Visual Artist of the Year - 2007 Music Nova Scotia Awards

Woohoo. I won! And I had an awesome weekend at

White Point Resort... the magical land of
beer and bunnies!

The panel discussion I took part in went well too.
I had lots of cool feedback which was great. It's
good to know we weren't just rambling on wasting
people's precious drinking time!

Check it out... I won BEST LOCAL MUSIC PHOTOGRAPHER
at The Coast's Best of Music awards. The actual award is
an old 8 Track... pretty damn cool. After the awards a big o'le crowd of us got smashed and did karaoke. I sang Add it up by the Violent Femmes.

ECMA Graphic Designer of the Year - I WON!!!

2007 East Coast Music Awards

Last year I was nominated for Photographer and Graphic Designer of the Year and got neither. This year I got one of the two, so I'm officially 50% less of a loser than last year. Not bad!

Visual Artist of the Year

for the 2006 Music Nova Scotia Awards

Here's me celebrating with a tasty beer.

Oh... and that's the award I'm drinking out of.

Yeah, you can't take me anywhere, I know.

The Coast - Best of Halifax

In 2006 I got 3rd and in 2007 I got 2nd place in The Coast's Best Of Halifax category for Best Photographer in Halifax. Hopefully momentum will be on my side next year and I'll win, ha.

This photo was printed in the 2004 American Photo Reader's Contest issue.

It was a really nice pat on the back seeing as over 50,000 other photos from around the world were also entered.

As for the photo itself, it's not make-up as I am sometimes asked. He's a friend of mine who got swarmed by a group of people while walking home one night. They caught him off guard and pushed him down at which time he basically skidded across the pavement on his face. Once he started to fight back, they ran away like the cowards they were! So he successfully defended the $8 he had on him, ha. Unfortunately his face was a little worse for wear.

He's fine now though. He heals REALLY fast!!

Here are some photos from the ECMA weekend!

Jill Barber and Carmen Townsend both stole hearts.

Blair Harvey stole people's booze.

But The Tom Fun Orchestra stole the show!

Just to prove I'm not a one trick pony, here are a few
photos that don't have any dirty hairy musicians in them.

I owe that seagull a fish. He couldn't have placed himself any better.
It's nice working with professionals like him.
To see more photos of Alcatraz, click here.

This is a buddy of mine who got mugged.
The photo was printed in American Photo!!

Welcome to my world. How do you spend your Sunday afternoons?
And no, that's not a product of Photoshop.

No actual rummies were harmed or harassed to make this photo.

Yup!

Gay Pride Parade 2003 - I wish more people were this
comfortable with who they are. Maybe more of us would
have lipstick kisses on our boobs then too.

Yup!

This train station in Madrid was really busy so one photo just wouldn't show that.

Bryan Lee O'Malley - Creator of the Scott Pilgrim series

I admire honesty!

Once when I went to see a movie, I REALLY had to use the washroom
but the film was way too funny to leave. By the time I got to the washroom,
3 people came and went at the urinal next to me before I was done.
This photo is pretty much how I felt.

Bees are beautiful and docile creatures. Wasps are jerks!

The rare Mick Jagger fish.

In Sept I was asked to go to ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Boston and have a month-long solo show as part of the Nemo Music Festival. So, a bunch of us (2 festival promoters, 1 band manager, 1 DJ and of course, 1 photographer) all piled into a van and drove on down for the festival. This is kinda what it looked like...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I wanted to show off my photos and throw a kick ass party. I consider both of my Boston goals accomplished.

That's myself and Waye from the Halifax Pop Explosion as my exhibition party was closing down. Yes... he always laughs like a 4 year old girl.

Part of my posse good and late at night. This is how we roll.

SEX, DRUGS & MARKETING was my solo show here in Halifax in Oct during the Halifax Pop Explosion. It was a really fun month!! I got tonnes of press for the show too... t.v., radio, newspaper, online music magazines... the whole shebang!!!

Opening night!!

No party is complete without setting something on fire. I have a few friends into fire twirling and eating so I asked them to put off a show. Thanks again ladies!!!!

The opening was so much fun that I thought what the hell... I'll throw a Halloween closing party too!

Here are some pics from the Shoreline Festival in Rollo Bay PEI.

Unfortunately this year's festival saw many an attendee shaking an angry fist
at the sky as it poured down ridiculous amounts of rain. But there was still
plenty of fun to be had and I managed to break out the camera during some
sunny breaks.

Greg hard at work.

Glug... Glug... Glug
The breakfast of champions!

Trippy. Not sure what happened here. The camera must have rubbed up
against some hippy and gotten a contact stone.

There was a whole lotta hula-hoopin' goin' on!!

Artsy stage in the glasses shot.

Ehhhhhhh... what's up doc?

I've done a fair bit of work with Joel Plaskett over the last
year, so I figured I'd pile it all into one blog.
Here ya go...

Promo shot. As a cool side note, we drank a
45 year old bottle of scotch during this shoot!
Yes, it was worth the wait.

Joel's return home show at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.

Joel Plaskett's new DVD is out. I know it doesn't really
look like a photograph anymore but I shot the photo of
him on the cover.

Ironically, the power went out shortly after this
totally light based photo was taken.

The latest edition of Halifax Magazine is out. Check out this
month's cover story on the Halifax music scene featuring
Joel Plasket on the cover... shot by yours truly.

East Coast Music Awards weekend.

The Junos (Canada's music awards) came here to Halifax this year.

Myself and a friend did the design work for Junofest (posters, stage banners, newspaper ads, t-shirts, etc), so the weeks leading up to the event were really busy for me.

It was a fun weekend comprised of lots of music and the escalated bar tab to match!!! Just the way I like it. This is how the weekend looked through my eyes.

Getting the other cameras in this shot wasn't an accident. Several
times, I moved back a little so you can see exactly where those glossy
headshots you see all the time actually come from.

Notice the black eyes drawn on the pic of Matt.

This evil little photo of Chris just happened to be numbered 666 by
the camera.

Another packed media scrum. I have the regular o'le headshots but
I find this angle way more interesting.
