So.....I felt the need to write, unable to sleep due to overwhelming excitement!!!!!! First let me say congrats to my people - this is a very big one for the team! So historical, and means so much!!!! I dare not underplay the fact that a majority of my excitement is due to the fact that Barack Obama is the first African-American president and that I have been able to witness this in my lifetime. I am elated for my brothers, as the world gets to see a prime example of the strength, intelligence, and royalty that we as people have always known. And last but not least, I am proud of America for getting past race, and religion, ignorance, judgement, and fear of the unknown to stand up for the real issues that effect us all. Our voices have been heard and it's so amazing to witness.
I watched the young people at the polls in all of their pride as many voted for the first time, knowing the magnitude of this cause and I watched the elders who have seen so much more that words can tell, as they took it all in, most giving graceful head nods to the young ones, that spoke volumes as if saying "well done"! So many moments today nearly brought me to tears. It's unbelievable and believable all in the same breath!
Tonight, while votes were still being counted, I watched the large projector screen on 125th street in Harlem amongst thousands of my people, every color, as CNN announced our president -Elect and within moments, after screams and tears and heavy emotion, the DJ (yes, we had a DJ - you already know) played "Ain't No Stopping Us Now". We danced for everyone who could not be here physically to witness this, we danced for generations to come who will never again be skeptical about a Black man as leader of the highest position in this land and we danced for the moment. My mom gripped my hand and we high-fived and hugged strangers and danced some more. There were drums and dancers and internal heartbeats which rang out loud from being so overwhelming proud and happy!
I am so proud of this moment - and I hope that from now - until we will be accountable for or actions, and reactions. Choose or words, wisely and treat doubt like the enemy. Be present in this moment knowing that anything and all things are possible.
Lastly, I have to speak on the new first family. They represent me as they do you, but I smile hard at the notion that not only will America get to witness a black man as head ranking leader, but they also get to witness Black Love at it's finest. It's a beautiful thing to see, on such a broad scale and it's not make believe "Huxtable's" kinda love (lol) It is real and in living color, literally, and can not be denied!!!!!
Nor can this moment.
I pray for President Barack Obama and the first family, and for our nation - that we may be steadfast participants of this next movement. I pray his strength, I pray guidance and wisdom from the creator that leads the leader and us all.
and with that said - let's paint the White house Brown baby - IT'S OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL!!!!!!
BROTHERS STAND UP!

"Let's support this beautiful leader to do the work necessary to promote and execute on the change agenda we all voted for. Let's each do our part to insure that this is a transformative time in America, where our country can be a leader in creating a positive and lasting change in the world."
-Russell Simmons
