Just 4 months after the June release of A Kick in Falling Away, Wooden Nickle to digitally release their second LP of 2008: Feed and Seed (Borrowdeer)

A collection of dusty, well-worn Nickle classics are pulled from the archives to celebrate Wooden Nickle's appearance at CMJ's Portland Festival, October 24th at the Knitting Factory in New York City.

Matthew Boney, Jeff Simmons and various other wildly talented collaborators bring out the very roots of the Nickle: Feed and Seed reaches all the way down to the nascent traces of Boney and Simmons' work in Portland circa Y2K (remember when the world was about to end?).

Like an Obama sticker on John McCain's tour bus, Wooden Nickle show the cracked side of popular music and offer a peek behind the curtain of what's become a folk-country-electronic-psychedelia hybrid all their own.

Feed and Seed:

1. Overture
2. Imaginary Individual
3. Into Dusk
4. No Mame

5. Bare Wood Floors
6. Kid
7. Epiphany
8. Hubris

WOODEN NICKLE DEBUT RELEASE VIA BORROWDEER.COM JUNE 16TH

Freak-folk's over. Over and dead. Devendra's got big, then bigger, then moved onto other worlds. Nu-psychedelic folk doesn't feel so new anymore. What else? Oh yeah, indierock's become a joke. Country music's become a tool of the Red Staters. Crazy Horse, RIP. George Harrison, o'dead. This strange, raw, twisted, new century is a time of turmoil—and it's a time of change. Movements rage up boldly, then flicker out. Next Big Thing's go cold as corpses. Now from the stew and mess and multi-colored chaotic gumbo comes Wooden Nickle and their great new record, A Kick in Falling Away (Borrowdeer).

Recorded in Portland, Oregon but brought to life in Brooklyn's thriving experimental music scene (see: Castanets, Dirty Projectors, Phosphorescent, etc), A Kick in Falling Away is a new folk-country-electronic-psychedelia hybrid good enough for ol' Shaky himself, but more in line with crazy-horrible-beautiful life circa summer 2008.

Matthew Boney (vocals, lead guitar, piano), Jeff Simmons (vocals, guitar, laptop, stylo and xylophones), Chris Hutton (drums), Kyle Delamarter (laptop), and various wildly-talented friends/collaborators give us a blazing, white-hot, 12-track piece of American music; American like '70s Dylan (see: Street Legal), American like delta blues, like Big Star and Wilco and Tom Petty and the Boss himself.

But where Bruce and his E. Street boys go for the straight-up, W.N. go for the straight up with the crooked, the sideways swingin', and—sometimes—the totally effing cracked. This is avant-country, tripped-out folk, and weirdo ballads. It's anthems, but it's anthems set squarely in absurd-as-hell 2008. (If you catch some epic White Album vibe from this, you're not off base.)

A Kick in Falling Away is, above all, a pop record, but pop in the finest (weirdest) sense.

Behold the NEW psychedelic rock. Everything is over. Everything is old. Everything is broken. Wooden Nickle are the new guys. Behold the future. – Adam David
