Lots of stuff to catch up on and there's really no excuse for my absence either. I just wasn't in the mood to blog lately. But I'm back and I want to start of with a big thank you to my PRGE pal who sent me a great package with a wonderfully soft skein of handspun alcapa, the new Fall Interweave Knits, 4 oz of hemp roving to try out, and a whole slew of other little goodies. I also have to say thank you to CJ for the wonderful package for the spinning roving swap. I have been doing some knitting and crocheting as well. I finished this capelet from Wrap Style but also available for download from Interweave here. I modified it a little by adding 2 extra of the flowery looking pattern at the bottom so that it was longer. I made it out of 1 skein of Lorna's Laces Fishermans wool. I lost the band so I'm not sure what the colorway is. It's a 100% wool but it's super soft and I can't wait to work with this stuff again! Found the button at JoAnn's. I also finished my clapotis. It's exactly as the pattern called for. And it's made out of Plymouth Royal Bamboo, 7 skeins. I absolutely love this yarn and this pattern. Well, there's a lot more but at least this is something for now. I'm still playing ketchup. I'm thinking of maybe having a contest since I've been so lame in my blogging lately. Keep your eyes peeled for that.

Ever been curious about what's so fascinating about spinning? Been spinning for a while and own several wheels? Have you never tried a drop spindle in your life, but been wanting to? CJ and I were bitten by the spinning bug and have not been able to put our spindles down since Lambtown. We came up with the idea of a roving swap to share the obsession joy. Here's the deal: You can find all the details and how to sign up here: Spinning Roving Swap

I've been so busy this week I haven't had time to post about all the cool craftiness going on. I've been in physical therapy twice this week for my knitting injured arm! Plus a dentist appointment, a migraine, and a neurologist appointment, I've barely been able to keep up. Last Friday was UFO night at Commuknity. It was a pajama party! Lots of fun. Then Saturday, CJ and I went to Lambtown in Dixon and had a blast! I got my first spindle and have started spinning some Corriedale puffs I got there. I also got some BFL and some merino to try spinning. I also got a great deal on 900+ yards of a beautiful purple mohair. I also have to mention Albert the Alpaca bear that I splurged on. He was just so soft and cudley and he called to me and I couldn't resist that cute little face. When I got back home from Lambstown I had a package from my KSKS swap pal waiting on me! My pal was Jenn. Thanks Jenn, the Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn totally rocks! Sunday I was in the Machine Knitting to Dye For class to dye self stripping sock yarn with Nancy Roberts at Commuknity. Great class. I learned some useful things to incorporate into my dying in the future although I don't think I'll be buying a knitting machine. Here are my two sets that I dyed during the class. On Monday I came home to find a package waiting from SP8 pal and oh did she spoil me! I got some beautiful Lorna's Laces sock yarn, an incense burner (I had mentioned that mine had been ruined in the Hurricane) & yummy incense, and some gorgeous cards! Thank you SP! I also got my KSKS bag in the mail. Here are some pics of what I did. It's made of two accidently felted sweaters I've had for awhile wondering what to do with them.

I haven't posted in a while because it's been too hot to turn on the computer! The heat wave is finally starting break a little today but it's still awfully hot! July 14th my Mom had back surgery for what was thought to be a herniated disc. When they got in there in turned out to be a genetic birth defect where her disc wasn't connected to the vertebrae. That had caused a lot of movement and thus a lot of calcium deposits and bone spurs and stuff like that had formed and started impinging on a nerve. That is what was causing all of the pain she had. On the Sunday after her surgery I got a call asking if I could fly to Tennessee and help out with things after she got released from the hospital on Monday. Being the wonderful loving daughter I am, I jumped right on a plane and spent a week on the floor by my mom's bed taking care of her. My sister would have helped but she has two small children (3 yr and 6 mo) and couldn't get out of her responsibilities. And my step-dad wasn't able to do everything by himself and was worried about taking too much time off work. I ended having a lot of time to knit. I finished my swap item for my craftster swap but I can't post pictures yet because I haven't mail it yet. I also finished my pomatomus socks. And my first knucks glove. The second to follow and the embroidery on this pair will either say PLAY NICE or HELL FIRE. Haven't decided which one yet. What do you think? While in Tennessee I got a breif chance to see my good friend MaryDean and my godson Zachery. He just woke up from a nap. Unfortunately I think I suffered a knitting related injury due to the amount of knitting I did. My left upper arm has been killing me. I went to the doctor yesterday and he recommended physical therapy. I've already missed so much work that I didn't schedule my first physical therapy appointment until Friday, which is my day off this week. I also went to see a guy who does myofascial release yesterday since I couln't get to the PT until friday. That really helped a lot. It was probably about 60% better today until I fell out of my chair at lunch today (don't ask) and strained it a little again.
I've been doing a little cross-stitch since my left arm is out of comission for now. It's not knitting or crochet but at least it keeps the hands busy. This weekend is going to be very exciting! Friday is UFO night at Commuknity which I will go to even if I have to bring my cross stitch instead of knitting! Then Saturday is Lambtown, Oh yeah! And Sunday is a self stripping sock yarn dying class at Commuknity that I'm really looking forward to!
And lastly my SP8 hostest sent out this little questionaire for us to answer for a little contest.
1. What is you're favorite season? I love all the season's for their own reasons but fall is really nice but I really like spring too. I can't pick just one. I'm not too fond of summer right now, it could be the heat talking.
2. Where is or would be your favorite place in the world to take a vacation? Oh boy, I've always wanted to go to Australia.
3. If you could have any job in the world and not worry about finances, what would it be? I would be a DZO (dropzone owner). Or I've also always wanted to own and run a bed and breakfast, this is actually my retirement plan.
4. What is your favorite project to knit or crochet? Right now I have to say I love knitting socks. I really like crochet though because of the speed too, especially crocheted shawls.
5. What is your favorite food, whether it's a main dish, dessert, snack, etc? A warm ooey gooey brownie with Ben and Jerries "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" icecream on top. Or chocolate covered strawberries. Or really good cheesecake or cream brulle. Desserts are generally my favorite.
6. What is your favorite way to relax and unwind? It used to be a skydive but I haven't jumped since November. My motorcycle is nice. A good long bath is nice. Sex always helps. A good movie. If it's really bad a good massage or pedicure or both might be required. And of course there's always knitting and crochet!
Hope everyone is getting a better night's sleep in this heat then I have been!

Last weekend CJ and I had a little 4th of July dying party at her house. Here I am hard at work. Here's how the yarns turned out. Daffodils Punky Purple Dark Pleasures Ocean's Night Garnet Tanzanite Leftovers Let me know what you think of my attempt at dying and my name choices! I love the way the yarn turned out. I did learn that I was using the dye pretty strongly and got really intense colors. So, next time if I want to get lighter colors I definately need to water them down a lot more! Also, made some pregress on my Pomatomus socks. Finished the first one and the second one is coming along too. I also finished my bag for KSKS pal but I forgot to take a picture of it. I will post a picture in my next post before I send it out. Finally, I made my yarn swift. The one DH attempted didn't turn out so well, ummmm, not to my standards, so, I decided to make it myself. Here is the finished swift. I'm quite proud of myself. So that's it for this week. Hope everyone had a good 4th of July!

Uugggg, I've been traveling for work all week and it looks like I'll be traveling again this week. The highlights of the trip this week were getting a free upgrade from Avis to a convertable Sebring and the Knit Affair yarn shop that was just two blocks from the hotel I was staying at was having a 10% off everything anniversary sale! I came back with with 3 back issues of Interweave knits, 1 skein of Plymouth Wool, and 1 skein of Lornas Lace's Fisherman's Wool. Even better, when I got home from my trip I had a package waiting from my SP8 pal. She sent me a wonderful book that I've had on my wishlist for a long time, Folk Solks. Thanks again SP! I made some progress on the Pomatomus socks while traveling. I also made my first attempt at dying this weekend using the an angora/silk yarn from a recycled sweater. First lesson, don't try to put too much yarn in the crock pot or you'll get undyed spots. Other than that, I still think it turned out pretty good overall. I haven't decided whether to go back and fill in the underdyed spots or whether I like just like it is. The 3 skeins in the picture come to about 1000 yds all together. The 4 small light skein on the far left is about 130 yards of 100% wool that I had leftover from another project that I threw in just see what it would do. I was surprised how much lighter than the angora/silk it turned out. The color in the picture isn't quite right either. The red is actually quite a bit darker. Well, hope the trip this week goes well and I don't get too much overtime!

Wow, I've been neglecting the blog again. So, here is the catching up post with everything going on lately. After I got back from vacation I found out that my Mom had hurt her back. She's been off work for 3 weeks. She just finally got the results of her MRI back this week. She has a herniated and slipped disk in her lower back that is impinging on a pretty major nerve. Now she waiting to see a neurologist to find out what's next. I want to put together a get well package for her with lots of things to do while on bedrest because she can't do much else. No, she doesn't knit. She used to crochet although here lately she's been more into puzzles like Sudoku. If you have any suggestions on stuff to send to make her feel better leave me a comment. I also decided to make a bag for the the counterfeit crochet project . I think it's an incredible idea and I can't wait to get started. I hope to buy some materials for my bag this weekend. Her is bag I plan on counterfeiting. CJ and I hit the thrift stores again last weekend. We were searching for used crockpots and bowls and utinsils to use for our "day of dying" that we are planning to do over the Fourth of July weekend. We're going to make a day of it and have a bbq and everything. I'm also very excited about this project and can't wait to see what we come up with! I'm not going to show any pictures of the dying equipment because I'm going to save that for pictures of our big day and show everything then. I did make a few other non dying related purchases though. Another basket for storing knitting related items. I also got 3 sweaters to attempt to recycle. One was a silk/cashmere blend. I started working on that one on Sunday. What a mess! This sweater was somehow knitted with two seperate strands of yarn! I mean it wasn't like they were knitted together but more like every other row was done back and forth with the other one, hard to explain. But let me just tell you, it makes it impossible to unravel and wind. My DH even tried to help and we both ended up so frustrated, the sweater ended up in the garbage! The second sweater is silk/angora mix. It's going smoother, not perfect, but smoother. It's white so I'm hoping to dye it! It's two very very loose plies, one is, I think, the silk and is very textured not quite a boucle and then the second one is very fine and silky and I think the angora. I think it'll make an interesting lace weight. The third sweater is 100ashmere. Let me tell you that this was a find for $4.99! It's a nice yarn weight too, looks like maybe about a DK. I haven't started to try to unravel it yet. See, the other two were practice for this one! I can't screw this one up. I hope to over dye this one too. Here's a picture of what it looks like now, a little to doudy for me but look at how long this sucker is! My DH has also kindly made me niddy noddy for all my new endeavors into recycling and dying. He has also agreed to make me swift! I have also added a new yarn winder to my collection! Now that I have these things I don't know how I ever got along with out them! Here's I picture of the niddy noddy he made for me. Just in case you're wondering, yes, I have done some knitting too. Not as much as I'd like but my arms have been tired from all the winding of recycled sweaters! Anyways I started my pomatomus socks. I haven't made a lot of progress but here's where I'm at, sorry it's a little blurry. Finally, I have signed up for another swap. Knit Sock Kit Swap So, here's the answers to my questionaire for my partner. What are your favorite colors? I love blues and I love pinks, pretty much all shades of both. I like them in combination with other colors too, like blues and browns or pinks and grays, or blues and purples or pinks and purples. Oh yeah, I like purples a lot too! I'm not big on yellows or oranges or greens but I can take them in smaller quantities.
Are you a new sock knitter? How long have you been knitting socks? Yes, I'm pretty new to sock knitting. I'm working on my third pair of socks now. But I'm pretty new to knitting in general. I've been knitting for about 3-4 months and knitting socks for about 2-3 months. I started knitting to learn how to knit socks! There are pictures of all my socks in my blog.
Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn? For socks I'm hooked on multicolored stuff but I wouldn't be against trying a solid color with the right pattern to show it off.
What fibers do you prefer in sock yarn? I like the superwash wools and merino's and any of the handpainted merino's are wonderful.
Where do you usually knit socks? Home, LYS, sometimes on the train/light rail, anywhere I have enough time to pull them out. How do you usually carry/store small projects? I have a wicker basket thing I got at a thrift store I like for small projects. I also have a beaded/hemp backpack type bag I picked up target that I like for it's portability.
What are your favorite sock knitting patterns? Jeesh, I don't feel qualified to answer this, I've only worked on three! I've liked all 3, a ribbing pattern, jaywalkers, and now pomatomus! I like pretty socks, I don't like the plain stockinette ones. Even my first pair I didn't do in plain stockinette.
What are your favorite sock knitting techniques? Again, not qualified to answer, I haven't been exposed to enough. I like the heel flap so far but I haven't tried anything else. I like working top down but I've never tried toe up! I can't have a favorite yet.
What new techniques would you like to try? Can I list them all? Let's see - I've really been wanting to try two circulars. I've also been wanting try different heel or different toe techniques. I've also wanted to try intarsia. I haven't done any yet but I thought a sock might be a good way to try it first. There's a few to keep you busy!
Do you prefer circulars or dpns for sock knitting? I've only used dpns so far but like I said I'd like to try two circulars.
What are some of your favorite yarns? Let's just stick with favorite sock yarns! So far I've knitted socks with Trekking, Opal, and Claudia's hand painted. I've enjoyed all three for different reasons. I also have some koigu and some Mountain colors Barefoot in my stash that I haven't knitted with yet.
What yarn do you totally covet? Right now the sock yarns I have been coveting - some of Scout's handpainted Swag, Cherry tree hill stuff, Lorna's Laces. There's also some colorways here Monarch Sock yarn, like Rainier, Shades of Teal, Blueberries, Foxglove, Sky, Deep Ocean, Blue Grass, Roses, August, Mist, Petrol and Neapolitan all of which make me drool. And they're huge HUGE 8oz skeins!
Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object? I have to think about this one some more.
Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)? I broke a Brittany needle on only my second pair of socks, so I'm not so happy with them. That set was replaced by some Crystal Palace bamboos and so far so good. I like circs for everything else I knit besides socks. I'm trying my first pair of Addit Turbos soon for my Clapotis if I can ever finish enough other stuff to get that started.
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be? I have to get back to you on this one.
Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack? I love, love, love chocolcate, any kind and all kinds. I also like Jelly Bellys, not any jelly beans just Jelly Bellys. I also like nuts of just about any kind especially with flavors or glaze or whatever or on them.
What's your favorite animal? I like cats.
Do you have pets? What are their species/names/ages? We have 3 cats, there's pictures of them around here somewhere. There's Frodo he's about 6, Sam she's about 4 and Gilmi he's about 2.
If you were a color what color would you be? My DH says sky blue because I jump out of airplanes. I guess that's as good as any. The sky makes me feel good. My eyes are blue and blue is my color.
Describe your favorite shirt (yours or someone else's).. An old t-shirt worn until it's worn in so well that it's thin and comfy. Too bad we lost most of our 100+ t-shirt collection in the hurricane - We will Rebuild !
What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature? It's getting late I'll get back to you on this one and the next one
Tell me the best quote you've ever heard or read. Do you have a wishlist? I do have an amazon wishlist.
Anything else youd like to share with the group today? I'm all shared out for today. Good night.

I'm back! Vacation in Atlanta was great, well except for having a head cold the entire time I was there. My friend was sick too so we made a great pair coughing and blowing our noses everywhere we went.
