you know, this has got to be one of the most interesting yet most forgetful genres to be an artist. I was having a conversation about over lunch today and the subject of longevity and musical genres came up. We spoke about the lack of support for hip hop artist as they grow older. How all those who stand beside them on the way up jet for greener pastures when the newness wears out. My man Emilio was pointin out how a song that's barely over a year old made the throwback of the week on BET. BARELY OVER A YEAR!, WTF!! If that's a throwback then it makes perfect sense why I've been so thoroughly dismissed by heads who used to check for what I was, and still am, overly capable of bringing. So here I am with another project, another year. Last year's project, Breez Evahflowin & Dirt E. Dutch are Troublemakers topped the CMJ hip hop charts peaking at number 2 beaten only by Lupe Fiasco. It was my best work and my first full length LP ever. We received a massive amount of college airplay a decent amount of sales, but really didn't bang that hard on the big blogs. Honestly, being somewhat of an old schooler,  I didn't think much of it, I didn't really check many blogs and there were so many I didn't know where to check first. So again here I am, another project another year, this time working with DJ Fisher from Domination Records. We blast off a freebie  'OVER feat Swave Sevah & Shaneeka Harrell' a month ago and get massive downloads from a bunch of blogs. then we follow it up with the 1st video for the Breez Deez Treez LP (coming soon) and set a personal youtube record of over 1000 hits in 3 days! I am geezed at the response, I dont know what to make of it. I'm happy with the few hundred people who normally check my vids and music, this is something entirely different....it's gotta be the blog effect...and it is massive. I guess there are too many options out there and apparently people need help sifting through them and that's where the bloggers come in, ok, I get it. Strange tho, unlike a lot of the journalist I've dealt with in the old "please get me in your magazine" days, bloggers are actually cool peoples. Some with no journalism background whatsoever, just people with strong opinions or people who like to share cool shit. I can only imagine how ancient and behind the times I must sound to some of you. Getting back to being forgotten and the whole disposable artists thing, along with the burn, comes the anonymous comments, I'm just gonna cut and paste a few from here and there so that you can fully understand my subject line. Here's what real people are saying about the new releases:
wooooowww wrote on 05/15 :where has this muthafucka been at? wow
Di Last Man Standing, GAZA We Seh Says on june 3rd : wooowwwww  I thought this bredah retired…Stronghold still make music together….?
Nice...very reassuring. What a way to make a come back when you've never really left. Personally I Love my recent projects, they're grown, they're rugged, they're sexy as hell! and they're available for you to offer as much kind/brutal anonymous feedback as you want. let me know what you think, here's the links.

Breez Evahflowin Information

1. Over feat. Swave Sevah & Shaneeka Harrell [FREE DOWNLOAD]

About the release: Now available for free download is the first single from Breez Evahflowin's upcoming album "Breez Deez Treez" to be released this Summer on Domination Recordings. Breez Evahflowin a founding member of the Stronghold underground rap collective, emerged as a leading force in the New York and national battle rap scenes during the late '90s and has gone on to work with some of the illest artists in the underground hip hop scene (including Vast Aire, Slug, Chali 2na & The Molemen). The exclusive single "Over" is produced by Dave "Daveytree" Archuletta and features guest lyrics from Harlem's very own Swave Sevah, named by The Source Magazine as "Best Unsigned Hype" of 2008.

About: Swave Sevah aka Swavy Krokett aka The Spitist, aka Anakyn Highwalker. Call him what you want, but once you hear this NYC native's unmistakable baritone and clever verses, you won't forget him. Born and raised in Harlem, Swave started spitting rhymes at the age of 9. He studied martial arts and earned black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan. As a young man, he dreamed of someday making it to the NBA, but that faded as his passion and talent for music grew. "Hip hop swallowed me whole," he says. Now Swave is one-third of the hip-hop group CVEES, who released their debut single "The Jump Off" in July of 2003. He also is a member of the underground wrecking crew Stronghold. Swave's gravelly freestyling won the world famous End of the Weak MC Challenge ..20, and along with rap partner-in-crime IkeP, Swave won the spitboxing tag-team battle at Club Pyramid. In 2005, he toured the United States with J Live, C-Rayz Walz and Vast Aire on the Best Damn Rap Tour. He also recently has been touring the world with Immortal Technique. 2008 was a big year for Swave after dropping high profile appearances on Vast Aire's "Duece's Wild", and Immortal Technique's "The Third World", he was crowned the Unisigned Hype from The Source magazine. With his ONG BOK and So Harlem mixtapes flooding the streets, the world will finally be ready for his solo debut "Hell Up In Harlem" produced in enitirely by Drum & Knowledge of Parallel Thought.

About: Shaneeka Harrell (Singer + Dancer) is a native of Miami, FL. where she attended New World School of the Arts. She continued her training at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, receiving an apprenticeship with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Co. in her final year. Shortly after completing her studies in 2001, she joined Jawole Willa Jo Zollar’s Urban Bush Women. After four seasons as a featured performer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Ms. Harrell is now focusing on her own work as an independent artist and has recently been named Choreographer in Residence at Bates College. "I give thanks for the blessing and grace to partake in the journey."

thank you mr. and mrs. DJ in every college with a radio station for the support on the Troublemakers LP so far. Thank you mr. and mrs. Blogger as well for helping us spread the word and the promo jams your support has been amazing. We've been going at this about as independent as it gets, "hollywood shuffle style" for my trueschoolers out there. Bout to start callin' in favors and actually call some people back. The most encouraging thing about this all so far is that most of this support is from the youth. I say this because we're grown men tryin' to make grown man music. I myself am at a place in my life where I find it harder and harder to find age-appropriate hip hop. So we set out to make an album for the "I don't listen to hip hop anymore" crowd. A legitimate genre of music should not be limited to an age range. Both Dutch and I have nothing to 'keep up with' except to continue to make music because that makes us what we are. I'd like to invite you all to check out more tracks at myspace.com/tmakers

with respect,
Breez

here are some of the reviews so far-

THE TROUBLE MAKERS INTEND TO RESSURECT HIP HOP
"What makes a record stand out? Usually it's the beats or rhymes that the producer and emcee respectively created, but sometimes a producer and emcee combine together and deliver an album, the type of record rappers are rarely known for. Perhaps it's because rappers don't do entire albums with one beat maker or maybe it's just because rap today has become a land of club singles and ring tones.

Whatever it is, Breez Evahflowin and Dirt E. Dutch have combined to form Troublemakers and if their self-titled first effort is any indication, they intend to cause even more problems for an industry that is already in trouble.

Knowing little about producer Dirt E. Dutch, his style is reminiscent of an era of classic producers utilizing drums that knock and samples that any good crate digger would be remiss not to add to his list of records to look for.

The rhyming half of Troublemakers, Breez Evahflowin, has been a staple of the NY underground for years as both a solo emcee and member of the unbeatable – and missing in action – collective Stronghold. Probably better known for guest verses and a 12-inch or two, here we get to finally see Breez stretch out and try some different styles and really show us why he hasn't given up on a career in this crazy industry: dude has skills.

Attacking the industry and those who challenge hip-hop's relevancy on "No Room for Growth," we see Breez team up with L.I.F.E. Long. The two emcees' chemistry is perfect and rather than it feeling like a competition of who can spit harder, it feels more natural and they try to build off each other.

Throughout the record, Dutch splices in audio clips from, I'm assuming, a combination of films, TV shows and records. These audio clips add to the content of Breez's rhymes and make it feel like a cohesive set of tracks rather than 12 random songs.

This album will satisfy that desire for some banging hip-hop while we wait for the industry to get back in gear and deliver some heat but, unfortunately, it may get forgotten by the end of 2008, and that would be a shame. Do what you have to to find this project, if for no other reason than to hear one emcee and one producer rock together in the vein of that traditional hip-hop sound."

"This duo bring more of a boom bap hip-hop style that really sounds good coming through the speakers. Lots of pop culture sound samples mixed in between tracks. Bangin'!"
-CJAM MUSIC REVIEW

"I haven't heard from this guy in a while, but I'm glad he's back! The ever talented Breez Evahflowin' has teamed up with producer Dirt E. Dutch to deliver (at least to my knowledge) the first new music from Breez in years! The CD, which isn't available in most stores, is another classic example of a sleeper. Virtually no promotion or marketing behind this, but the final product is dope. Check it out."

Breez Evahflowin hails from New York City, has spent many years creating his potent contribution to hip-hops legacy. A student of lyricism, Breez learned the value of cadence and wit at an early age from reciting the words of Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap. After Breez finished high school, where he honed his developing lyrical talent, he went on to pursue his musical dreams. Citizens of the hip-hop world caught their first taste of the Evahflowin effect by way of his independent release Forsaken. The buzz from this single took indie Hip-hop by storm, with Carlito Rodriguez, Former editor-in-chief of the Source magazine, hailing him as an artist who is nice with his (lyrics). Following his successful debut, Breez released a bevy of other independent smashes, such as the much praised I Heard It. The single received heavy rotation at the nations most popular stations, including Power 95 in Washington D.C., Q102 in Philadelphia and, of course, New Yorks own, Hot-97. He eventually secured a position as a co-host alongside of the Furious Five of the Hot-97 Mic Check Show in 1995. Breez then landed a role as the on-camera co-host of 88hiphop.com. He also had the opportunity to produce his own original hip-hop program for Urban Box Office. Going beyond the label of rapper, Breez uses every opportunity to represent hip-hop in all its forms. Im not lookin for a rap job, I want a hip-hop career! says Breez of his work ethic.
From appearances on BETs Rap City to his multiple wins in the Blaze Battle and being the first MC to ever win an MC Battle on NBC (Carson Daly show), Breez has created an unprecedented buzz in this competitive industry. Breez juggles his bubblin solo career with the demands of being a part of the eight-man squad of verbal assassins/Hip-hop entrepreneurs, STRONGHOLD. From performing the title music to X-Box games to providing talent for everyone from Viacom to Miller Brewing co., Breez and his STRONGHOLD partners provide.
Currently, Breez has several projects in the works. The Troublemakers LP a collaboration with producer Dirt E. Dutch (indiefeed.com) due out in December both online and CD versions. Breez Deez Treez with producers Davey Tree and Noah D. The Yes You project with producer Burt Fox and Breez is also back in the lab with producer Eric Krasno (Soulive, Fyre Dept) working on a follow up to the Mic and the Music EP.
Breez has also been busy over the last few years producing John Henry Radio. a free podcast sent via i-tunes chronicling his 10+ years of Hip-Hop Music.
