% complete). Any fan of the late-80s British guitarpop sound will be simply thrilled with this disc...   MTQ=17/17

I (Derrick) played an impromptu solo set at the Remember This club night in The Drop Bar in Tokyo on the 30th September! We went to this all night club as it was around the corner from our friend Paul's flat in Kichijori. With the admittance fee you got a compilation cd for the night. Bizarrely there was a Hey Paulette track on it called 'Inconsewuential'!! The cd also contained many fine gems of indie obscureness.

Within ten minutes of arriving Hey Paulette was been played by the DJ's!     Then from nowhere four Hey Paulette 12 inches appeared from various people who were spinning records that night.  They insisted on me autographing them!  Then Toshiko from Apple Crumble records insisted that I played some songs solo before the main act, Sloppy Joe. While I was going round in a daze my friends were roaring laughing at the total madness of it all.

Thanks to Itaru & Toshiko from Rosemary Records.  A big thanks also to Sloppy Joe for giving us a lend of the lovely Gretsch.  Check out our photos!

There will be an interview published at some stage in Cookie Scene (Japanese magazine).

Here is another video of us doing My Half Of The Pillow on RTE TV in 1989. Check out the cardigan. We skipped work for the day to record this and some of us wore sunglasses to try and disguise it!

We are glad to say that our debut album 'Long Ball Into Nowhere' is on the way to the pressing plant and should be released soon. It will contain seventeen songs in total. Four of the songs are taken from our 'peachy' John Peel Session and the others have been remastered from our singles.

A big thanks goes to all of the gang at Fire Station Records for making this possible for us.

Hey Paulette make it to the digital era twenty years after C86!!
