Current mood:  discontent
Category: News and Politics
Oct 10th

It is with a tinge of sadness that I am announcing that I have decided to leave Bobbie Peru. I've had the best part of 4 years with the band through several line-up changes and have been involved in writing/recording what I consider to be 2 great albums.

I will be playing shows with them up until the start of their U.S tour and at the time of writing there are just 2 left to play.

At this time I would like to thank everyone who has supported and/or helped the band during my time with them. Through being with Bobbie Peru I have met some fantastic people around the U.K, Europe and in the U.S. I'd especially like to thank the faithful fans whose faces I have seen at so many shows and my thanks also goes to The Fall; Black Francis; Spear Of Destiny and Ryan & Akilah who provided us with amazing touring experiences

I wish the band every success for the future.

Bobbie Peru

We're having to take a little break for a couple of weeks as Adam has recently had an operation on a detached retina. He's currently convallessing at home and we wish him a speedy recovery.

In the meantime the last 2 tracks for the album were recorded and mixed earlier this month.... the lp is yet to be mastered and the artwork is currently being designed. The re-scheduling of the LP launch has bought us a little extra time for last minute embellishments.

BP recently played 4 shows over in Europe, including a festival appearance in Belgium

Kin

Have played a few successful shows in the last month and as I type, the E.P is hopefully finished.

Aaak

Still in the studio working on re-recordings

June 29th.

it's been a while since I've updated this blog .......

Bobbie Peru
The U.S tour in April/May was deemed successful enough for us to start to book a 2nd visit out there in November this year ... dates have already started to come in.
Prior to that we'll be having a short trip to Europe in early August and I'm planning a U.K tour for October.
All of these dates will be in order to promote the release of the 2nd album 'Mutton Dressed As Lamb'. The album is pretty much complete, although I wouldn't rule out the possibility of an extra track or 2 sneaking its way on there in next couple of weeks.
During the trip to the U.S we had 200 limited promo versions of the LP pressed up for selling at gigs, a small quantity of these are still available from the BP myspace page and gigs.

AAAK 2009
I was recently approached by a German record label, Electric Tremor, about the possibility of releasing a 'Best Of' lp. This triggered off a chain of events that involved me successfully tracking down my ex-bandmates from AAAK. We are now to release a Collected Works album on Double CD. The album will contain the best tracks from our 2 official releases [digitally re-mastered] as well as a wealth of unreleased material that between us we have unearthed on tapes and DATs recorded back in the day. The working title at the moment is 'AAAK - The Collection 1987-1990'

The label have also invited us to play some shows in Europe at the end of the year - both Paul R and Brendan are keen to make this happen. As a result, I have been spending some of my spare time re=programming AAAK tracks from the era and re-recording some of them with a hint of 2009. The ongoing results from this can be heard up on AAAK's myspace page, which is now being treated to regular updates.

APRIL NEWS

On the 10th April my mum passed away after a relatively short illness. I'd known since January that she was ill and hence there have been a few cancellations of late and a lack of activity on mine and Bobbie Peru's pages.

Here's a bit of a catch up ......

Bobbie Peru U.S tour is HAPPENING AS LISTED

I will not be able to make the first 2 or 3 shows of the tour due to funeral commitments here at home. I'm looking forward to getting out and playing a tour's worth of shows though - a road trip may well be just the ticket for me right now

Bobbie Peru's 2nd lp has now been recorded ....final mixes are still ongoing, but the songs are all near completion.....a pre-release version will be onsale at shows on the forthcoming U.S tour.....

Track listing in no particular order

Swag Bag [ aka Friends In the Bank ]
25 Percent
Magpied
I Hate The Neighbours
Flower Power
Sadomasochist
Caustic Soda Pop
Carbon Dated [Radioactive]
Out Of Sight Out Of Mind
20 Stoner

KIN were recently interviewed in my absence and I'm led to believe the article runs in tonight's Manchester Evening News.........we're also playing at Chorlton Irish Centre at the Blowout night Tonight !!!!

NOVEMBER NEWS

30th

Bobbie Peru will be spending most of December writing and recording some new material for the 2nd album and preparing for live shows into next year.

The U.S tour will be happening and dates are currently being compiled for the 2nd half of April, hopefully I'll be posting them soon. We're also returning to Europe in August 2009, with a festival booking in Belgium, which we plan to sort a tour around ....will post dates as they are confirmed.

Other things are brewing in the background, including the possibility of some very interesting collaborations in the studio and on the road .... will tell all when I can

6TH
Well 'Trial By Fire' time for Adam is over and he's come through completely unscathed. In the last 10 days we've played gigs in the party madness of a Friday night in Amsterdam; the endearing charm of Manchester's Tiger Lounge and the overwhelming beauty that is Hackney Empire, one of London's oldest and certainly most beautiful theatres, where we were opening up for The Mighty FALL and appeared with that poetical genius that is John Cooper Clarke.

What's more exciting is that over the course of the last 6 gigs we've played, the new sound of Bobbie Peru has started to emerge to full effect. There's a new sharper edge to what we're doing, the rhythm section is more of unit and tight tight tighter.

We're planning a pre-Xmas lay-off from gig booking whilst we get in the studio for some recording and a bit of re-recording ...... the 2nd album is well underway and close to total conception.

2009 already looks rosy with the U.S tour already being planned, a European road trip also being penned, including at least one major festival appearance and most pleasingly a possible end to the self-administration ...... sorry if I sound smug, Im just a happy bastard on bass right now.

OCTOBER NEWS

15th
Here come the new Bobbie Peru. I've stuck up some rehearsal room recordings with new kit basher, Adam. Forgive the lo-fi quality, but it's just 2 mics up in the rehearsal room.

Our gig in Chorlton got cancelled due to an absconding landlord, so we're gonna play at the Tiger Lounge instead on Oct 28th ....... y'all are invited to come and check the new vibe

9th

Doctor E has parted company with Bobbie Peru.

We wern't supposed to be announcing this until after the forthcoming dates with The Fall, but the Doctor is uninclined to play those shows now and will be playing his farewell gig with us this Friday[10th] in Stockport. It's an amicable split that suits all parties and you should come along and buy the moody old git a drink :)

After that the new Bobbie Peru incarnation will be unleashed in Amsterdam on the 24th, with new boy Adam on the kit from there on ........ Mancunians can first catch the new lineup AT THE TIGER LOUNGE ON TH 28th ....... From the little I've seen and heard so far, this promises to be exciting times around Peru HQ !!

SEPTEMBER NEWS

13th - Bobbie Peru have been in the studio and recorded 3 tracks.... Magpied, Killing An Arab & Friends In The Bank [ much more like the version we play live ].

The video for 'I Hate The Neighbours' is complete and will be aired soon ..... a 'premiere' showing is being planned with a live performance to accompany it for sometime before we go to AMERICA !! .......12 dates have now been secured for an east coast U.S tour in November.

Our gigs with The Fall now include a show in Hove on November 2nd

Weds 17th is looming for me .....2 gigs in one night with 2 different bands. I'm playing Night & Day with Kin at 8-30 and then taxiing it to an old stomping ground of mine, Prestwich for a 10pm show with Bobbie Peru......anyone seen at both shows gets a pint off me

AUGUST NEWS

BOBBIE PERU -

15th Bobbie Peru feature in today's copy of the Manchester Evening News the article is
here

14th - The first dates in the U.S have been secured :)

13th - An as yet one-off gig in Amsterdam has been booked ..... hoping to accompany it with a couple more European dates round the same time.

On the 1st and 2nd of this month we filmed the video for I Hate The Neighbours. It was a fun and professional experience for us and I'd like to take this opporunity to thank everyone at GINESS TREE Productions for making this happen for us, especially the camera crew and Pete Garratt....... The little that we have seen assures us that the outcome is going to be fantastic........ expect to see the video sometime in October.
Bert & I conducted an interview with the David Sue of the Manchester Evening News on the 11th. It will be printed in Friday the 15ths edition of the paper.

JULY NEWS

BOBBIE PERU - A slow start to the month due to annual family holidays kicking in. However the second half of the month is proving to be most fruitful. New single, 'I Hate The Neighbours' is mixed and prertty much ready to go. 2 versions have been recorded, one with extra intro and outro stuff for the video which will accompany the single. To be filmed in the near future, this promises to be and exciting venture including roof top filmshoots in Liverpool and Manchester....... more info as and when

Two storming gigs over the last weekend have earned us a festival slot next month [tba] and a return gig at The Green Windmill for a night with Mancunian legend Clint Boon on the decks 21/08

Also happy to announce that once again moves are afoot to get Bobbie Peru into the U.S. This time we've hooked up with a fairly new U.S agency and hope to be able to announce some dates for around November time

KIN - Kin played a blinder of a show at Night & Day this month and were instantly asked to return in Sept. A few choice gigs are beginning to unfold and it's exciting times around the band. The LP Dot Dot Dot was mastered last week and is sounding emmense.

JUNE NEWS

Yeah, I've not updated this blog for a bit, so here's a bit of catch up.

Bobbie Peru now have a mixed live LP which will be available shortly. The album is made from recordings of shows from The Black Francis support tour in February, namely the gigs in Zurich & Brussels. During the next couple of weeks we're going to be recording some new songs, one of which is to have a video made around it, which will be shot during late July.

Cy-Berman - I have new track up on the page, which is based around the current nightmare that is Chapel Street Salford ...... Out my window I'm having to put up with the sounds of one building being demolished; one block of flats being built; major road works; the police constantly going up and down the street with sirens on and, most irritating of all, the sound of a water mains grid that is in serious need of repair constantly being driven over. All of these sounds, expecially that fucking grid, feature heavily in the track.

Kin - As you may have spotted I'm playing bass in an outfit called 'Kin', which is the brain child of the rather talented Kim Foster. Recently, in the studio, seven tracks have been recorded and she's having the finishing touches put to them over the next week or so. Some gigs are planned over the summer and this is definately something you readers should check out !!!

APRIL NEWS

Bert didn't a recent interview here ......unfortunately it's in French :)

Straight back to it after the tour then!!
Mixing is well and truly underway on the forthcoming live LP from Bobbie Peru. I've put some up on my page and expect to be completing it this month

MARCH NEWS
Most of this month has been dedicated to supporting The Fall at various places around the UK. We were fortunate to get more slots with The Fall than anticipated. This was due to the other support band being asked to leave the tour. The Fall shows also involved a few unprepared appearances by yours truly in the headline act. Mostly it was just to play a couple of songs giving The Fall a 2 bass sound. It was all good fun, as were our own shows are we were thankfully, reasonably well received by The Fall's fanbase, who are notoriously a 'difficult' crowd.

FEBRUARY - TOUR NEWS

Wow. Bobbie Peru are currently zipping round Europe with Black FRancis in our little white van, following their tour bus. Everything is going amazingly well, we're shifting loads of copies of Social Suicide at the shows and building up a nice European fan base and making some excellent contacts for the future. So far there hasn't been a bad show and at this stage the band is playing really and playing strongly. There have been a number of professional photographers at the shows and consequently we have several great new live shots . Here are some links:-

Fabrik - Hamburg

Den Atelier - Luxembourg

I'll update the list fully when I'm back on my own computer and have the time at home. In the meantime it's onward to Zurich, a city I've never been to.

JANUARY NEWS
21st I'm happy to announce that the legendary Mark E Smith has invited Bobbie Peru to open up for The Fall at a few of the shows on their forthcoming UK tour in March. We will be appearing with The Fall at Liverpool Academy 07/03; London, Astoria 12/03; Salford University 21/03 and at The Ferry in Glasgow 29th and 30th ...... Many thanks Mark.

17th
Bobbie Peru will be contributing 2 songs to a DIG NITTY Records sampler cd..... The tracks will be 'Friends In The Bank' and '25 Percent'. The plan is to have the sampler manufactured to co-incide with the forthcoming tour.

We are hopeful that further tour dates with another well known act will be announced very shortly !!!!!!

I will be making a guest appearance on bass for Manchester based singer/songwriter, Kin on January 27th at The Ruby Lounge. Kin fronts local band The Peterloo Massacre, also playing in her band is Howard, the drummer from those crazy Bottomfeeders. Check out Kins work here

HAPPY NEW YEAR
br>and we're off to a great start !!

7th:Bobbie Peru will be opening up for FRANK BLACK FRANCIS for most of his European tour in February. We are really excited about this and obviously looking forward to it and would like to take this opportunity to thank Charles for giving us this experience.

Bobbie Peru recorded a new tune over the Christmas Period , called 25 Percent..... it's up in the player now.

DECEMBER NEWS

16th ...... Bobbie Peru came No 1 in local radio show, 'Suck My Sound's playlist for 2007, with Swan Souffle .....check their page here

NOVEMBER NEWS

No news for November really, it's been a quiet month on all fronts. Bobbie Peru have been rehearsing & writing new tunes. We're going to be doing a vinyl 7" split release with American outfit, Slim Francis. That will be a new song [as yet undecided and unrecorded]. We're still in the midst of promoting Social Suicide, but the 3 of us are keen to get more new material into our set and remove all traces of the chubby baldness from the band's sound.

Cy-Berman has been active re-mixing Manchester band, Resist and soon to be working on a remix of another Manchester band, System Fault.

OCTOBER NEWS

22nd: I heard today that one of my biggest influences and all time heroes, Paul Raven, the bass player from Killing Joke [and recently of Ministry] has died of a heart attack. I'm very sad. I remember vividly meeting him as a kid in 1983 at The Hacienda in Manchester...... he invited me backstage to meet the band and they all autographed my entire KJ record collection, which was complete !!....... A truly talented guy with an amazing style and who took time out for his fans.... totally gutted

8th

Today the album finally arrived !!!!! Social Suicide finally came back from the manufacturers and it looks and sounds great. The finished version of Bobbie Perus lp contains 13 songs printed on to pure black vinyl effect cds and comes with a full colour 16 page cd booklet containing all the lyrics, so you can sing-a-long. We've had it barcoded too, so you can expect to see it in shops near you soon or please feel free to order one from BPs page

On the 5th BP played in Amsterdam, our first visit to foreign soils. What a bloody good do it was too, hopefullt to be repeated in the near future

SEPTEMBER NEWS

21st ....... Winger has left Bobbie Peru !!
After weeks of speculation and behaving like a right prima donna, Chris has moved on from Bobbie Peru to persue his own ego-fuelled project. Unfortunately he chose to do this in a totally dishonourable fashion, leaving before fulfilling agreed gig commitments. BP will now be performing a very slightly altered set as a 3 piece outfit, the first performance of which was last night at DRY bar.

CY-Berman [my alter-ego] has re-mixed Broken Bones in a dancefloor fashion. As the re-mix will not be on Social Suicide .....we're giving it away here and on Cy-Berman's myspace page

14th ..... Finally after last minute additions and last minute re-mixes and a total remastering session, 'Social Suicide', Bobbie Peru's debut lp is finished ..... I am currently holding the master copy in my hand. It's off to be pressed now, though I fear, not in time for it's launch party, but we'll see.....very happy with it.

AUGUST NEWS

29th - I hooked up with Josh very briefly on Sunday whilst he played with The Chilli Peppers at Leeds Festival ..... Amazing stuff and quite a trip... chatting to someone, who has to run off every now and then to play to about 50,000 people who are going wild and then calmly returning to continue the conversation at the side of the stage !! .....it inspired me to write a new Hired Help track (Feeling Graceless) .....up in the player.......... there's a chance Josh & i will hook up again in a couple of weeks ( I'll believe it, when it happens)

JULY NEWS

Fucking wow !!!! What the hell else can I say ??? I've just finished 5 weeks on the road with Frank Black!!! There's no way a lousy paragraph here can sum the experience up ........ It's been totally amazing, not least cos of the contraversial way Frank did his show. His fans are all split down the middle in a totally beautiful way ....they either loved what we did or absolutely hated it !!! ..... punk as fuck ..

Possibly the most intense tour I've ever worked on , the itinery was relentless and the gigs just got faster and faster and faster.

As time goes on I will update my beloved page with bits that I think worthwhile, but for now, if you care , please check out the following links to get a taste of what I've just done ( man reading this back, it sounds so up my own arse, but fuck it , I don't care)

Skippy, the drummer's blog
Charlie, the guitarist's blog

These 2 guys are two of the coolest guys on this planet .....and I'm from Manchester for fucks sake!

Frank Black's live review forum

Not everyone here loves me .....but FBs fans are the real deal and to the ones that have bothered to write nice things; shake my hand; take my photo; give me weed; buy me a drink etc ...... I salute you and say thanks again

Final link ------ go to You Tube and type Frank Black 2007 as a search .

Anyway, I'm home now .... I spent an extra day in London to see The Fall 2 nights on the trot at Islington Academy ( a personal fave venue ....this is where PJ Harvey saw me playing with The Fall and offered me a tour ) and had a fantasitically funny day with Mark E and Jimmy Fennings which was a most perfect end to my recent high .....and tomorrow I play in Fallowfield with Bobbie Peru. Whilst away the BP album was mastered and as I type this I'm listening to the finished version for the 2nd time ......and yes, I am a happy lucky bastard ........ I KNOW !!!!!!!! .

MAY NEWS

May 31st
PERSONAL: Landed back in the U.K on Weds morning...severly suffering from jet-lag and consequently exhibiting signs of narcolopsy.......a most pleasant and rewarding trip though. Rehearsals went well and the first gig was ok ....much room for improvement on my part. I had the weird experience of going to watch Bobbie Peru perform at the Ti ger Lounge last night with my stand-in playing bass.
May10th
HIRED HELP : Major congratulations to Josh on his new job ......your cv must read like a who's who of cool as fuck bands mate :)

May7th
BOBBIE PERU : I did my last gigs with BP for a while over this last weekend ..... temporary leave on a bit of a high too ......2 stormingly fast and intense shows in Manchester. I'll be with the band to put the finishing touches to the album some time next week.

Bought myself a new bass (Fender Jazz) this week, supposedly as a back up , but I might end up using her instead of my trusty Precision .....ooh the difficult decisions I have to make.

APRIL NEWS
April 2nd - BOBBIE PERU : BP recorded 2 more songs for the forthcoming album last Sunday ( Bon Bon Rue & Broken Bones) ......no doubt the end results will end up on the page before too long. The Peruvians are busy auditioning my temp this week

MARCH NEWS:

March 26th : (It's my birthday today) Dates for Frank Black's summer tour have started apprearing on his page ....so I've added 'em here too......am very busily learning his tunes in my spare time at the moment.
March 13th :
PERSONAL NEWS - I am most happy to say that I shall be touring, playing bass for Pixies front man Frank Black this summer. Dates are yet to be confirmed.

BOBBIE PERU - It's on, it's off ........ After a momentary confusion, both of BPs London shows will be going ahead this week.

FEBRUARY NEWS :

26th PERSONAL NEWS - It would appear to be 99% certain that I will be playing bass for yet another MAJOR artist on tour this year .....I don't wanna say anymore for now, other than that I am very excited about the opportunity.... I will post more news as and when things are confirmed ........ It DOESN'T mean that I am leaving BOBBIE PERU !!!!!

25th
BOBBIE PERU - The promo video for 1971, which was put together by Carl at Seven/Seven Productions is finished and we think it's amazing, it looks like this

The album is now recorded, but not yet fully mixed ( there may be a couple of late additions too, as we have recently written 2 new tracks and may get to record them in time.

16th
Bobbie Peru's album is moving along quite nicely and the odd mix or 2 willl be appearing up on this page every now and then. The video for 1971 is stil being put together and is expected for the beginning of March. It's a bit of a quiet month as we have no gigs til March...... rehearsals have so far produced 2 new tracks, which we are hopeful to be unveiling at the gigs in March.

There is other stuff going on, but it's not yet for public consuption ...watch this space ;)

JANUARY NEWS :

Happy New Year to you all.... Bobbie Peru are slowly but surely stringing together a few dates for March time, including 2 evenings in London, who are proving to be an apprciative audience. At this time we won't be playing in Manchester til March either. On the 4th & 5th of January we started the recording of what will be our first album...... we recorded the drums and bass for 7 songs...... the guitars and vocals are scheduled to be recorded over the next few days.

DECEMBER NEWS:

21/12 If you're reading this, then Happy Christmas to you. Latest stuff is all BOBBIE PERU. We played London on the 16th, was probably the best gig we've done so far..... earned us a return visit, even though we only pulled 5 people in ourselves.

The studio dates have been set as 4th and 5th of January for recording the drums for the BP album. Re-recording is being done to capture the songs with their correct tempos and intensity. Am getting my friend Christophe to do the engineering for us, so I can concentrate on bass playing.
We are all eagerly anticpating the arrival of the video for 1971 ( being done by seven/seven productions) ....we're being told early in the new year...t;http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/dingobass/bp-phone.gif">
04/12 BOBBIE PERU: Just had a whole weekends worth of Bobbie activity. Friday we went for a photo shoot round the streets of Manchester. Saturday we were in the studio recording 2 new songs :- BF Skinner & Burning In Hindsight ( I 've sneaked a preview of BF Skinner into the player) and Sunday we spent shooting the video for 1971 .....which involved us getting many strange looks from the good people of Salford ....our prop list was a little unusual ....... the results should be back with us in a fortnight or so.

02/12 THE HIRED HELP: Yahoooooooooo 'On Holiday By Mistake' is FINISHED . I've spent the last few days finishing off the tracks and am now working on the final running order and adding a couple of samples here and there, but the songs are done ....... now to find a label for it.

NOVEMBER NEWS:
20/11 BOBBIE PERU have had a couple of reviews from recent gigs - they can be found in another entry on this blog. BP will be going into the studio on 2nd ..o record 2 new tracks which they've recently incorporated into their live set - 'BF Skinner' & 'Burning In Hindsight'. The video for 1971 is to be shot on Dec 3rd.

THE HIRED HELP's album 'On Holiday By Mistake' is now very close to completion. After spending a few weeks away from working on the material, I have, after recently seeing Josh, been inspired to get it finished before Christmas. The track listing for the finished album is most likely to be as follows :-

01 Dutch Cap ( formerly known as The Noose)
02 An Incorrect Key
03 Thrutching
04 Plagurism
05 Super Geese ( formerly known as Make Her Smile Twice)
06 Last Night Of Your Life
07 Fluid
08 In The Beginning
09 True Or False
10 I Know Who You Are
11 Bretchian Nightmare

10/11 BOBBIE PERU will be recording a video for 1971 in the early part of December, details are all vague at present....more as it comes.

The Hired Help had a joyous and brief reunion when Gnarls Barkley played Manchester last week. Josh's commitments with them go on up to probably April 07, with the slim possibility of him returning to the UK for a week after that to do some more stuff ...... again more as it comes ...... but it was good to Josh again and see him action on the keyboards looking like a Scorpions reject !!

OCTOBER NEWS: 27/10 Bobbie Peru's single is now out !!! and available in shops around the NW of the U.K. You can order it for a measily £3 via the Bobbie Peru homepage Just found 6 videos on You Tube featuring yours truly playing with PJ Harvey at various gigs from the 2004 world tour ...... put links in the relevant blog entry here.

15/10 AAAK Reunion (almost) . Last night I went to an old old friends birthday party and purely by chance found myself in a room with 2 of my old colleagues from As Able As Kane ..... Brendan & Carl. A heavily drink fuelled reunion session kicked in and I was reminded of some of the maddest times of my life and some of the fantastic parties that I used to throw at my old studio in Bury...... most of which I had completely forgotten about until reminded .......now I MUST track down Paul R.

13/10 BOBBIE PERU ....... will be releasing a 7" single in the near future ....watch this space for details

10/10 : A big, big thanks to Kez and a massive big up to TAXI Magazine for taking some excellent photos of Bobbie Peru hard at work in Oldham last Friday. Click here to view the photos

06/10 : Caught up with Josh on a night off from Sparks gigs. No work was done, but we did get extremely fucked up and found curry at 3.30am ...... Happy Birthday mate !.

Bobbie Peru are now planning on recording an album in January ....most tracks are already written.....everything is getting re-recorded seeing as Dr E has a big big big new drum kit.
..yman2.gif">

SEPTEMBER NEWS:Actually got hold of the elusive Klinghoffer in the last couple of days. Looks like a November get together might happen. Gnarls Barkley play the apollo on Nov 3rd. The pair of us were on TV 2 nights ago on BBC 4 ......once again the PJ Harvey gig at St Lukes was aired....how young I looked .....2 years of shit is beginning to show. Writing this after waste of space gig in Liverpool....pizza was good though.....What exactly did i do so wrong in my past life (lives).....anyway all 6 of the audience loved it tonight!!

I have changed the direction of this page away from it just being about The Hired Help. Recently nothing has happened with the project and I am concentrating on other things. It doesn't by any means the end of The Hired Help, just a pause in it. This page will now carry news on the more exciting of the projects I am involved, like Bobbie Peru and Cy Berman.

Bobbie Peru played in London earlier this month . There's a video of Luke Wakes Up on the main page ......and here's a couple more for anyone who has been bothered to read this.

AUGUST NEWS:
26th ..... Bobbie Peru played a rather eventful gig at The Castle on Oldham Street. During playing 1971 the entire audience engaged in a brawl. It was bonkers to watch a gang of tracksuits vs a gang of punks going at it with pool cues. Like true pros we finished the song before getting the fuck off the stage.
JOSH KLINGHOFFER is on tour again. He's currently playing keys for Gnarls Barkley and guitar for Sparks.........what a whore!. Possible plans for a get together in the next couple of weeks. Will believe it when I see it

BOBBIE PERU currently recording 2 new songs .... just drums to do ....how typically backwards is that!

BP have obtained a sweet Showcase gig at London's famous Hope & Anchor, which is a classic punk venue ( Stranglers 1976 !!!! ) . This gig now has even more relevance as we've just been offered and are likely to accept a publishing deal. The idea is now to get the elusive record deal. Any of you reading this based in the big smoke, please come down and make up the numbers .....we promise to make it one of those 'I swear I was there gigs' . 2006 is becoming the year of Peru

JULY NEWS :

Unfortunately the planned get together with Mr Klinghoffer couldn't happen ...once again he is mixing with the biggest names and this time ..s !!!. Good luck mate!! .... see you on tele soon

Cy Berman : Cos the Hired Help is hard to make happen, I"m kinda at a loose end creatively. So I'm gonna spend some time concentrating on the dancier side of what I do. I'm going to be working under the name Cy Berman and I would think it's safe to say that Worm Food II and We Came To Think To You are my first 2 tracks under that moniker. Myspace page is now online. See my top 8.

BOBBIE PERU : More bad news. The American tour which was supposed to be happenning looks like it's off. Down to?. The kind of bullshit that I thought we only found in the U.K. Scam artist promoter. This one goes by the name Adam Knight and be warned he is actively targeting U.K indie- type bands. Anyone who has a contact from him should send me a private message and I will happily tell you the score with him.

Current mood:  satisfied
1. Finding stuff like this randomly on the internet

"Simon Archer struck the kind of too-cool poses we haven't seen since Paul Simonon retired"

I didn't make that up ....it's from here

and this

PJs backup band couldn't have been hotter. Her bass player, Simon Archer laid down an incredibly solid bottom for Harvey's bass heavy song riffs. When PJ played the song "Victory" as the fourth number for the show, Acher's bass strap broke. Archer played the rest of the song down on one knee, holding the bass up on his other knee. The bass riff on that song never lets up, so he didn't have a chance to put on another bass guitar with a more reliable strap. At the end of the song when PJ saw he was down on one knee, she dropped to one knee with her guitar to keep him company until the song ended. Priceless.

Whats even better about that one, is that if you read it all ..... here....the writer for some reason has Ben Pritchard [of The Fall] mistakenly playing , instaead of Josh Klinghoffer .....for me that is posssibly the funniest thing I've read all year ...

Here's a recent interview I did

When you started to play and sing?

I started playing bass at the age 14. At 19 I learnt all the studio side of things and
music programming. I've never sang really. I know I cant..... if anything I've talked
and shouted on a few tracks.

Who bought your first bass?

Birthday present from my mum ;)

which was the first album that you bought?

The Stranglers - 'No More Heroes'

When you started to make music?

I formed the first band I was in at the age of 15. It funnily enough had the same drummer
as I am playing with now in Bobbie Peru. It was a goth band called 'Ten Day Trial' . I was the
bass player in them. I suppose I didn't start totally making music until I learnt how to work
the studio with my band then, which was an industrial outfit called 'AAAK or As Able As Kane' .
We put records out in the UK, U.S and the Benelux countries

speak about the music concept of your songs

I find that you can never stop learning, I really try never to do the same thing twice and spend
a fair bit of time working with the sounds rather than the song. I like my music to provoke a reaction,
even if it is hated, rather than ignored background noise.

where you find inspiration for this?

My moods ....which are varied. I can be an angry composer ..... I also tend to write a lot when
I am worried about something, its a good distraction

What you can say about the creation process?

It is very intermittent. Some tracks can be done in 2 or 3 days, others can take months ...... I wish
I could find a pattern to it, but I haven't yet. I do know when a song is 'done' though.

where do you record your songs?

I have my own studio ( 6dB Studio )

What do think about this music generation? and the past generation?

This generation needs to make a new noise and fast. The UK scene is totally littered with clone
bands and retro respect ....it's going round and round in circles and I personally, am totally bored of it.
I think every decade from the fifties until 2000 has produced great leaps forward in creativity and content, but since 2000 there has been very little NEW music.

who are your influences?

There are loads ..... I put a full list on my MySpace page, but the main ones would be The Stranglers ,
Killing Joke, BT, Nine Inch Nails, FOETUS, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242

when and where will be your next perfomances?

Well, The Hired Help isn't gigging ........ Josh can be seen playing with Gnarls Barkley and Sparks at the moment. I'm playing with a UK band called Bobbie Peru. We are regularly playing round the UK, the next show is Sept 23rd in Blackpool

how did you meet Josh?
how is your relationship with him?
how was the hired help born?

Josh and I played together in PJ Harvey's touring band of 2004. We got on really well and have a lot in common musically, so when we had time off in Manchester, where the studio is, we started to put a couple of tracks down. Since touring was over we've managed to get together again a couple of times to add more material. It's difficult though, Josh lives in L.A and I live in England, with no record label to fund it, we have to work when ever the opportunity crops up. We both bring ideas so that we can save time. The Hired Help was the obvious name for us, because we had both been working in other people's bands ... PJ Harvey , Moris Tepper ....me in The Fall, Josh
in Beck etc. We called the album 'On Holiday By Mistake' because it was a quote from a film we both love ,'Withnail & I' and because it also meant on holiday from other people's bands

some country that you never played that you would like to go?

Peru ......... with a couple of days off either side

dingo is....... the one with time to answer interviews

josh is...... proving harder and harder to get hold of

life(speak about)

its way too short and totally unpredictable. It's something that I feel I've been lucky with, but I know I have wasted bits of it. I don't have regrets, I have achieved quite a lot of what I set out to, but there is still more to come and I am looking forward to it eagerly.

love(speak about)

hmmm.......... not my favourite subject, though without it I wouldn't have written what I consider to be my best pieces of work. Love is something that I have had no luck with at all. I am a difficult person to live with, my hours are varied and I get restless very easily. Not many people can keep up with me and I know I am a poor romantic. Maybe one day.
