Hey friends! As the band is getting ready to take off TX, we want to make sure that all our fans know when and where we're going to be down there. This is Greensky' first trip to the great state of Texas (where everything is bigger.... even the gsbg jams, we're thinking), so we need everybody to spread the word that we are on the way! We'll do our part.... you do yours!
The tour kicks off at Club Dada in Dallas on Thursday, Feb. 26th. Also on the bill are Fish Fry Bingo and the Blackland River Devils. GSBG will headline what promises to be an exciting night of music. Come on out and celebrate the kick-off of tour with GSBG!
On Friday, Feb 27th, we will be at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth. Don't let the "saloon" in the name fool you, all reports indicate that this club that knows how to rock. Its in the Stockyards area of town, which is where its at in Ft. Worth. Show starts at 9:00pm,
Saturday night, Feb. 28th, brings Greensky to Momo's and Austin, TX for the first time. Clearly we've been away from this music city for too long and will make up for it musically. guaranteed. THIS IS A LATE SHOW. Greensky starts at 11:30pm. There are bands playing all day long, so pace yourselves friends.... we'll bring the latenight rockin' bluegrass energy. Make sure to let the club know why you are there!
From TX, there's a stop at The Santa Fe Brewing Company and then on to COLORADO for Ski Tour '09.
We'll be in Breck, Keystone, Denver, Durango, Crested Butte, Vail, Boulder and Ft. Collins. Perhaps it would have been easier to list where we weren't playing. Hit the slopes by day and rock at night. Ski Tour '09.
Thanks so much for your support!!!! See you soon

We all had a great time at the Jammies last night in Grand Rapids! All of the bands played short sets (really short..... 15 minutes each, with 5 minutes of change-over!) - and amazingly enough, it went off without a hitch and was a blast.
We played Reverend and Train Junkie as the new album was up for a couple of awards and had a great time doing it. Its always good to play on stage after a few weeks off! We didn't win any awards, but that's o.k. Its just a bummer to see that good old fashioned bribery doesn't work anymore. Whats this world coming to? Just Kidding, of course.
On the way back to Kzoo, i was thinking about how great the MI music scene is and thats what this blog is supposed to be about. Aside from seeing a bunch of new, cool MI bands last night, we got to see amazing musicians like Steppin' In It (Josh Davis can write songs that sound like they've been around forever. its amazing), Rachael Davis (another absurdly good songwriter and a hell of a singer) and Four Finger Five (who brings the funk). if you havent heard these bands, you really should check them out.
And then as we were still on the way home, Cadillac Sky came on the satellite radio for a track by track play of their latest album...what a killer band they are (nicest guys in the world, too)! So i got to thinking about how good the music scene is not only in MI, but all over this whole country. Texas, Nashville, Colorado, San Francisco, NYC and all points inbetween are cranking out amazing musicians and songwriters and i/we feel really lucky to be a part of it all.
As musicians, we draw inspiration from all different sources, but i would venture to say that its the others musicians out there that really push and inspire me and force me to be better (and probably all of us). I really dont mean this in a competitve sort of way (oh yeah!- tying it all back to the awards show!- take that, blogosphere!), but in the sense that we're all working on the same thing.... music, songs, things that make people feel, make people happy or contemplative, make you dance AND make you think.
As usual, i got lost in my own blog and started writing about something different that i started writing about. oh well. its a blog. i hope it makes some sense.
see you soon. -AB

Hey friends! After a great trip out west, we're excited to again be in the studio! We've assembled the team and have made the trip to Hoxeyville for another week of making music. Tim Carbone is again at the production helm, and Ian and John of The Music Barn are slaving around the clock to attend to our endless noisemaking. Even our manager Matt has come out from California to complete the lineup.
We're three days in, halfway done, and increasingly excited to get this album out to the public. There'll be some stuff you've heard before and a handful of new originals. It's a great feeling to finally be getting some of our material on file after its live evolution, and the new songs have come together in no time at all. They've already proven to be a lot of fun for us.
Thanks, as always for all of your support. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Greensky Bluegrass is absurdly excited to announce that dobro player extraordinaire, Anders Beck, will be joining the band on a full-time basis. Fans of acoustic music know Anders from his work over the past few years with songwriter Benny Galloway and The Wayword Sons as well as numerous other collaborations with members of Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band and other Colorado legends. The relationship between GSBG and Anders started when the band played three shows in Colorado with The Sons and Anders sat in with the boys each night. Over the course of many late night jam sessions, it became clear that there was some serious musical chemistry brewing. At 2007's Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Anders joined GSBG for a song wearing large black angel wings. To this day, nobody really knows what that was all about, but what is known that it made everybody laugh and smile and jam a little harder, which really is what IT IS all about. In November, Anders joined GSBG on tour for a few weeks and it became very obvious that it was time to make this musical fantasy a reality.

Anders' creative and tasteful melodic playing add a new side to GSBG's already mature full sound. "Personally, I love Greensky's original songs and that is what initially really drew me to this band.", Beck says... adding later that "there are some bands where dobro doesn't fit or work due to a million different factors and others bands where it just fits instantly... Greensky definitely falls into the later group." Keeping on the subject, mandolin player Paul Hoffman stated that "this full-time addition of dobro, and particularly Anders' style of dobro playing, open up a lot of new doors for the band. Its a bigger, fatter sound and lets us explore different musical spaces... while still being able to shred bluegrass music."
Beck's first "official" show as part of Greensky Bluegrass will be at the band's New Years Eve Bash at the State Theatre in their hometown of Kalamazoo, MI. While Beck will be thrown into Greensky's rigorous tour schedule, he also notes that The Wayword Sons plan to continue to play shows and that he will continue working with some of his favorite side projects like Grateful Grass and The New Rank Strangers, featuring members of Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, Honkytonk Homeslice, and Ekoostik Hookah. Greensky will be announcing some January shows in the midwest very soon as well as a Valentine's run in MI. In late February the quintet will be headed west for a "Mountain Time" tour filled with bluegrass and skiing. Stay tuned for the details.
From everyone here at Camp Greensky, have a great holiday season and we'll see you on NEW YEARS EVE!!!

The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, our first ever live album, "Live at Bell's" is out of mastering and sent along to be printed and packaged for it's grand debut next month. To top it all off the boys are gearing up for another great autumn full of shows in many of our favorite towns!
Starting next weekend with a run to Chicago, IL and Madison, WI (Oct. 11-12) and then into full gear as we take up the age old notion and "head west" with almost a full month of dates spanning CA, OR, WA, MT, CO, MO with a few more last minute gigs bound to pop up along the way. We are also excited to announce there will be a new face behind the soundboard starting on Halloween and on thru Thanksgiving, our good friend Kevin Gregory (some of you may know him as Production Manger and Monitor Engineer for Yonder Mountain String Band), I am sure that we will all appreciate his vital role in keeping Greensky Bluegrass sounding sweet! West Coast starts with a couple dates around the SF Bay, Las Tortugas Dance of the Dead in Yosemite, our second annual Humboldt Halloween Spectacular with special guests Bucky Walters and on into Oregon for a great weekend of fun ending up in Seattle at the Tractor Tavern. From there we make a brief stop in Missoula, MT to visit our friends at The Loft for the night, and then on to Colorado! We are excited to welcome our good friend Anders Beck (Wayword Sons) as a special guest sitting in on dobro and steel guitars for the entire string of Colorado dates! Also, another dear friend will be joining us for the Stage Stop show on 11/9. Benny "Burle" Galloway , also of Wayword Sons, will be warming things up with a set of fine tunery. The next day we will be appearing in BOTH Denver (as part of Colorado Music Summit) and Ft. Collins at Avogadro's Number. Sunday we head back to Denver for a full fledged evening at Dulcinea's and then, as quickly as we arrived, we head back east to Michigan via Kansas City and points beyond. After catching our breath for a few days at home we have CD Release Parties in Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo over the Thanksgiving holiday and on into December!
Tickets are on sale here for NYE at Kalamazoo State Theater where we will be joined by Steppin' In It, as well as Seth Bernard & Daisy May
Hope to see all of you out there on the trail somewhere, at a roadhouse, festival or tavern near you!
