Everyone is having a cow (or should I say pig... lol) about the swine flu pandemic that’s supposed to kill 90,000 people this year. Let me begin by saying "whatever". That number is the Obabma admin's trumped up worst case scenario. If you follow a few simple rules that apply to any respiratory virus you can avoid getting sick or lessen the severity of the flu if you get it.
First rule: Eat healthy. Eat only whole foods that YOU cook. In other words - don’t eat a bunch of pre packaged bull crap. Eat fresh meats, vegetables, fruits, grains and dairy (organic if you can afford them). WASH all your food before you consume it. A lot of our food - especially vegetables and fruits come from ....Mexico...., and are picked and packaged by people who can't afford or do not have access to quality medical care. Do NOT be afraid of eating pork. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. If you cook your meat properly - any bacteria that may be hanging around in your pork will be killed my the heat. When the swine flu was the rage in the news, I was buying pork for prices I hadn't seen since 1980. I stocked up. Pork is a good source of protein and is quite tasty in my opinion. Make sure you are not eating all carbs and no protein. The more carbs you eat, the more water your body stores to process them, the more water you retain, the more likely you are to get sick. Water is good - but not if your tissues are water logged. Bacteria and Viruses love water logged tissue to move around in. Drink lots of water - but if you are eating the wrong things your body will hang onto to much of it. Watch your Carb intake. 50 Carbs a day is healthy. 150+ carbs a day is BAD. Carbs turn into sugar- to much sugar for your body to use in one day. Portion control is simple - eat more protein and less carbs. Soy and wheat are not as healthy as you may think... limit your intake. Fresh meats, veggies and fruit that YOU cook and prepare are your best bet. Take a lunch with you to work. I sound like a broken record I know.. but if you want to be healthy, you will pass on the hamburger helper/McDonalds/Pizza.
Peanut Butter (natural - the kind you stir) is a wonder food. Eat it every day with sliced apple, celery - whatever. Just a couple tablespoons fills you up. Use olive oil in your cooking - it’s a good source of "good cholesterol".
Second Rule: WASH YOUR HANDS WASH YOUR HANDS WASH YOUR HANDS... every time you are near a sink that has hot water and soap. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE unless you are washing it or applying makeup. EVER. Wash your hands BEFORE AND AFTER you apply makeup. I cant stress this enough. Every time you touch money - wash your hands. Push a shopping cart - wash your hands. Every time you touch a door knob / handle - wash your hands. Shake hands? WASH YOUR HANDS. EVERY TIME you touch ANYTHING in a public place - wash your hands. Buy some of that hand sanitizer and carry it with you. USE IT. Then when you get to a sink - you got it - WASH YOUR HANDS. If you just follow this ONE RULE you cut your chances of getting the flu/cold/respiratory illness IN HALF at least. If you have to itch your nose - use a tissue.. then... well you know.
Third Rule: Avoid crowds. Some of you live in crowded areas I know.. but when you can stay at home - you will be much less likely to come into contact with a sick person. I'm not talking about becoming a hermit - but go to the midnight showing of that movie you want to see... go shopping early or late.... you get the picture.
Fourth Rule: Clean your house! Buy a can of Lysol or sanitizing wipes and wipe down or spay your sink, desk, countertops, every hard surface in your home. The flusher on the toilet, door knobs, refrigerator door handle, phone... anything your guest may have touched. Buy a water proof keyboard that you can wash and sanitize - if you can afford one. I found one recently for under 40 bucks with shipping. Not really a rule – but here goes – normally I would not get a flu shot because I think they are bull shit, but if the CDC does come up with enough vaccine for us all… I would consider getting one if you live in a heavily populated area. Lastly – stop freaking out! Stress damages your immune system. Take up yoga or Ti Chi or meditation. Take Zinc and Vitamin D3. 500 mg of cinnamon a day helps process sugar and rids your body of excess water. I’ve been taking this combination for 8 months and have lost nearly 90 lbs.. Most of it water I’m sure.. and I haven’t been this healthy in 30 years.

In case anyone was wondering - I'm still alive. I get so wrapped up in my life I forget there are other people out there. Happy birthday Sis (Trish - I am horrible at birthdays! You know that!)
I'm currently focusing on losing the 150lbs I've gained over the last 10 years. 60 lost - just 90 to go! Woot! Hahaha! Piece 'o cake! Or NO piece 'o cake, as the case may be. My goal - 150 lbs.... shut up - I can do it! I weighed just 135 when I got pregnant with Shelly. God, I miss those skinny jeans! To all my skinny nieces, kids, sister, I was there - you better watch it! It just takes a little depression and a bad diet to get like this, the fat gene is in there.. fight it! Time flies when you're eating cheesecake! LOL!
Other than that- Mandy is doing good in school - ANOTHER TEENAGER! WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!!???? Did I say that out loud? sorry. haha!
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. I got to see all my kids - it was nice. I didn't get to see CLOEE - She was on load to California.... but hopefully in the near future.
So tell me dear family - what is your New years Res? Hmmmm? Mine is to lose this @($&# FAT AND quit smoking. I haven't quit yet because I'm afraid it will impede my weight loss. Hey, at least I'll be a pretty corpse.
Happy blogging!

Category: Religion and Philosophy
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well : Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities: 1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. 2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God." THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.
