Fiona Talkington played Snow Dove (from the album Bridges) on her late Junction programme last night which has put a smile on my face all day because Late Junction is such a fantastic radio programme, it always contains an awe inspiring selection of music and champions some of the most interesting and innovative musicians who may not usually get airplay on main stream radio. So I am thrilled and very humbled to be included.

Calum, Ian and I are off to Maida Vale studios this weekend to record two live tracks for Howard Goodall's Christmas programme...details to come on when that will be aired on radio 2.

For those of you who heard the programme, there is a slight mistake down to a misprint in the album sleeve Snow dove is trad, arranged by Katie Doherty, Ian Stephenson, Calum Stewart and Martin Douglas and not as Fiona said; Kathryn Tickell. Kathryn did arrange the following track on the album, Port and Brandy rather beautifully. Apoligies!

Bridges is availible as of today nationwide, however some of you have come to me to ask why you have not been able to purchase it from your local record store, so here is a brief explanation and a way you could help...

Stores will not order in stock for a new, unknown artist unless there is request from the public to do so, this fact is even greater now that the internet is so prominant in the cd purchasing market. So for those of you who still prefer 'hard copies' of your music (in order to experience the beautiful artwork, lyrics, proper credits and better sound quality) it is up to you to say so. All of your local record stores have bridges availible to them if you would like to buy it from them please ask them to order it in. Of course this will help me because the more shops which hold stocks, the more people will be given the oppurtunity to see my music and decide whether they like it or not, rather than not knowing about it at all.

Some stores are stocking bridges already (if you are in newcastle you should be ok) Alternatively you can buy it on amazon, itunes and other download sites and you can even buy a copy through me if youd like to! just drop me a private message on here and Ill tell you where to send a cheque. I only have a very limited supply but I would be very happy for you to have them.

Thankyou to everyone who has gone to a shop already

love katie x

I have almost come to the end of my position as Musical Director for the Royal Shakespeare Company production of As You Like It. I have thoroughly enjoyed theatre life and I have to say, the company I had the pleasure of working with displayed such a commitment, passion, and drive in their work, I was constantly in awe of their work ethic. Most of the time I was exhausted just watching them! I went to see the product of their efforts last saturday night and their focus pays off ten fold, it is an amazing piece of art and a breath of fresh air for shakespeare. The play is directed by Sam West; who I already had fond memories of as prince caspian in the BBC version of The Chronicles of Narnia which I was obsessed with as a child! (I was a bit embarrased though, so I didnt tell him that!) He has the most amazing imgination and creativity as a director as well as being a truely lovely person to boot, Howard Goodalls music was lovely to work with, with rearrangement it became very folky and I wrote some wee incidental bits based on his tunes (sneaking some traditional stuff in there for good measure occasionaly too). This all got sprinkled with fairy dust by a man who can only be described as a sound wizard; Paul Arditti realised both mine and Sams visions of sound and music and conjured them up instantly and exactly like magic! Anyway, I have learned alot from Sam and Paul and the whole As You Like It company and I would reccommend anyone who can to go and see As You Like It; its on until Saturday at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield before it moves to Stratford (where apparantly the party really begins!) Reviews can be found in the guardian, independent and telegraph online.

the play fills you with questioning, which is just what I like art to do.

Id like to thank the amazing musicians who played the music for me;

Ian Stephenson, Shona Mooney, David Wood and Rachael Newton, and especially Ian who engineered the recording which was super good.

just a wee note to let you know that the beautiful looking and sounding new album from Kathryn Tickell is out now, its called strange but true and its an album of collaborations, you can get it everywhere, yep everywhere!  it features one song from me and olivia Ross, who plays fiddle on my album but also has a phenomenally gorgeous voice. We are singing a Burns song- Winter is Past with a melody written by me, its a really moving song in warning of love, there is a version on my album but this one is VERY different, i.e. no drum n bass! the album also features collaborations with the brazz brothers, catriona MacDonald, folkestra, corrina Hewat, karen tweed, anxo lorenzo and more. anyhoo its lovely.

hope everyone is well

EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW ALBUM TRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

For everyone who doesnt actually believe I have made an album this is the title track Bridges, UNMIXED!!!! so it doesnt sound anywhere near up to scratch but hey! all the tracks on here have been live recordings so far so I know it is difficult to listen past the rough edges. bear with me.

Some of you may know that I help Alistair Anderson on his Northern folk programme on BBC Radio Newcastle, Cleveland and Cumbria which airs every Sunday evening between 9 and 10 pm. Usually I just do the whats on diary and odd interviews here and there, but I will be doing some half hour slots of music and chat about music every so often from now on. I've done one so far which which basically comprised some of my favourite tracks...So heres where I need some help, I'd like to give some airplay to great trad/folk artists who you feel that you dont often hear on the airwaves, I'm sure theres loads, so if you can think of anything let me know! I look forward to hearing your thoughts, I know the myspace crowd generally have great taste in good music.
