Hey there everybody

I hope all is well in everyone’s world.  All is good here these days.  The Watchmen have a few new tracks recorded,The Variety Show Players are performing and going into the studio in October and I am heading out withThornley for another show in a few weeks.  Busy as always, here is the extended version…

The Watchmen:

New Songs available for download

In the spring we decided to go into Joey’s studio and lay some beds for a few tracks just to see how things would unfold.  We were pleasantly reminded of how much we enjoyed creating new music and in the end came up with two new tracks that are now available for download at www.the-watchmen.com

Don’t forget the Horseshoe shows this weekend.  They are just a few tickets away from sell out on both nights, so if you are planning on getting tickets at the door you may be out of luck.  Visit ticketmaser and grab your tix…

The Variety Show Players:

Live CD – Live from the Acoustic Grill

Last January we played a show at the Acoustic Grill in Picton.  Steve and the gang down there have started a live concert cd series and have decided to include the Variety Show Players and our performance from that evening. We are very excited to be having a cd release for this at the beginning of October.

We have been working hard at the new material and things are really coming together.  We head in to the studio in October to begin tracking the new tunes.  More to come on these songs later.  In the meanwhile, we are doing some shows around Ontario.

Friday October 2nd – The Acoustic Grill  Picton (reservation only)

Thursday October 8th – The Red Dog – Peterborough

Friday, October 30th – The Masonic Hall – Campbellford (Elite Guitars Halloween Bash)

Friday November 6th – Maxwell’s Music House – Waterloo

Saturday November 7th – The Corktown – Hamilton

Thursday November 19th – TBA Montreal

Friday, December 11th – Mavericks - Ottawa

As always, stay well and I look forward to seeing you on the road…

Songs of War and Peace June 27, 2009 Westben - The Barn 7:00pm Two years ago we started out with "The 70's Show" and raised money for Song For Africa. And it was amazing. Last year we changed it up a bit with "Canada Onstage" and raised money for Spread The Net. And again it was fantastic. Well year three is here and we are going to do it all again. This years theme is "Songs Of War and Peace." Once more we hope to contribute to a global cause by raising money for the Military Families Fund. Tomorrow night twenty local bands will take the stage at Westben for another wonderful night of music.

Well Spring is finally here and with it comes more and more busy days ahead for me and my respective bands.  Last night, I celebrated my birthday with an intimate local show and a new version of the Variety Show Players.  This new 5-piece lineup adds a bit more country and a bunch more rock to my solo stuff. More on this to come in the next few months…. Stay tuned…

The Watchmen, (we thought we were only getting together for a few reunion shows), seem to have more and more bookings every time I open my e-mail. We are careful to try and maintain a special feel to these shows and we are not officially touring, but instead doing select one-offs here and there.  There has been a great response to these shows and many requests to come and play “your town” are coming in and being discussed between us in the band.  We hope over time to get to all our favorite towns and venues.

Things in the Thornley camp could not be better.  “Tiny Pictures” is officially out and “Make Believe” is getting lots of radio play.  Keep your ears out for a new single shortly.  The response to the new music in a live setting has been spectacular.  The Phoenix show in Toronto was so far a highlight for me, but there are more shows regularly so I hope to top it any night now.  A lot of people have been asking me how is it different being back with Thornley after a few years away.  Well, it really is much the same.  E.P. is a much different drummer than Sekou and Benti and Tavis are worlds apart as guitarists.  This makes for a different, but still monstrously powerful sound that makes me glad to strap on the bass. All in all, I could not be happier to walk on stage with this group of guys and sweat out a loud set of music.

I have recently started using Traynor amps for my backline with both the Watchmen and Thornley and this new rig is pretty magnificent.  The combination of the new Dyna-Bass 800 head with the TC810 cab are rocking my world.  More info for you gear heads here… http://ktizzard.wordpress.com

Below are some dates for the summer.  I will be traveling for two months with the family across Eastern Canada and down through the States.  I have not yet decided if I am going to do any solo shows, perhaps a few in the Maritimes, but I really want to focus on finishing writing for the next record planned for the coming winter.

The Variety Show Players recently recorded a live show at the Acoustic Grillin Picton.  This is being mixed currently and will be released in the near future as an installment of the Live From The Acoustic Grill series.  More on this to come as well…

So it is Friday night and I am sitting on the couch eating an Easter Cream Egg and watching Space Buddies with my daughter. I will no doubt head down to the pub for a pint before bed but right now this seems perfect.

I have been getting a lot of e-mail regarding upcoming shows. Perhaps it is a holdover from the Watchmen days but there is something about the January through March months which just seem to say "Stay home and write." And for the most part this is what I am doing. Aside from shows with Thornley and perhaps a Watchmen appearance or two I am not too active on the live performances. That being said keep and eye on the website for solo dates and evenings with the Variety Show Players.

This past week was exciting. The new Thornley cd 'Tiny Pictures" hit the stores and people are raving about the new tunes and as well the unbelievable cd artwork. Storm Thorgerson did another amazing job and the cd itself is a "must see." ie. download if you must but buy the cd to check out the entire package.

The past weekend we flew to vancouver for an acoustic show featuring some new and old Thornley. We played Friday at the Roxy and there are some video clips from the show on Youtube. Exciting for me as I got to play the Banjo for most of the one hour acoustic set.

On Saturday we ripped through a rocking set in the winter cool night of Surrey at Winterfest.

Lots of fun and great to be out of the serious cold of Ontario for a bit.

Last night I drove in to Toronto so that I could be up bright and early today to head over with Ian and Benti to do the morning show with Dean Blundell on the Edge. Great to see the old gang there. Some things just never change. We played two acoustic songs and you can check these out vie and Podcasts at:

I hope everybody is doing well. Things at the Tizzard camp have finally settled enough for some writing and the new music is quite different and exciting. I just wanted to drop a line to say that although quiet from touring, the grind behind the scenes is still busy and there are a few things worth mentioning…

The www.kentizzard.com website has recently been revamped. There are now sections for the Watchmen, Thornley, The Variety Show Players and others. The new music section includes some MP3 downloads that have not been available before, as well as a few treats for those of you who have been around for a while.

Ken Tizzard now blogging… well I will not be reporting the daily meanderings of my life, but it is a good place for news and new developments. Check out the Variety Times at: http://ktizzard.wordpress.com/

There is talk of more concerts with the Watchmen on the horizon so keep your eyes out for shows in your area this coming spring and summer. To keep up with Watchmen evens check in at:

As well all upcoming events that I am involved with can be found on my website…

There is a lot of excitement for the new Thornley record that is slated for release on February 10th. The new album is titled “Tiny Pictures” and sounds unbelievable. I am happy to say that I will be doing a few dates here and there for this record and it all starts next week with WinterFest in Surrey, BC. More information here… www.thornleyband.com
You can drop by here and have a listen to the new single "Makebelieve".

Check out this month’s Canadian Musician magazine if you have a minute…

Well that is all for now. See you on the road sometime and keep in touch until then...
