Tune in to BBC 6Music tonight from 6pm to 9pm GMT to hear Fantasy Funk Band on The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show.

Listeners voted for their favourite living British player on each instrument. The elected musicians got together yesterday at the BBC's legendary Maida Vale Studios to record a selection of classic tunes - here's the lineup:

Eddie Roberts - guitar, arranger, MD

James Taylor - Hammond organ and piano

Ernie McKone - bass guitar

Mike Bandoni - drums

Snowboy - percussion

Dionne Charles - vocals

John Turrell - vocals

The Haggis Horns:

Jim Corry - saxes, Atholl Ransome - saxes, Malcolm Strachan - trumpet

Eddie will be with Craig for the first hour of the show to talk about the session.  You can listen live in the UK on DAB, or online.

Feels like it's been awhile since we've been in the US. We're glad to be heading back starting 11/4 in Charlottesville, VA at the Outback Lodge. From there we'll be hitting some of our favorite spots including the Bowery Ballroom in NY, The 8x10 in MD and the Bear Creek Music Festival. Check out our tour dates page for a complete listing and tour updates.

The New Mastersounds are pleased to announce our Ten Years On Japan tour 2010 in association with Smash and P-Vine Records. The band will be playing all of Japan's hot spots:

Wed 20th Jan - Nagoya, Club Quattro
Thu 21st Jan - Osaka, Club Quattro
Sat 23rd & Sun 24th Jan - Tokyo, Club Quattro

This time we're taking our friend Chip Wickham on sax and flute, who also appears on the 'Chocolate Chip' single, just released. See the Ten Years On album info below.

Ten Years On presents an impressive range of grooves and styles, all sheltering from the grey English drizzle under a big jazz-funk umbrella. There’s the familiar vintage-sounding production, courtesy of guitarist and bandleader Eddie Roberts. The core of the band is the same as on 2008’s Plug & Play, with Simon Allen on drums, Pete Shand on Fender P-bass, and Joe Tatton on organ, piano and various other vintage keyboards.

The album has guests aplenty, some of them sending in their performances by email from distant shores. The CD version features a very special bonus track with Grace Potter. Nothing But the Water (II) is an NMS arrangement of one of Grace’s own original tunes. Other guests include JD73, Skerik, Sam Bell and Chip Wickham. It’s funky as hell and available exclusively as a digital download 11/2 or at our live shows starting 11/4.

After a long awaited holiday and a tour of Spain The New Mastersounds are making our way back to the US for the last leg of our Summer tour. We'll be kicking off at the 10th annual moe.down in Turin, NY on 9/4 into a 3 hour late night set at Equifunk with The Radiators in PA on 9/5. From there we'll hop on the private NMS jet to Bumbershoot in Seattle. Since we've acquired this jet we're going to wrap up the tour by hitting IC Yacht Club in IA and Miramar Theatre in WI then onto Harvest Fest in MN and Trinumeral Fest in NC. Ok really, we don't have a private jet but we wish we did for this run!

The New Mastersounds are pleased to announce our triumphant return to the East coast in November. We'll be hitting some of our favorite spots including the Bowery Ballroom in NY, The 8x10 in MD and the Bear Creek Music Festival. Check out our tour dates page for a complete listing and tour updates.

The New Mastersounds are pleased to be part of the original HBO documentary "The Nine Lives of Marion Barry" airing Monday Aug 10th at 9pm/7pm CST. Our music is featured throughout the movie.

A synopsis:

To many, Marion Barry is remembered as the philandering drug-addled mayor of the nation's capital. To others, Marion Barry is a folk hero. Hailed as a civil rights champion and defender of the poor, his soaring achievements, catastrophic failures and phoenix-like rebirths have made him a symbol of mythic indestructibility. Today, to the dismay of some and the delight of others, Barry is once again in the political limelight.

Ten years on, and we're still in the 'and many more' category in festival advertising.  Maybe we should change the name of the band to "And Many More".  But what happens if/when we eventually make top billing?  The posters would have to say:  "And Many More... and many more", which would be a bit silly.  Like calling your band 'Special Guests' or 'Plus Support'.
