Here's a review from the folksters at Penguin Eggs. Oh hey, I'm opening for Dead Prez tomorrow! Rad.

Charlotte Cornfield - Collage Light

"Montreal's Charlotte Cornfield understands the importance of an examined life. Collage Light captures fragments of the human experience and creates a musical mosaic. From the passage of time, scattered coffee grinds, shadows, love and actor Humphrey Bogart, Collage Light is a collection of well-crafted indie-pop songs.
The Pages is a meta-poetical ode to life's various chapters. Someday (To the Birds) alludes to a songwriter repairing her heart after the walls have been torn down. Haunt of Mine is an ode to lost love, building on a larger narrative. The Colour kicks up Cornfield's rock 'n' roll sensibility, while Canadian regional representation arrives in North of Superior. Humphrey Bogart closes the album with the famous line - 'here's looking ar you, kid' - portraying a tale of growing older and into oneself."

It's July and the Montreal sky is angry.

It spits and howls at pedestrians and cyclists and wandering jazz musicians and snatches umbrellas from the hands of the innocent....

It's good to be back home.

The tour was wild. My scattered brain is piled high with stories so let me know if you want to hear about weird and wonderful things.

Collage Light is up up up on iTunes so for those of you who don't have the privilege of being in the extreme weather test zones of Montreal and Toronto, check out that old and faithful iTunes store and for the incredible low price of ------okay, I know, just check it out!

I'll be playing my first show back in the dear maple leaf forever (That would be Canada) in Montreal on July 22nd at the Green Room with pop maestro Laurent Bourque and the insanely wonderful Peter Nevins.
I will be joined by the indelible (what does that even mean) Noah Barer on the drums and King Tall Stephen Tchir on miscellaneous instruments. This will be my last show with Steve for a long while as he is returning to his prairie homeland to learn to share his great knowledge with community youth (i.e. going to teacher's college)
Come give him a last hurrah!

I'll also be opening for the great Leif Vollebekk on July 30th at Quai des Brumes.

And in the drum department, I'll be behind the kit with Bent By Elephants at Club Lambi on July 12th and in the Santropol Garden in the early evening on the 30th.

That's July for now!

Enjoy the rain if you're around where I'm around. If not, tell the sun I say hi!

That's all for now.

-Charlotte Cornfield

p.s. get Collage Light!

Hello from sunny Winnipeg - only for today.

Rivers over concrete.

From long nights on buses, badlands, and bad cities.

Shattered glass, fish behind glass, gas station attendants behind glass.

Tall glass buildings and short wooden ones.

Beds of all shapes and sizes.
People of all.......bodies and minds.

From

dive bar
        big park stage
flower festival
            cafe corner
rock club
         record store
abandoned house

inner radio

flaming feet

tangled up in cords and chords.

Friday, April 17, 2009

My new EP 'Collage Light' is finished, and some fresh tracks will be posted in the next few days!

The record will be released on Thursday May 14th at The Green Room in Montreal.

'Collage Light' is 6 original tunes recorded in Montreal this past winter in collaboration with Stephen Tchir, Noah Barer, Daniel Foreman-Mackey and Etienne Pouliot, and featuring special guests Boris Paillard, Peter Nevins and Leif Vollebekk.
The album was recorded and mixed by Etienne Pouliot and mastered by Cristo Tapia at Troublemakers.

After the Montreal release date, I'm heading out on a 1.5 month North American tour with The Keys(www.myspace.com/sirobandthekeys), with
Collage Light in tow. Check out tour dates for details.

The record will soon be available on iTunes and at various record
stores all over.

Exciting stuff!
