THE BEAT KITCHEN w/ REBEKAH OSBORN, NEW SONG POSTED
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season! The photo above was taken by Dave Shockey at Greyhouse (West Lafayette) back in April 2009. That evening, I was backed by Justin Edington on drums and John Davey on piano.
On Thursday, January 7, I will be giving an acoustic performance at The Beat Kitchen. Rebekah (MacLeod) Osborn will lend her voice during the entire set, and I might also have a friend on piano. If her name doesn't ring a bell, her voice is featured on my 2006 album, Without The City Lights (Oxford Street, Like A Wing, etc.) Click Here to download that album absolutely free through Noisetrade.com.
Rebekah will also be featured on the new acoustic album I'm recording. As a preview, I've posted a rough mix of "Do You Keep Me Close?" on my myspace page. Please give it a listen! This song will give you a good idea of what you'll hear at the Beat Kitchen in January. If you like the song, please tell a friend or two.
For those of you living in the Lafayette area, I'm trying to set up a local show in late January or early February. When it's finalized, you'll be the first to know!
Thursday, January 7 - Acoustic Performance ** Featuring Rebekah (MacLeod) Osborn ** The Beat Kitchen 2100 W. Belmont Ave. Chicago, IL 60618 773-281-4444 Doors at 8:30pm Show at 9pm 21 and over $10 (buy tickets online)
Friday, January 8 - Acoustic Performance Starbucks (w/ The Loop) 349 Park Avenue Glencoe, IL 60022 847-835-8098 7pm, All-ages Free!!
For those of you wondering, I made the Top 11 in the Johnny Cash Song contest (out of 70+ submissions). I wasn't lucky enough to make it into the Top 3, but I have a full year to work something out for next year. Any song suggestions?
Peace & best, Mike Reeb :)

Hello everyone! I haven't been very active these last few months, but a Johnny Cash cover song contest (johnnycashradio.com) encouraged me to get out my Tascam 388 and see what I could put together. After sifting through my LPs, I chose to cover Johnny's 1958 single, "What Do I Care." Over 70 songs were submitted, and I made it into the Top 11!
The original version of this song is upbeat, in 4/4 time, and has Johnny's signature shuffle you hear in a lot of his earlier work. I took a different approach and recorded it much slower in 6/8 time. Start to finish, the entire recording only took me two days. I recorded all of the instruments myself and mixed the final version on the Tascam. Analog tape has its downfalls, but there's something really nice about recording music without a computer nearby. Let's hope I can use this momentum to finish the album I've been working on for the past several months.
This song will soon be available as a FREE DOWNLOAD to everyone on my email list. To join my email list and learn more about the many perks, visit free.mikereeb.com. See you soon, Mike Reeb :)http://mikereeb.com http://twitter.com/mikereeb http://myspace.com/mikereeb
