The first single from the new record, "Breathing Under Water", is the theme song for the show, "Gone Too Far". It starts airing Monday night and from what I've seen it's really heavy. The song will be available soon as a free download through MTV.com and in a couple of weeks, available to buy through iTunes and other digital outlets. cheers.

In licensing news.........what may well be the first single, "Fireworks Explode", off of the terribly belated first release from Theft, is now the theme song to my new favorite show. It's called "It's On with Alexa Chung"  Yes it's on MTV but give the show a chance.  It's hosted by Brit transplant Alexa Chung, who is fantastic and the show is a talk show type format incorporating Facebook and Twitter. Kind of a cool idea.  It premiered today and it was total trip hearing different edits of the song play in the main title as well as in every break.  All this before the record is even finished mastering.  Hoping to have the song available, with a remix, up on itunes very soon.  I'm very pleased to say the least.  Hope all is well with you.

well it has been a while but i have new news.
the little ep that could is now in the final steps of becoming a full length.  i am back in the studio with producer, dwayne larring in his van nuys, staggg sound recorders, putting the finishing touches on the final four songs. meanwhile, my good friend, bryan cook is taking his early swings at the mixes.  looking forward to mix tweaks soon.  i've also done 2 photo shoots with photographer joseph llanes. one here in l.a. and one in new york.  we're busy sifting through a pile of photos including what will be the cover art for the record.  interest looms in putting out the record and tv and film are starting to hover for licensing.  lots of good stuff on the horizon. next step is getting the live thing up and running.  cant wait to play these songs live with a full a band.  no more acoustic shows for long while. unless bono calls.

cheers,

Last night was spent going over the last bits with mastering guru, Mark Chalecki out in Eagle Rock.
It would appear as if the album is done. Now it's time for artwork, website overhauls, photography, press mailings, etc....... and maybe it would be good to start playing out again. We'll see.
Lots of good stuff in the hopper but the record will stay under raps until all the cannons are lined up on the deck. Thanks for all the support over the past few months. Namely, Mr. Dwayne Larring for taking my little home recordings and helping to make them what I couldn't make them alone.

See you all soon,

Friends near and far,
Here's the latest on the album front. We are very close.
5 songs have been mixed and we are finishing up vocals on the 6th track called "stars".
I'm also going to be releasing a free download of my version of the Ride classic, "Vapor Trail" and will be joined duet style, by the lovely and talented Jamie Drake on vocals. She came out and tracked vocals last night and it's coming along quite well. I had done an earlier demo of the song and the arrangement has been given an overhaul by my friend Ryan Tallent. I can't wait for you all to hear it.
So we have a final mix day with Mr. Bryan Cook in one week, (he's currently in the UK doing a session with Nigel Godrich) and then to mastering on September 3rd. I might just have a record yet. Then the work of getting this monster out into the world begins. Thank you for your patience as always. I'm trying to get everything just right so it's going to be a little while longer but i assure you, it will be worth the wait. The debut Theft EP is on its way.

first, let me say thanks to all of you who have stuck it out with me on this long journey. this blog is to keep the hope alive for a little bit longer. myself and my friend and producer d. larring have officially finished week two of tracking on the forthcoming theft ep. we have instrumental tracks on 6 songs and i have finished writing a seventh that i want to be on this record. we have a slew of vocals and this new track left to do and we are carving out time to make it happen as we speak.
i have committed to going this route of recording the record because i want you guys to have the very best version of these songs. it was becoming clear that i was too close to the material to to do them justice on my own and needed an extra pair of hands for the heavy lifting.
thanks again for your continued patience.

see you soon,

This week marks the beginning of the recording of the long discussed 1st theft record. I have officially enrolled producer Dwayne Larring into the theft camp to help me dig through 2 years of demos. I feel for him.
We have basic tracks for six songs in the can. As well as guitars on 3-4 songs. Drummer Aaron Sterling and bass player Ryan Tallent dropped by to lend their their gifts for pocket change and a bean burrito from Rudy’s taco truck. The sound of the album is beginning to take shape and I couldn’t be more excited to finally get these songs laid down as I always heard them in my head. Probably better. Thanks to everyone who has stuck with me this far. I won’t let you down.

Best,
Matt

hello my darlings.
a couple of weeks ago, our friends at mtv used a special *acoustic* version of "seeing stars" which a song that will be on the forthcoming theft record (if i ever finish it) i recieved some mail that the song couldn't be heard or people weren't sure what scene it was in. well, we have some things to make that easier for you. i'm going to give you all the info here........... the show is called "newport harbor" and the song is playing in a hot tub scene between clay and chrissy. (oh what this high art has been reduced to) anyway, the shows on wed night at 10:30 on mtv. drop by and see what a theft song sounds like while two rich o.c. kids hang out in a hot tub.
