Hey everyone, So last Friday we opened up for one of our favorite Bands Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad (myspace.com/giantpandadub) and it was right in our own home town. That's the good shit by the way, opening up for your favorite Bands. We also had a little band rehearsal early that morning and we were luck enough to get our good friend Joe Duerst in to film some behind the scenes footage and make a short documentary. Courtesy of shootoutmedia.com, thanks Joe! It turned out great by the way, and I wanted to share with all you music lovers out there. Thanks for watching and best wishes to all. Good afternoon to all of you beautiful people out there! This blog is entirely and completely an introduction to a photographer who is also a good friend of mine and if you don't already know of his work, I ensure that you will absolutely stand-still after one look. Meet Ben Moon, a friend, a survivor of cancer, and one incredible photographer. Ben's work, always seems to debilitate the eyes which gaze back and forth from a brief sojourn through his very unique, very off the beaten track style of predicting life through a lens.
I met Ben through a friend of a friend of a friend and our friendship began to develop immediately. You see, Ben is one of those rarities among human beings who just connects with everyone, and they connect back. Ben just gets it! Like any other form of art, Ben is an artist that is super honest and doesn't try too hard to capture what is already there. You know, art is all around us, but sometimes we try to hard to see it or we just miss it.
I've noticed that when I write songs I tend to look so hard for something unique that I've already missed out on what's right in front of me. So who says you can't learn something from another artist. I've learned from my good friends like Ben that if you want to connect with the world then you must see what the world sees. And that is why I'm sharing this with you. I love it when an artist not only connects with the world but also connects with other artists across the board. I mean, painters inspiring musicians and musicians inspiring sculptors and sculptors inspiring poets and you get the idea:) I mean how rare is that now days. I can tell you its uncommon.
Now days art is so corporate that, you may think your inspired but its just a subterfuge with a formula to sell, sell, sell. So what I'm really trying to say is, "don't worry about staining or dimming your reputation when looking for real art. Just open up your eyes. Its all around you. Its your next door neighbors big red door that's seen many generations, young and old. Its the sweet girl at the coffee shop who's older brother is in Iraq fighting for all of us here. Or maybe its just simple like the rain that dims the daylight hiding above. Real, genuine art. Don't be afraid, just look for it. Look for art that hits the heart strings right where the heart strings need to be hit.
From me to you, one of my personal favorites- a genuine bona-fide artist: www.moonfoto.com

09.09.08 I'm on a plane flying back from Colorado and I think its getting easier! "Unproblematic," you say?? Yes, trouble-free. Oh, flying that is. I utterly hate to fly. I'm not going to fabricate the truth on this one. Even though, I always say "oh flying, I love to fly," I'm speaking to you now from 27,000 ft. above solid earth so that is completely trumped-up when I say I love to fly, I'm not gonna lie to you! And let me say this is serious and it just came to me. I am flying back on 9/11 and my heart truly aches for those who lost loved ones on that horrible and terrific day. I will never fail to remember that day as I'm sure every person on the globe will never forget the day our lives would change dramatically forever. There are two great observable things that happen when you fly. One, you are so scared shitless that you will talk with anyone, the person next to you, the guy in the front or the sweet flight attendant who normally you wouldn't have time to connect with but in this situation you appreciate the little things. Two, you always find out what your true dreams are when flying. Yes that's right, at least I do. Every time I fly, I'm so scared shitless that I start telling the person next to me everything that I want to experience in my life in the next 20 or 30 years. It's funny though, because the person next to me always looks at me like "wow, this kid is ambitious, and I am to a certain extent, but in all honesty, flying is my inspiration.

09.04.08 Home sweet home. Yes, that phrase is probably a some what recognizable tenor to the majority of people out there but for me, I've just moved around too much I guess to relate to that cliché. But I must declare that moving in to a new place is one of my most wanted feelings. I guess anything fresh is a good feeling, right? Moving out, now that's another conversation that I like to avoid bringing up at all. So for now let's talk about fresh starts and moving in to that pleasant new comfortable pad. I just recently moved into a new place with a good friend best known as AKA Sully or Soley as Franchot Tone would say coming from across the room. It's a comfy little two story duplex in the Old Mill district of Bend, OR, which in Bend's laymen's term, would be 'the touristy side of town.' There are three of us all together in my new place and after only being there a couple nights I can say that it's the perfect balance as far as genders are concerned. I think that two boys and one girl is the perfect balance and I mean that in a truly non discriminate way. The reason being is that boys are just naturally messy and really don't have the best sense of fashion, so having at least one female in the house balances out the differences. I think there are a lot of guys out there who would absolutely hate the idea of having candles lit all the time or having their bathroom transformed into a day spa but I'm going to cross the line and step out of the sacred boundaries on this one. I think its great; really, I'm not just saying that. Or maybe that's because I grew up around females and I'm just used to this phenomenon. So with all that aside, I'm pretty much settled in now other than one last box filled with Listerine, tepee, and some bills that I forgot to open before I moved. So right now, I'm really enjoying this fresh, new-fangled, up-to-the-minute feeling of living in a brand new place!! Sorry, I can't give out the address, I promised Sully there would be no house parties.

08.28.08 Just recently I had the opportunity to play on the same stage as Sheryl Crow and it was in the town I spent a majority of my youth in, playing small blues pubs and dreaming about moments like this at my hometown amphitheater in Bend Oregon. Sheryl was late for the democratic convention and the stars somehow aligned for my band and I. We went on at about 6:30 sharp and there were about 3,500 people thinning out below us. I have to be completely honest and say I've never been that nervous before. Actually, sick to my stomach would be a legitimate answer. I was, for the most part anxious, because Brandi Carlile's band was sitting in the crowd waiting for the home town heroes to bring it home. I don't really get nervous towards the size of a venue but more so towards pleasing another artist who is absolutely brilliant and who entirely I admire, like Crow and Carlile. Don't get me wrong 3,500 people gazing at you can make you feel a bit on edge but having an artist who you look up to, and think highly of, listening to your performance can be some what, gut wrenching. But after the first strum and the first step up to the microphone, I finally become conscious of what all of that hard work was for. This is one of those moments where you look around at your surroundings and just think, "wow, this is how its supposed to be," exceptional! Those are the moments that I work hard for and those are the moments that I live for. The ones that make you and everyone around you say "this is special."

07.07.08 Ok, so this may sound somewhat indiscriminate, but it's a scenerio that actually took place. It's humorous but that's coming from me, the viewer, not the instigators who started this fracas. A yearning for the past, quote on quote, me wanting to see BB King. You know the guy who started it all. This guy's a legend! The photo above was a "Strikingly successful move" on my part. You see, that photo was taken just after the King discovered that people were being a bit rude during an original, yet, short guitar solo. "Sit the hell down" is what I heard coming from right behind me. Then, from the right, "we paid money for this show." "Sit the fu% down." Wow! I dropped to the grass, seemingly inert. Meanwhile, "The thrill is gone, the thrill is gone away," yes! I can still hear BB through the agitated sitters in the back. Who hoooooo! I think it's great to see people dance at a concert, don't you? I mean, isn't that what music is for, dancing?? The people behind me continued to revile at the people standing, "sit down you sun of bitch." And the people standing scolded back, "this is free airspace and a free country." Oh dear, here we go. Here come the security guards ready to throw down the gauntlet. Know the yelling is becoming a bit belligerent. I mean, is this really necessary, five security guards now standing in front of the people standing saying "If you're not going to sit down then we're going to stand in your way." I mean come on guys, I say all the fucking people sitting down stand up and dance. Don't go see a concert if you want to sit on your ass. Just sign up for netflix and have the damn concert mailed to your doorstep. All of the arguing from person to person and security guard to person were ended when BB looked over and stoped playing, just gazing with disdain at how all these people would pay for tickets to see the King and then argue over grass space. I think after the first second or two of BB's reaction, he accepted the fact that it was Hobson's choice, no choice at all. But I still think it was a indifference that should have been acknowledged either by the people them self, or the security guards. So BB, this goes out to you and the incredible music you give to the people who listen. THANK YOU and NO THANKS TO the crocodile tears that were left on your stage by the ignorants who just don't see outside the box. Lets forgive them, it's anathema that always happens at live shows. To BB Bona fide till the end.

06.15.08 The video shoot was a huge success! First off let me start by giving a huge thanks to all the people who were involved and took the time to help. THANK YOU! Second, Sky you are a genius and none of this would be made possible without you bro! Third, to the Rage Film team, all of you are like family to me and I am so thankful for you guys. The first weekend back from LA and it's cloudy here in Bend Oregon. We've had a super long winter and I was getting a little worried that we might not see summer. Sky gathered up everyone for the bike scene and we gave it our best shot. Well, with the weather being so inclement, we had to reschedule the shoot for the following weekend and I'm glad we did. For the record, I can't begin to explain how compatible Rick Tiner's(my bass player) house was for the shoot. Shea's dad built a 6X10 stage for us to play on and we used the living room for the dressing/makeup room. Thanks Rick, looks like your house is the movie house now, haha. We finally got a trombone player to fill Dave Ralickie's spot. I was feeling a bit Moribund and couldn't stop sweating that fact. But it all worked out. We got Andy Edwards. Andy showed up early and got the pleasure of helping me hang up lights, thx Andy. The Bike Scene was hilarious. We literally had 60 people on cruiser bikes riding around Bend Oregon. You should have seen the look on peoples faces as we rode by. We actually got pulled over while riding down a main street and the officer was very humored by the fact that giving one of us a ticket meant giving all of us a ticket, sorry officer Dan! Never the less, everything went super smooth. Everyone arrived on time and everyone had a blast. Thanks to Mike Riedy @ Rage Films. Mike you never cease to amaze me when it comes to motivating the unmotivated, THX. The video will be up and running via myspace, itunes, facebook and any other forms of internet technology we can ponder up. For more information check out the following websites. www.myspace.com/reedthomaslawrence www.reedthomaslawrence.com and www.rageproductions.com Take care and thank you again, to all the people who participated in making this happen.
