FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

A series of special, one-time performances -- including a reunion of the original Amboy Dukes and a Motown 50th Anniversary Revue -- will highlight this year's 18th annual Detroit Music Awards (DMA), taking place at 7 p.m. on April 17th at the Fillmore Detroit.

The event, which honors both established and up-and-coming talent and achievements in the fertile Detroit and southeast Michigan music scene, will also include: tributes to the late Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton (featuring Scott Morgan & Powertrane and Hiawatha Bailey of the Cult Heroes) and to the late R&B and jazz legend Lyman Woodard (featuring Woodard's longtime guitarist Ron English and Chris Codish on organ); Detroit rockers Bump with special guests Liz Larin, Barbara Payton and Janice Franco; rapper Mae Ray; and the teen bluegrass group Cats & the Fiddler.

The Deaf Performing Artists Network (D-PAN), recipients of this year's DMA Special Achievement Award, will stage a special performance for the hearing impaired.

The original Amboy Dukes lineup, which is receiving a Distinguished Achievement Award, will take the stage together for the first time in 30 years, recalling a mid- and late-60s run as leaders of the burgeoning Detroit music scene, including the hits "Journey to the Center of the Mind" and "Baby Please Don't Go."

The Motown 50th Anniversary Revue will feature many of the legendary label's stars who are still based in the Detroit area, paying tribute to the golden anniversary of the record company Berry Gordy, Jr., turned into The Sound of Young America from modest beginnings on West Grand Boulevard.

For the third year in a row, the DMAs will be hosted by MC Serch of 3rd Bass and head of Serchlite Music.

Awards will be presented in four national and 65 local categories at this year's DMAs, ranging from Rock and Rap to Gospel and Classical. The awards are voted on by more than 3,000 music industry professionals in the Metro Detroit area.

Some of the awards will be presented during a pre-show ceremony at 5 p.m. April 17th at Cliff Bell's, 2030 Park Avenue, around the corner from the Fillmore. Official after-parties will be held at Cliff Bell's and the Park Bar, 2040 Park Ave.

Renowned Detroit artist Mark Arminski will be creating the poster for this year's event.

Sponsors for the 2009 DMAs include: Fender Premium Audio Systems: Powered by Panasonic, Made in Detroit; Diane Passage; Mack Avenue Records; MotorCity Casino; the Detroit International Jazz Festival; Magic Hat Brewing Company; Showtime Clothing; The Night Move (Metro Detroit's Green Public Transit); and Great Lakes Beverage Company along with numerous media partners.

Tickets for this year's DMAs are priced $20 and are available via www.livenation.com and at the Fillmore Detroit box office. Main floor VIP tables for 10 are available for $1,000 and include valet parking passes. Main floor tables for four are available for $200 and $100.

Lobby tables are available for companies for $500, subject to product approval. Please contact Terri Koggenhop at immunitymgt@hotmail.com or (248) 360-2455 to purchase any VIP or product tables.

Media may contact Matt Lee for Drumbeaters at: (248) 931-2443.

PHASE ONE OF VOTING FOR THE 2009 DETROIT MUSIC AWARDS HAS BEGUN!

OUR WEBSITE IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION BUT WE ARE READY TO TAKE SUBMISSIONS AND REGISTER NEW MEMBERS TO VOTE!

PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES BELOW AND THEN GO TO OUR NEW WEBSITE -

www.detroitmusicawards.net

to submit candidates for the 2009 AWARDS SHOW - TO BE HELD ON FRIDAY, APRIL 17TH AT THE FILLMORE DETROIT!!!

PHASE I

The submission phase is designed to build a list of choices to assist current (or newly registered) Detroit Music Awards voters when filling out the online Nomination Ballot during PHASE II of the online voting process. Anyone can enter the names of all eligible recordings, artists, bands, etc. to be considered as possible choices within a field when using the online Nomination Ballot during PHASE II. These submissions will be available as suggestions during nominations, but in no way will voters choices be limited to submitted names.

Registration is not required to add names and recordings during the Submission Phase; you are allowed to enter as many names and recordings as you like at any time during the Submission Phase.

Submitting names or recordings during this phase does NOT nominate the Artist, Group or Recording for the Final Ballot.

Names eligible to be considered as choices must have a connection, or perform a body of work, primarily in the Detroit metro area, which, for our purposes, stretches as far north as Flint, as far west as metropolitan Ann Arbor, as far south as the Ohio border, and as far east as the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair.

Recordings eligible for the 2009 Detroit Music Awards to be considered as choices must have been released between December 1, 2007 and November 30, 2008. Recordings need to be available for purchase to the public via gigs, internet sales and record stores between those dates.

Hi, All~

Many of you have been emailing to inquire about voting for the 2009 awards.  We are respectfully asking everyone to sit tight for just a few more days until we get a technical glitch or two (or five) worked out - we are re-launching our website to make the voting process more user-friendly AND... well, it's obviously taking a little bit longer than anticipated.

OPEN SUBMISSIONS will begin NEXT WEEK - this is Phase ONE of the 3-step voting process, in which everyone, regardless of whether they are members of the Motor City Music Foundation or not, can submit candidates for awards.  THE NEW WEBSITE ADDRESS WILL BE WWW.DETROITMUSICAWARDS.NET

Thanks for your patience and GET READY to SUBMIT your nominations next week!!!

AND... when you visit the site to submit next week - PLEASE register to vote for Phases 2 & 3 - you will NOT be able to vote unless you are a confirmed/registered member!!!

FINALLY - we've got some really special surprises lined up for the show this year - so please mark FRIDAY APRIL 17th on your calendars!!!
