It is finished. Barry Poynter will be mastering the thing over the next week or so. Looks like an April release.
We are proud of this one and have even made plans to practice for the CD release show(s).
Seacrest out.

Dear Hungry Masses,
The new Kevin Kerby + Battery album, Beautiful and Bright, will be completely in the can by no later than Sunday of this weekend. Would have been sooner but Marcus Lowe (drummer, engineer, all around good man) came down with a mystery illness and had to make a quit stop over to the E.R. and have his spine tapped.
We have one bass part to record, and one backing vocal track to construct/deconstruct. We thank you for being so patient (most of you) and would like to now share the song order with you.
1. Beautiful & Bright 2. You & Your Chemical Smile 3. Last Word on a Situation 4. Cast It All Aside 5. Untrue Juggernaut 6. Soon To Be Replaced 7. Dip It In Shellac 8. The Great Swimming Pool Debate 9. Fallback Crutch 10. The Devil Is Real & He Is Everywhere
Thanks again guys. We won't let you down.

Thought maybe some of you would like an update on the new record. Songs have been selected and more than half have been recorded. Should make it back to Lowefi Farm this week to finish basic tracks. Then it's off to Tusk of Jaguar Studio to do vocals and sprinkle a bit of fairy dust on the bastard (as the Troggs would say).
The songs sound great. More rock this time thanks to the addition of, well, more rockers to the band.
I think I'll carve a pumpkin tonight.
Look for a mid-winter to early spring release.

Pete Jones and the City Slickers.
Yes, the rumors are true (is it a rumor if you hear right from the person the rumors are reported to be about?), One Mr. Pete Jones is leaving Little Rock for the grayer sidewalks of New York City, NY.
It strikes me as funny that most people head for bigger cities for more opportunities and get better paying jobs. Pete came home from New York and they offered him a better paying job with more opportunities. So take that.
I am more than a bit sad to see Pete go and will not try to replace him in the Battery camp. I will, however wish him luck in the Big Apple (don't mind the maggots).
I just thought of something; without Mr. Jones on keyboard Battery is now officially a "guitar-rock band." Jesus, I gotta learn how to play guitar now. Thanks a lot Pete.

Sorry for the length of time between communications (don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, evereverever buy a DELL XPS 200. They are complete shit). Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I'm back people. In grand style.
The band (the name remains Battery thanks to a pep talk from Matt Quinn) and I have been hitting it pretty hard (two practices in three weeks, yes you read that right) out at Marcus Lowe's farm. If you have not been out there to record, or feed the goats, or just to take in the swamp air then it is your loss and you should feel like an ass.
We are currently working on shows between babies' needs and Razorback games. Recording should begin soon for the new record. Should be more rock(ish) than the last one. Not better or worse, just more.
All for now, just wanted to let you know that we are alive and sort of kicking.

I have to admit that I have been extremely lazy this year when it has come to rocking out full-band style. I'm sure that the boys in the band can back me up on this one (I just re-read this sentence, and it is awesome). I have just been busy trying not to kill the new little one in our house. And then there was the Mulehead reunion show. And then I went to Disney World... The excuses flow like wine (or whine) when I really get going.
I haven't been too lazy to write songs. I have an orange middle school-type folder full of new numbers that I typed out on an antique typewriter, excuse me while I push up my horn-rimmed specs, and I have been playing said songs by myself. We even worked a couple up when the weather was colder and they sounded pretty great, but I just haven't made the time to devote to the boys.
I do feel kind of bad (KIND of bad). They all seem so willing to help, and Pete Jones has played one show with us. He seems ready to play more, but their fearless leader has let them down.
Well, I guess I don't really have a point except that I will try and get m# shit together before too long and start working on all things Battery. That's another thing. I think we should change the name of the band. It turns out there is a Metallica tribute band witht that name. I think Lars(z) should sue them and then talk about it nonstop (listen close, you can hear Cliff Burton spinning in his grave).
Maybe we should have a contest to rename the band (I almost wrote "remane" and that would be awesome too).
Anyway, just talking. Send your band name suggestions here.
Thanks a latte for esspressing your concerns.

Well, well, etc. It was a pretty busy weekend for the Battery boys. As in, we actually played a show. For those of you who didn't make it out of your houses to come see that show: you are not forgiven, it is not okay.
Here's what you missed. Pete Jones played his first show as a Battery member. As far as I know, it was also his first show as a keyboard player. He did a fine job and turned off and on a Leslie cabinet. If you don't understand that last statement, congratulations, you are not a music nerd/snob. Be glad.
We opened the show for Josh Bentley's buddy Mic Harison from the great city of Knoxville, TN. I knew it was going to be a good show when they pulled up outside the WWT and stepped out of their van, beer in hand. Mic kepped mentioning how bad the carpet burn between his eyes hurt. Now that was a party.
Anyway, if you were there, thanks for coming, and you know that it was a fun show. If you weren't there, these moments don't come back and you missed it, and that is all. Hope you got some sleep or whatever.

While visiting my family over Christmas, my dad took my son Gus and me to the Allen Bowl. This is the bowling alley in the formerly small town in Texas where I attended, and eventually graduated from, high school. Not much has changed. I remember a friend's band once played there. I remember thinking that it was the greatest thing that had ever happened, and that she had bigger balls than any of us to even play a rock show at the age of 16 (I think that's how old she was, she might have been younger) much less play said rock show in a hotbed of red neck activity. She still has bigger balls than all of us, and the Pixie's logo tattooed on her shoulder to prove it (when I say shoulder, I don't mean shoulder blade area. I mean where your drunk uncle would get Woody Woodpecker tattooed if he had the money... and two arms). It still smelled the same. Cigarrette covered nachos. I still thought about leaving with my bowling shoes on. Although, I've never had big enough balls to do it (see above paragraph). Somehow, the employees at the Allen Bowl have figured out the mystery of time travel. Unfortunately, or, fortunately, depending on your outlook, the time machine is only big enough to work on the radio that pipes music through Pioneer speakers while you bowl. At one point, Gus picked up his 6-pound ball, rolled a strike, and then asked if the music that was on was AC/DC. It was. I then asked him what song it was and he answered "Thunder Struck." It was. If the Allen Bowl had a shower, I would move in. I'm only saying this to save face. My house has a shower, and I don't use it all that much.

Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
Maybe I'm getting old. Maybe it's the fact that my best friend's mom passed away recently. Maybe it's the warm comfort I get from my wife and two babies. Most likely it's a combo platter of these things, but something is telling me that it's time to slow down.
Now, I've never been super-wild, (I guess that depends on who you're asking) but a drunk 37-year-old is nowhere near as fun/cute as a drunk 18 to 24-year-old. And it's sure not cute for a daddy to be out until all hours of the night stripping away the next day's parenting skills one drink at a time. But, I digress...
After a lifetime of being right in the middle of one music scene or another (as fan or musician) I have come to the conclusion that this whole game is more than a little silly. 20 years of shoving original music down people's throats when all they really wanna hear is a cover or a watered-down knock-off of said cover can make a person tired.
I don't regret my choice. I wouldn't have it any other way. Given the choice over I would still choose passion over money everytime (I hope). I'm just saying it sure took a long time to realize what the people around me have known for years.
To the handful of people who care: Don't worry, I'm still gonna write songs and make records. I still enjoy the game, I'm just not worried one ounce about winning it. Come to think of it, if you are not willing to do whatever it takes to win (where certain clothes, shake certain hands, sing certain songs) you will never ever win. But, maybe the only way to beat them is to never play in the first place.
