Shopping list for spring: rich, intricate detail... awesome, rare colors... silky, light fabric...

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

It feels like a new year really begins at spring. Who better than Audrey Hepburn to look for inspiration during a wardrobe change?

All of these photos are recent--from 2007 except the one of Nora Zehetner. I get alot of inspiration from models' style as you can see. Because of their job, all of their outfits are comfortable and effortless. But obviously always stylish and just beautiful! They have an eye for unique pieces as well.

If you've watched How to Steal a Million (1966) with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, you know what I mean when I say "togetherness".

I've been looking through the Spring 2007 runway show photos at style.com and I see alot of inspiration from the 20s and the 70s. I am definitely not one to be obsessed with trends. I prefer to find what fits me and my personality but I'll hear about the trends and take them if I like them. Such as satin is the fabric to have for spring 2007--I like that (very 20s by the way). And then these long 70s-inspired dresses with billowly sleevse have appeared on the runway.

Jane Birkin is an actress and singer. Birkin emerged in the swinging 60s in London, starring as one of the models in the controversial film Blow Up in 1967. In 1968, Birkin went to France to audition for the lead female role in Slogan. Though she did not speak French, she got the role. In 1969, she and Serge Gainsbourg released the song "Je t'aime... moi non plus" ("I love you... me neither"), written by Gainsbourg and featuring both of them singing. She starred oppositie Brigitte Bardot in 1973. She also starred in Gainsbourg's first film. Birkin has starred in the Agatha Christie films Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun, and recorded several great albums. She has obtained in the category Female Artist of the year in France the Victoires de la Musique award in 1992 . Jane Birkin's humanitarian interests led her to work with Amnesty International, on immigrant welfare and AIDS issues. Birkin has also visited Bosnia, Rwanda. and Palestinian Territories, often working with children. She was married from 1965 until 1968 to the famous film composer John Barry with whom she has a daughter, the photographer Kate Barry. Afterwards she had a very passionate and creative relationship with her mentor Serge Gainsbourg . They divorced in 1980 but Jane continued to be his absolute muse until his death . Their daughter is Charlotte Gainsbourg . In 1982 she gave birth to her third daughter, Lou Doillon from her marriage with the director Jacques Doillon. She has made musical collaborations and duets with artists such as Feist , Beth Gibbons from Portishead , Bryan Ferry , Brian Molko from Placebo , Franz Ferdinand , Manu Chao , Brett Anderson from Suede , Mickey (3d) , Françoise Hardy , Cali , The Divine Comedy , The Magic Numbers , Paolo Conte , Beck, Rufus Wainwright , Yann Tiersen , Alain Souchon , Les Negresses Vertes , Johnny Marr from The Smiths , Zazie , MC Solaar , Yosui Inoue , Étienne Daho , Alain Chamfort , Jimmy Rowles , Goran Bregovic ,Sonny Landreth and many others.

Trivia: She is noted for being the inspiration for fashion house Hermès popular Birkin Bag after the actress was seen struggling with several bags while boarding an aeroplane.

Here's some of my cut-outs from magazines:

I've taken an interest in skirts starting yesterday. Skirts. (I'm not talking about the denim mini which everyone knows who to wear.) Hardly anyone wears them anymore. Everyone is either wearing a dress or skinny jeans. Wear a skirt, and you'll pretty much instantly stand out.

Skirts are harder to style though. And your outfit will probably cost more compared to a dress outfit. But knee-length skirt or floor-length, you can put together a comfortable and chic outfit. To wear a skirt casually, you can follow the lead of Kirsten Dunst and Keira Knightley and just wear a casual tee on top. (See photo collage below.) For a dressier occasion, find a stand-out skirt and pair it with a relatively plain neutral-colored top (see Chloe Sevigny and Rachel Bilson). Funk it up with a bright pair of flats (Mischa Barton and Mary-Kate Olsen) or add a cute, vintage purse (Zooey Deschanel). Feel free to define your waist more by adding a belt like Selma Blair, Kirsten Dunst, and Rachel Bilson. However you decide to put together your outfit, have fun with it and feel unique!
