Some serious shredding from Arlan and Dave Bryce on this one! If you're a YouTube user, rate & comment and subscribe/add Keyboard Mag as your friend
www.youtube.com/keyboardmag1

Join Robbie Gennet, Arlan Schierbaum, Dave Bryce and ace drummer Eli Hludzik as they test out a badass bunch of phaser pedals on vintage Hammond organ, Wurlitzer and Rhodes electric pianos and even bass guitar! The Stompbox Garage series is produced for Keyboard Magazine and these jam videos are an extra bonus so you can hear the pedals we have reviewed. By using them in real life musical situations, we can assess their musicality and usability. After all, if you can't use it, why bother?

We had a great group of Phaser pedals including Moog, TC Electronics, Soundblox, Line6, Behringer, Electro-Harmonix, MXR, Pigtronix and more. There will be many more upcoming segments so stay tuned and feel free to comment and share! See the official Stompbox Garage episodes at www.keyboardmag.com

Current mood:  adventurous
Fusing jazz and classical, piano and synths, the 22-year-old Russian pianist has taken the world by storm. He granted Keyboard an exclusive interview for our upcoming Sept 2009 issue, and in these masterclass videos, he demonstrates his blazing chops and lends suggestions on how you can blaze like this, too.

Come check out the very first episode of Stompbox Garage! Join Keyboard contributors Robbie Gennet, Dave Bryce, and Arlan Schierbaum in this new video series. Each month, they'll put a different category of pedal effects through its paces, with a focus on sweetening - and sometimes mangling - vintage keyboards!

For our maiden voyage, we decided to compare all comers in that most funky of categories: the wah-wah. And what's a wah without a Clavinet? For that matter, what's a Clav without a wah? We'll leave such weighty questions to the philosophers, preferring instead to answer the more immediate question: If you want real analog wah to funk up your keyboard sounds, which one should you buy? We hope you have as much fun watching this show as we did making it!

We hope you'll check em out, rate & comment and reply with some video responses of your own. Here's a clip featuring some freaky funk from Arlan and Robbie:

Keyboard Magazine put together three discriminating keyboard wizards to check out the latest wah-wah pedals on the market. Dave Bryce, Arlan Schierbaum and Robbie Gennet hooked ten wah-wah pedals up to vintage Clavinet, Rhodes and Wurlitzer keyboards and put them to the test in the Stompbox Garage. And just to make sure the real world application is up to par, they enlisted ace drummer Ryan Brown for an all out wah-wah jam! These jams are bring posted on the Keyboard Mag Youtube page as they happen, while you can see episodes of Stompbox Garage starting this Summer at www.keyboardmag.com

In the next episodes, we'll do comparisons of the latest phasers, delays, choruses, flangers, tremolos, vibratos, reverbs and a whole lot more! Stay tuned...

Keep jammin!

Keyboard Magazine's inside man Robbie Gennet was granted access to the Rhodes Piano factory on May 14, 2009 to get the first scoop on the new Rhodes electric pianos! There has been more mystery surrounding the new Rhodes than a Wonka Factory full of Oompa Loompas, but it's time to take a first look at what lies beyond those hallowed doors.

"They're incredible," says Gennet. "I own 7 vintage Rhodes and Fender Rhodes electric pianos, so I have a good basis for comparison. The new Mark 7 is beyond the "real deal" - Joe Brandstetter and his crew have not just replicated the past but really crafted the finest model Rhodes yet, right down to the grommets. And like those of us Rhodians who hoard our remaining parts, I was almost salivating seeing thousands of fresh tines, pickups and hammers ready for the new Rhodes. And yes, there will be tines available for your older Rhodes, people- and I've been told they won't be nearly as expensive as those in the aftermarket parts market. Imagine that!"

Here's the link~ there are 11 videos online, so sit back and prepare for a thorough tour through the Rhodes Factory with Keyboard Magazine:

If you went to one of the simultaneous Producers' Conference events around the world this past Saturday (May 9), you saw what we saw, and your jaw probably dropped just as far.

Well, we got up close and rolled tape. We have exclusive one-on-one demos with Propellerhead product guru Gerry Bassermann about Record, Propellerhead's new multitrack audio recording software. We'll have these clips embedded in this page in our own player in a day or so, but for now, head to Keyboard's YouTube page and check em out!
