Hey folks. Just wanted to fill everybody in on what's been going on with us here at HGWT-HQ. Check out some of the early press our new record Postcards from the Friendly City has been getting. Read Creative Loafing's review of the album here. Also, Wade Tatangelo at Metromix featured a Q&A about the new release. And we got a pretty good write-up at NoDepression.com. Click here to watch HGWT perform 2 songs from Postcards... on Tampa Bay's Studio 10 morning show. Go to TBOExtra.com to hear an interview with Matt and an intimate performance of "Rosie: A Belated Requiem" from Postcards... We're currenly working out some details regarding the distribution of the new release. In the meantime, PayPal users can order the CD directly from our MySpace profile.

Our full-length debut Casting Shadows Tall As Giants is the #20 most added record this week on the CMJ radio charts! And the ONLY self-released album on the chart, I might add. So call up your local college station and request some HGWT! Peace out.

Creative Loafing, Best of the Bay 2007
Critics' Picks BEST NEW BAND: Have Gun, Will Travel
Matt Burke taught himself banjo, harmonica and clandestinely composed alt-country tunes in between gigs with his indie rock band, The Chase Theory, one of the few acts in the region to appear on Deep Elm Records' nationally acclaimed Emo Diaries. Under the moniker Have Gun, Will Travel, Burke then quietly issued his acoustic solo debut EP in May of 2006. His hometown newspapers, including Weekly Planet Sarasota, immediately declared the disc a major achievement. Local praise soon led to some national acclaim, with the former emo notable earning a favorable review in American Songwriter. Burke has spent 2007 growing Have Gun from a solo to ensemble project. He enlisted his Chase Theory bandmates, bassist Danny Burke (Matt's younger bro') and drummer JP Beaubien, along with lap steel player Scott Anderson, lead guitarist Nate Oliver and fiddler Josh Hernandez. The current lineup has wowed Tampa Bay audiences in recent months with buzz-making performances at high-profile events like this year's Americana Fest at Skipper's Smokehouse. The band plans to have its first full-length finished by the time this issue hits the streets.

HGWT is currently featured in the Under the Radar section of American Songwriter Magazine! Here's what they had to say about HGWT's self-titled EP...
Have Gun, Will Travel's self-titled EP is a testament to the fact that you don't need ostentatious artwork or $25,000 production to make it into the Under the Radar; all you need is good songs. Coming in a cardboard disc box with no track list and employing what is probably third rate production, all is forgotten because the songs stand out superior. A mix between Neil Young, Elliott Smith and Whiskeytown, Florida's Have Gun, Will Travel keeps it acoustic for the most part, treading through an indie / alt-country sound that isn't entirely unfamiliar. On the last song, vocalit M. Burke sings, "If I was a toy surprise inside that Cracker Jack box/ Maybe you'd appreciate me more." I like it just the way it is. Evan James - American Songwriter
