gday boys and girls!

im here in London gettin my new USA working visa, its a very frustrating process i go through every few years, its like sitting a big test you are pretty sure you will pass but you still arnt %100 percent sure you will... anyways, im all good, im now just waiting on my visa to be posted back to me, im staying at my friends house, english weather is pretty average here, but ive eaten Indian food twice in 2 days now, its great for vegetarians, they sure know how to make chic peas interesting!..

Aussie Rules season started again (Australian Rules Football), there is no chance trying to find a game in a pub in USA, i i thought i was in luck being here in London... we went to the "Walkabout" put to watch the Hawk's play north melbourne.. i got the times wrong, infact i was like a day late, sux!... we won though... we trashed em!... sydney swans though... dont ask!

thanx everyone who sent me their birthday wishes, it was very kind! april 6 was a nice day, its actually my dad birthday too...

ive been listening to the new Phoenix album, per mike cardens advice, man.... its great, ive been a fan of them since that album "united" i used to be in a band with a guy called matt vasques... who is now the singer of the band "the delta spirit" but we used to live together and we would drive around lisentng to the song "Too Young" doing air keyboard moves,... i can play air keyboard way better than air guitar!...

im on twitter, if you have gotten though this far of my ranting that you may be intrested!...

gday everyone

its thursday night here in NYC, a pretty wet and cold day, i was hoping it would snow but i guess no luck! i must say that with all those christmas lights up everywhere, this city sure does look amazing, ive had a few days off here so i have been walking around listening to my ipod... really with nothing to do, its been great!

alot of cool music just came out, ive been listening to new killers, that song "A Dustland Fairytale" is great, new bronx...Young Bloods is a sweet song... i got the new ryan adams, im a huge ryan adams fan,... ive been listening to it on repeat late at night. Cocteau Twins is a band that i got into a few years ago when i was living in London. i shared a room with joel who was obsessed with em, william (the academy is) recently got into them so it kinda rekindled my love for them, heaven or las vegas is such a great album, the guitar stuff is so good! a band called "bat for lashes" has a song called "sad eyes" which is amazing, i have listened to that quite a bit while flying from A to B. also the cure "friday im inlove" i think is one of the greatest songs recorded! everything about that song sounds so good. ok... i got off track!

last night i went to an aussie pub in NYC to watch the Australian Rules Grandfinal, the game was agaist hawthorn & geelong, because im a victorian boy, i grew up with posters of the hawks on my wall.. posters of dermott brereton, gary ayres, michael tuck, jason dunstall johnny platten & dipierdomenico... ( went to wikipedia for that spelling!) anyways its been 17 years since we have won and last finished in great results! Hawks 115 geelong 89

i bumped into a old school friend their as well which was nice because i came alone and was prepared to watch the game with 250 aussie strangers!... ha!

we (the academy is...) have ben goin over some setlist ideas over the past few days and are pretty damn excited to get out this tour and play 3 albums worth of songs!

for those of you who dont know, we called it "bill and trav's bogus journey" tour... there is a movie called "bill and teds bogus journey".. actually.. if you havent seen the first one... i think its better!.. its got that extreme song in it... "do you want to play".. i just found the clip on youtube.. so funny..

i spent a few months trying to play that when i was about 14.. its pretty hard, man, Nuno bettencourt is such a great guitarist... infact joe trohman gave me a "nuno bettencourt N4 washburn" a few months ago... its great to shred on...

man... i cant believe the last blog i did was when i met les paul!.. that feels like a year ago!...

im writing from my hotel room in New Zealand!... we have a day off today so me and jack went to a nice vegetarian place, it was pretty good,

so far the tour has been great, the aussie shows where so good! its nice to hear aussie accents everywhere! actually when we came back from the signing, i nearly got kicked out of the backstage signing because i wasnt american... i kept saying "the academy is... are from chicago except me... im aussie... i promise!" it wasnt goin good intill the butcher came over and helped plead my case!

so our new album "fast times at barrington high" is out!... its out everywhere! including australia, so i hope everyone has had a chance to check it out!..

i have been putting some cool photos on FRIENDSORENEMIES.com that jack took, also... TAI TV... its up to date on itunes podcast now... the latest one, i went around and showed some people on warped tour vegemite, its a good thing i did it over the last few days of tour, i definantly made a few enemies! for some reason some americans dont like the stuff!..

we head to japan after this, i have been practicing my japanese...

man.... my bead head moose hair stuff exploded in my toiletries bag, i discovered it a little while ago.... it went EVERYWHERE! my toothbrush is definantly not goin to recover!

hey!... so here i am, in New York City working on the 3rd "the academy is..." record, so far.. man.. im very excited to get this thing out, i guess when you hear it, you will understand but yeh,. we have sure had alot of fun makin this thing!

its monday, a public holiday... we took today off from recording, i went for a walk in central park, its pretty cool, saw the museum... after watching indianna jones i thought "walkin through a museum sounds pretty fun" it ended up costing 20 bucks.. i forgot my wallet.. nice park though!! atleast that part was free!

Les Paul is the guy who built the first "solid-body" guitar... leo fender and Adolph Rickenbacher did stuff round the same time but les paul... we all know that guitar when we see it, type les paul into YOUTUBE and check his playing out, its amazing... thats one thing about technology is that there is alot of cool things from the 50s that until now has been very hard to aquire!... anyways,.. les paul played tonight in NYC, i went and saw him, he cant quite play like he used to but it was a great night!, he was pretty funny!, i got a photo, its in my photos...

anyways its 3:43am... for anyone in USA.. ill see you on warped tour... for anyone in australia,.. ill see you on the panic at the disco tour... that includes you kiwis!.. everyone else!.. im sure people are trying to figure out how and when!

Happy april fools!

Not too long ago I was on tour with my very good friend butch walker, we where sound checking, I think we could have been in NY state or something, I started playing a riff over and over, Darren Dodd joined in on drums almost as if we had planned it, next thing we know butch starts singing the verses to "wreck me", "I have had these lyrics for a while I just didn’t have music for em" he said, the fact that it felt like we wrote a song in about 8-minutes felt very rewarding and simple, the way music was meant to be! We came off tour and went into a studio in venice beach la, we spent about 8-days recording a record, we flew through stuff, the songs clicked with little or no effort!

I met the academy is... Guys when I was working on the song offline, they did the video to "slow down" at butch wakers house when I was living/house sitting there. Me and mike Carden talked for hours in between shoots, if you look close enough, you can see me in the video! I wasn’t in the band at this point!,

I’m very proud of 1969, a lot of the stuff started off as very odd garage band (recording program) files, for example "all talk no action" you can hear the vibrations of the bus in the very intro,

We went and saw the academy is play at the house of blues in hollywood a few nights into our 1969 sessions, I remember talking to mike for hours about music and sounds, a topic we always discus to this very day,

Anyways, I want you to check out 1969, at least check out some songs on the myspace page! I believe you can buy it on vinyl soon which is sweet!!

We are in the middle of writing the 3rd album of the academy is at the moment, I must say, we are very excited about it and I can’t wait to show everyone!!

hello everyone!


its australia day here... im in la at the moment... its 3:18am so its aussie day for both america and australia... hard to explain but it makes sense if you think about it for a bit!,,

i was very sad to hear about heath ledger, i know its cool to say it now but i really did like him as an actor, he played ned kelly a few years ago and i thought he was fantastic! i have been excited to see the new batman with him as the joker, he was an aussie actor i wasnt expecting we would lose, especialy at 28... poor guy

i went to NAMM which is a crazy gear festval in aneheim (where disney land is) california... anyways, it was good... i little crazy.. there where thousands of booths there with gear... its kinda like a guitar center on steroids... i met up with butch walker who i havent seen since our show at the wiltern about 4 months ago, it was ncie catchin up, we roamed the gear booths together, we met up with my friends from visual sound who do some amazing pedals, like the route 66... that night we went to a place called "slide bar" which is owned by butchs friend jeremy, we had some amazing food there... i spent about 2 1/2 years with butch, playing for him... it also resulted in me living at his house... i was that guy that slept on his couch... but for months at a time!


i have been listening to dinosaur jnr lately, man... what a guitar sound.. check out the song "feel the pain" i got to watch him play a few times last year, i stood side of stage at a few festvals...

i was goin to give an update on life but im really tired.... i cant think of anything else!...

hey everyone!

i hope you have had a nice weekend, i trust that your holidays went well, i put up the christmas lights n my place, i thought i did a great job until the rest of my street joined in and made my effort look very unimpressive!

i went to the cricket the other day at the SCG (sydney cricket ground) australia Vs india, we won but only just, i was wearing a pretty sweet cricket hat but i still got sunburned,

mike carden has learnt the cost of a phone call from chicago to sydney australia... we talked for about 45mins... it cost him something like $130... not that im not worth it or anything...

triple j is a cool radio station in australia that i have been listening to for most of my life, once a year they do a competition called "triple js hottest 100" i would love for the academy is... to get a little triple j love this month, this really only applies to aussies because you can win some stuff, its cool... click on the box below to vote for "neighbors" by "the academy is..." it will be fun!!!

hey!

so its 3am.. i cant sleep!.. but that so suprise rite??!.. im watcing a brian setzer dvd i found on tour,

i got my wisdom teeth out on tuesday so its been a bit of time now, im feeling much better now, i still cant eat regular food!. sux to be me!.. i have had soup and ice cream... you would think icecream doest sound so bad.. well, i cant have milk because of my sinus problems.. so i have been having soy icecream... its not so good! so i am excited to eat normal food in a few days!my face is all puffed up pretty bad too.. sometimes i will catch myself in the mirror and freak for a second, seriously... with the way my cheaks are i look like a compleatly diffrent human! i have been sitting at home watching so many dvds... i watched all the Godfathers! i watched home alone 2 for the christmas vibe but i only stayed awake for the first 20 mins of it,

did you hear that "the academy is..." the band im in won "Most Popular Band On Buzznet 2007" pretty cool right?? i had no idea!

im back in sydney by the way... i cant handle the coldness, im sure i will spend some of my time in the cold chicago early 2008 so i am going to enjoy as much sun here as i can, maybe ill go to the beach... try get a tan...

well im excited about catchin up with all my mates back here in sydney... play some pool... you know who you are!..

the new TAI TV stuff us up.. for those who dont know what im talkin about tai (the band im in... the academy is...) tv (television) so anyways, if you love i-pods, i-tunes or just podcasts check em out... check out the new one altest.. the cutting room floor.. a bunch of bloopers... at the start i was really sick... REALLLLLY.... I actually thought i had a tereble illness... i had an incredible feavor.... its funny seeing that footage now though!

2007 turned out pretty good!.. but i have a feeling 2008 is going to be amazing... maybe thats just the Optimist in me!
