In no real order.. some music to get your teeth into this week........finalising the best of 2009 too, although it seems unfair on all the December releases...will maybe do a couple of versions.....

12's

Shackleton -  3EP (Perlon)

Bloody hell that's good. reduced and infectious.

Clouds - Spat (Channel Zero)

Beautiful ear-soothe from Clouds...in no hurry.....

Rick Wilhite - The Godson EP (Rushhour)

Beautiful old Detroit house reissue....Moodymann turns in a mix too...

Fourtet - Love Cry (Domino)

Sneakily unlabelled wee groover from Fourtet with a bell waterfall apocalypse on the B side....in a good way...

Unknown - Seldom Felt 6 (Seldom Felt)

By far and away my favourite Seldom Felt so far. simple simple 909 and strings on the A side is just magic....

Function - Disaffected Remixes (Sandwell District)

Hard concrete techno from the Berghain hall of fame....

Ghosts On Tape - Predator Mode (Wireblock)

Boomkat are going mental for the Roska mix but it's the originals that are getting to me....specially Straight From Cassette ....I'm throwing shapes here!

Al Tourettes - Dodgem (Applepips)

This is fucking dub-pishing-tech-wonk-spaz-plastic. bastards.

The Parallel - The Parallel EP (Komisch)

The 909 is most certainly back. A cracking EP of what can only be described as good ol'  techno.

LPS

Hudson Mohawke - Butter (Warp)

Ultra-dayglo 80's wonkfest. tremendous.

Mathias Aguayo - Ay Ay Ay (Kompakt)

Perfect, poppy, voice-inflected mesmeric house.....

2562 - Unbalance (Tectonic)

Really excellent album full of texture and depth,  clothing it's dubstep skeleton with touches of Drexciya and Detroit....

Another wee chart for you.....current crackers...

Joy Orbison - Hyph Mngo (Hot Flush)

Happy feelgood brilliance...synthy....

Robert Hood - Obey (M-Plant)

Straight as a die. An offset to all that wonky goodness that's overrunning me just now.."Resurrection" is the one.....

Kode 9/Flying Lotus - Hyperdub 5.1 (Hyperdub)

Number one of Hyperdub's 5th year celebration series...great stuff, particularly Kode9's one, but there's 3 more EPs with loads of quality out too....

Blackdown - Concrete Streets (Zomby Remix) (Keysound)

Aqueous wobble beats from Zomby. Glub Glub....

Ben Klock - One Remixes (Ostgut)

Function and Regis turn in the best effort here....studied, understated and spacious...

Rustie - Bad Science (Wireblock)

The opposite! Ultra-wonky soundwhack ....Bad Science is the bigun. Shiny.

Samuli Kemppi - Metal Space  (Komisch)

Nice for the floor, kept simple and effective....

Hell - The DJ (Radio Slave Remix) (Gigolo)

Big big in every way....a tough vocal to put in it's place, but RS knows how it works....great stuff...

Roof Light  - In Your Hands (Styrax)

Much more of a dubstep flavour from Styrax here, and a lovely use of vocals to keep it engaging. Really like this....

VHS Head - Video Club (Skam)

Skam are back it seems!  excellent cut and shut beats from someone's vinyl vault.....

By no means exhaustive, there's a load of great music I've failed to flag in the last few months, but here's a current snapshot of the good shit.....

12s

Zomby - One Foot Ahead Of  The Other (Ramp)

Totally ridiculous EP doublepack from Zomby.....producer of one of my favourite EPs of the year already (the Hyperdub EP). Lush and bleepy.

Shake Shakir - Levitate Venice (Morphine)

Always exciting to hear new Shake material.....always forward thinking....

Margaret Dygas - Invisible Circles (Perlon)

Classic Perlon house....with a real injection of musicality....

Emvee - Glitch Dub (Wireblock)

Great funky...an irresistible combination of synths, strings and shakers

Mikkel Metal - Kenton EP (Echocord Colour)

Featuring a Marcel Dettmann rework, which is good but the original edges it for me. Lots of space but enough drive for the floor...

Siriusmo - The Uninvited Guest (Monkeytown)

New on Modeselektor's label....chunky party flavour...

Seth Troxler & Matthew Dear - Hurt (Ghostly)

A name-dropper's delight....and a good pairing of Dear and Troxler's relative skills. Some keys and some lo slung vocals and there you go.....

Actress - Ghosts Have A Heaven (PRIME NUMBERS)

Some more excellent dusty reduction house from actress.....including album track "Hazyville"....superb.

Moderat - Unofficial Remixes Pt 1 (50 Weapons)

What a cracking selection of remixers! T++, Shackleton and Headhunter all turn in fuk-dub belters. If this list had any order to it I guess this would make it to number one.....

Lory D - Plissken EP (Subdance)

Lory D reworks "the bank robbery" by John Carpenter to create italo joy. Tuneful.

LPs

Clark - Totems Flare (Warp)

I love Clark. Wonky melodic mince.

Moritz Von Oswald Trio - Vertical Ascent (Honest Jons)

Smart-arse and general dubby do-gooder Von Oswald teamed up with Max Loderbauer and Vladislav delay and  produced this...a wide ranging freeform collection of dub experiments....I don't smoke but I wish I did cos this would be immense with a good dose of weed.

Omar S - Fabric 45 (Fabric)

Yeah I know it's been out for ages but I need to mention it as it represents a full album of one of my favourite detroit producers' material....qulaity through and through....

Ha....just realised I charted this about 3 months ago already....guess I like it....

For anyone that's not into Myspace and who is here by mistake....I have finally embraced sociability of the distant impersonal kind.

I really need to do a chart.

Gutted to be saying this but the release of the new album has had to be put back till september due to Neuton going under.....

We've tried to get the new distribution sorted out quickly but we can't rush it and releasing over the summer is a no-go so it has to be september.....

Pish.

There's a sneak preview of album track "Physic" in the player for now......

New live set for download......recorded live for Redbox at Unit in Tokyo.......

Thursday, April 02, 2009
So.......slight delay....some great stuff from the last 3 months.....a ridiculously strong showing from the Berghain squad.

In no particular order:

STL - Nocturnal Mixdowns LP (Something)

F***ing expensive album, but worth every penny. Dusty, grimy house music.

Norman Nodge - MDR005 (MDR)

Super stripped techno from the Berghain fella. For the business end of the dancefloor.

Hudson Mohawke - Polyfolk Dance (Warp)

Out a fair while ago, but I've been doing my hair. neddless to say this is very very nice.

Neil Landstrumm - Empire On A Fiver EP (Stuff)

Excellent electrodubtechpish including a cracking remix of Rustie's jagz the smack.

Clark - Growls Garden (Warp)

Big and beautiful....

Shed - The Lower Upside Down (Surgeon Remix) (Ostgut)

It's a surgeon remix of shed. it sounds very good.

Omar S - Fabric Mix CD (Fabric)

An orgy of Omar S original productions lovingly put together on one CD for the first time. Like Time Life Music but more dancefloor.

Various Production - Treat Her Right EP (Various)

Cheeky remix of Adele of chirpy pop fame. and comes out smelling of roses....stunner.

Various Production - Keep Her Keen (Actress/Rustie Remixes) (Various)

Dream remix pairing. Rustie just edges it I reckon....

Ben Klock - One LP (Ostgut)

A whole album of eminently excellent and effulgent stripped techno. the 2 vocal numbers are particularly tremendous.

Scuba - From Within (Marcel Dettmann Remix) (Hot Flush)

Another great example of the techno/dubstep cross pollination.

TRG - They Know (Immerse)

Slow and weird and brilliant.

Zomby - Zomby EP (Hyperdub)

If this chart was in any order this would probably be at the top. A truly outstanding EP on the most reliable label in the world.

Shackleton - New Dawn (Scuba)

Early stuff from Shack and it's fookin good.

Ghosts On Tape - Mogadishu Night Life (Wireblock)

sharing an EP with Alex Cortex, Bogger and Truffle Club, this still manages to stand out. skanky and slick.

Alan1 - Sniff Em (Final Frontier)

outstanding cut up dancefloor stuff from new kid on the block Alan1. On Marco Passerani's imprint.
