We've been through in Glasgow playing our choices on the Saturday Shakedown again (many thanks to the long-suffering Ben and Matt) - some minor technical hitches aside, all went well and we managed not to play the same records that we chose last time....
....and.....
....again on Subcity (but Suck My Left One this time), Zombie Go Go Girl got a play with the accompanying comment (which pleased us greatly).....
.."possibly one of the finest zombie songs I've heard, I would definitely give it ten out of ten".....
What a happy bunch we are at the moment!

Well, it was advertised as "a night of hard drinking" (not by me, I might add). Still, at least I got conversation to keep me awake on the drive home. And we played well, I think; no noticeable screw-ups (screws-up? correct usage...). Roll on the next one which is in Edinburgh (at the moment).

I've just written a whole load of stuff and it got lost by me pressing a return key. Fuck it, I can't be arsed writing it again.
We've been upset/happy/having fun/not having fun/finding a new bassist*/finding a stand-in bassist**/arguing/agreeing/travelling to London/and so on...for the last 8 or 9 months.
* 'Bye Megan; hope all's well. * Hello Caz! **Thanks Lea. Have fun in China.

Another review here:- http://www.list.co.uk/article/12939-the-fnords/
It's nice to get noticed from time to time.
I need to go, the car's in a million bits and it needs to be raceable on Sunday.

Current mood: cheerful
All happy here....we had a track (Barring Lilith) played on Tom Robinson's BBC introducing programme on 6 Music on Friday night/Saturday morning.......didn't hear it, however, because we didn't know it was on and Sarah and I were in Bannerman's discussing forthcoming filming with the filmer and a friend.
However, thanks to the joys of the BBC i-player thingy, we've since managed to listen to it.
Following the slight hiatus over the last couple of months, we're starting to get organised again and there are some upcoming gigs for your enjoyment.
We've even arranged a rehearsal, so don't say we're not good to you.

My mother has given me a couple of ukelele books (which she'd inherited from her granny.....); a starter book and a book of "Songs Of The Trail And Range" - cowboy stuff. Yeeeha.
Shoot me if I start wearing a stetson.

There's a smiley thing and a music selection box, but I hate smileys and the Standells probably aren't one of the options (jumping to assumptions).

Well, I've got to collate the reviews somewhere. Would you prefer it if I plastered them all over the profile page? I'm sure it would make us look very important... This is a very fine review indeed. Many thanks to the Bluesbunny!
The Fnords take the stage first. When we say a stage, it is not really a stage. It is just the part of the room behind the pillars that are probably holding the entire building up and that dull red glow lights it. The Fnords start playing. In something that resembles a timewarp moment, Bluesbunny is transported back in time to 1978 and a similar basement bar in the city centre. The same wave of energy from those early punk bands hit us once again. It is not about songs. It is about transferring raw musical energy. Guitarist Sarah spits and snarls her way through the songs. Megan wrestles the low notes out her bass guitar and Derek plays his drumkit like it has done him some great personal disservice. The band mix in surf flavoured instrumentals as well in a way that would make Dick Dale proud. There are no epics here. All their songs kick their way of the speakers and burn up in under 3 minutes. No exceptions. This is certainly not background music. It is raw and in your face. All the way from the primordial swamp to a basement in Glasgow. Now that is the musical journey that this band takes us on.
Wheeee! And while we're here..here's the Scotsman review from May this year :
THE bosses and the apprentices of the local music scene were on show at the Bongo Club on Friday. In the latter category were the Fnords, an energetic three-piece specialising in messy, bouncy punk-pop.With simple, short, punchy songs and an intriguing penchant for retro instrumentals dominated by Shadows-esque guitar, they are a promisingly sparky outfit and their new single is worth a listen. So..people have said nice stuff. We are delighted, and perhaps just a bit bashful. xx

's fantastic what you find if you're obsessed enough to self-Google. Many thanks to Chris for his kind words, which I had no idea about up till now. And I quote.. " Headlining for the night were The Fnords, two girls and a bloke on drums. In the film of the same name, he'd be played by Bill Nighy, one of the girls by Gwenneth Paltrow and I'm no sure who we had pencilled in for the other girl, Kim Deal perhaps.Kind of spooky surf guitar, with neat 60's girl garage vocals, a set up from my usual reference point of Go Gos vocals.Natalie, Gillian and Rosalind were engaged in swinging their pants and dancing with strangers, Robbie was nodding and mouthing along.Particularly impressed with one of the songs called "I like to die", I dunno, it just resonated in a neat rock n roll kinda way. I really loved the solos, I wish mine sounded like that, and the yelps from the bass girl, the Wolfknuckles could do with that sort of thing." Excerpted from: http://lastnightfromglasgowindieeyespy.blogspot.com/search/label/The%20Fnords Wheee! Excelsior! If only I'd written 'I Like to Die'...but The Drags are one of the finest bands in the history of the world, and it's a glorious song to cover, so y'know...all good! xx
