Hello. I've had the good fortune to have recently exhibited work in a couple of  great venues: Down among the cells of the 'Old Bridewell Police Station' as part of the '12 Days of Xmas' exhibition'...

Here's some photo's I took of Bridewell:

...and in 'The Old Pro Cathedral' as part of the 'Mortal' exhibition.(photo by Nick Law I think)

During the Inbristol open studio weekend local kids helped myself and other artists based at the studios to stencil leaf shapes onto the carpark wall. Here's some photos:

Hello there.

I hurriedly finnished this zombie for the private view of our open studio's event last weekend. It still needs a bit of work doing on the rear so you can walk right around it and peer into the back of it's eye sockets.

This new carcass (entitled 'Decendent') hangs suspended in the air and has a spider plant growing from the bottom of its neck.

I exhibited a few other things at the Inbristol studios open weekend including my insect shoe. We also painted a mural on one of the buildings exterior walls with the help of local kids ( I'll post a blog with some mural painting photo's at some point.)

(The dust around the shoe is talc and is supposed to look like ant powder or some such insect slaying chemical. The delicate spheres on the shelf below were made by ceramicist Katie Shepherd and in this context look to me like they could be insect eggs.)

Some spider plant trivia: Spider plants have the ability to clean the air. They take in and metabolise atmospheric pollutants and use them as food, thus reducing or eliminating some toxins. They are particularly good at removing carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and nitrogen from the air. -Good in a smokers household!

BurgerThing was inspired by the mechanized meat industry and by Rob Bottin's special effects in John Carpenter's 'The Thing'-(This is a link to some sound clips from the film. I'd recommend giving 'More Monster Sounds' a listen.)

Materials: acrylic, gloss and spraypaint, papier-mâché, old dollys, bones, teeth, plastic and wig hair on plywood.

St. Werburghs and Easton art trails took place last weekend and as is typical with this 'summer', the rain came doon -sometimes in torrents!

I've put photos below of some artwork I hung in the garden of the Mina road housing co-op: 'Decadence in Dorset' displayed in a decadent frame, and a ghoulish mobile with a face made from woven willow twigs and leaf skeletons, and forearms and hands made from a couple of  Fatsia Japonica leaves. In the wind this character became quite animated, it's arms jerking around like those of a puppet.

Last Tuesday I did a workshop with some kids at Lawrence Weston Community Farm making monsters out of fruit and vegetables. Here are some of their creations:

On friday afternoon I took a few cans of Belton down to the Temporary Autonymous Artspace and painted a walking cadaver (with ascending soul) onto an 8ft wooden pannel.

-Thanks to Bristol Insurgent Artists for turning a dusty warehouse into a gallery and performance space for a weekend. (I enjoyed mucking about on the photocopier and rotating on the oversized record deck made from a washing machine drum)

Eve pointed out that this chaps death breath looks a bit like an Om  which gives me the perfect excuse to post up a picture of one of my favorite zombies -the naughty Hare Krishna from (the original) Dawn of the Dead. The symbol next to him is an Om written in Tamil script.

(Whilst I'm on the subject of the undead, Zombiedollars is a website set up by Nik Holmes containing some smashing pictures of zombies by different illustrators. -Well worth a peep.)

Hello. Here's some pic's of last Saturdays live illustration at 'Windows 204'.

Apart from a pen bursting and covering me and the windowsill in green ink at one point, we had a productive day. I drew a portrait of my (now deceased) Venus Flytrap, and Andy drew a dragon constructed from household possessions.

A visit was made to Joe's bakery (one of Bristol's tastiest bake shops) which is situated a few doors down. I troughed a chocolate eclair and worked my way slowly through a cheese and vegetable pasty and Andy enjoyed a custard slice.

(The first and last photo's posted below were taken by Deborah Weinreb.)

(thanks to Kirsten and Deborah. thanks to Eve for beer.)

Hello,

Here are some images of my artwork from this years Frontroom art trail:

1. Picture of a couple meandering home from the pub -drawn on the Shakespeare's window. (also featuring Andy finishing his duck made out of glasses and bottles of booze.)

2. 'Rotter' -Detail from a lifesize sculpture of a zombie made out of found natural materials, (the bark of wild cherry trees foraged from woodland floors in Leigh Woods and Colemans Hatch, sticks picked up from the cycle path and Greenbank Cemetery,) twine and p.v.a glue.

3. 'Totterdown Dustmite' -Felt, cotton, fabric strips, picture frame and reclaimed carpet. (I found this carpet dumped outside a Totterdown house during last years art trail and got it into my brain to turn it into some kind of picture and exhibit it this year.)

Thanks to Pete and Suzanne for the use of their yard, for their hospitality and for their fantastic foil frontroom.
