I've added a little song as a tribute to my Co-Producer Dave Hermiston who recently started saving up for a Playstation 3.  We've been spending a lot of time together and I'm not very good at staying focused, especially now that I'm in a baseball pool. He'll want me to assure you that it was recorded with my phone on my knee without the benefit of his world-class microphone technique.

God Bless Him.

Donovan Plays a solo show at The Central. He's gonna play two sets.
Mostly new songs and some of those old ones that you've all heard a
million times. He'll talk and talk about nonsense all night long.

Two Sets. Starting at 9:30.

It's
a great opportunity to spend an evening with Donovan without having to
go through the agony of being his actual friend. Believe me, you don't
want this guy on the phone at 2 in the morning. He's a real mess, this
guy.

See you there! Yeah? Yeah.

Donovan Woods the day before Easter. Coincidence? Yes.

INVITE YOUR FRIENDS AND YOUR ENEMIES. I'll fight them for you.

So we've started a new blog for Donovan here:

www.17thbestsongwriterincanada.blogspot.com

Now he can finally give away free tracks like rappers do. That's what he's told us he wants.

"A blog? No. What I really want is a thing where I can give away free tracks like how a lot of rappers do now."                      - Donovan Woods

Hello mailing list folks,

Donovan here, updating you on some goings on.

I've
been in the studio for too long, and after scrapping two entire album
sessions, angering many an engineer, and eating my hat, I'm on the
right track with my next record. It will still be called "The
Widowmaker" but its no longer an EP.  Its now 15 songs long. Some songs
are very short. I'll post a tracklist on myspace as soon as its
solidified.

Jay Dart, the man who made the art for "The Hold Up" is again working on desinging this one. www.thedart.ca is his website, you should check out his stuff, he's a talented fellow.

In other news, my song "Brand New Gun" is going to be featured on
the CBC show "Wild Roses" in the next few weeks. I've been told its a
rip-roaring cowboy drama. I'll be the judge of that. "Brand New Gun" is
also in the Matthew Perry Movie "Numb" which is available for rent
anywhere. I think its available on The Movie Network in Canada as
well.  I got to talk to Matthew Perry on the phone which was a real
thrill. He's very Canadian, you can tell.

This Saturday, February 7th, I'm playing a solo headlining set at
C'est What? in Toronto. I go on at 10pm and the cost is 6 dollars.

Also,
I've just finalized an upcomming show in Guelph with Craig Cardiff.
I'm a big fan of his, so I'm actually really excited about this one.
The show is March 8th at the Albion Hotel in Guelph, Ontario. We're
doing two performances a 7pm all ages show and a 10pm grown-ups show.
Tickets are 10 dollars advance and 15 dollars at the door.

Craig is so good, and I got to talk to him on the phone as well.
His song "Revival Day" makes me feel like a complete hack, and that
makes me feel so good.  www.craigcardiff.com

On a personal note, I've taken a real shining to beeswax candles.
They require a lot of maintenance. Its tantamount to dog-ownership, but
so much less rewarding. I assume.

Hope all is well with you all. And thanks for your interest in my music. I appreciate it. Stay warm.

Donovan is playing a number of shows in January, as you can see on the main page, including a residency at The Local in Toronto. Every Thursday in January. (excluding the 1st)

Donovan is also finishing up the recording of his sophomore effort "The Widowmaker" which looks to be heading for a March release. Finally!

I've been privy too some early versions of the new songs and you will not be disappointed, believe me. Donovan is out to prove that he is one of  the finest songwriters working in Canada today. Look out, folks.

Toronto's best local songwriter (what?) this thursday the 11th in Guelph.

Its at the Ebar, at 8pm.

Donovan Woods has just been voted Best Local Songwriter in Toronto in Now Magazine's Annual Reader's Poll.

This is a pretty big honour, as past winners include some of Donovan's songwriting heroes, including Ron Sexsmith.

Exciting Stuff there, folks!

Donovan's song "brand new gun" is featured on the soundtrack to the new Matthew Perry movie called "Numb". Chandler Bing him mawfuckin self. The movie is out on DVD now and you can rent it anywhere I think. Kevin Pollack is also in it.

Donovan's song plays while Matthew Perry is on screen. OMG, srsly. It blew his mind, I was there when he watched it.

Go out and rent it and check it out.
