An MGFest and AMODA Collaboration

A synesthesia of: ( sound | visuals | interactive | social ) integrated into an unparalleled media+art event. MGFest09 begins a tradition of full-scale environmental design, bringing together a massive range of creative talents to inspire, awe, and activate your mind.

Paul Baker

magnetic events. analog energy patterns. chromatic weather on a rectangle sky.

Paul Baker mixes chemical, analog and digital flavors with projects like Sub Oslo, Spaceinvader Orchestra, and Furby Youth Choir. And explores intensely minimal organic video patterns, and performs as a dub and space A/V selector.

Artificial Life Preserver

artificial life preserver has been working to preserve algorithms that behave like living systems since 1997. Insect-like drones and cell based beats drive environmental mixes of organized time units. Drawing from his experience as a member of Texas psytrance trio Init-String, artificial life preserver brings you abstract, glitchy downtempo that could only come from a mind such as this. artificial life preserver is signed as an artist and released his debut album "automata" with Psymbolic--sounds.

Gift Culture

Gift Culture resonates a titillating mixture of worldly and astral sounds. The Gift Culture project is based on sounds, imagery, and art derived from DSP technology, analogue synthesis, and computer-based non-linear editing. Gift Culture attempts to share his explorations in this multi-dimensional space; to evoke sonic textures from samplers and synthesizers; a journey to discover their "voices", so to speak, using such techniques as granular synthesis, spectral resynthesis, FFT/IFFT based spectral morphing and interpolation, and whatever other exotic algorithms he can coax out of his myriad machines. Gift Culture is signed as an artist and released his album entitled "Terraforming" with Psymbolic--sounds.

Dr. Bleep of Bleep Labs

Dr. Bleep (John-Mike Reed) is a noiseologist who creates odd, bleeping, blinking, buzzing devices. He has been astounding and annoying Austin with his antics since 2003 and will be performing a special 15 minute music set during MGFest. Bleep Labs was begun as a solution to the world's ever increasing appetite for anthropomorphic synthesizer toys. Dr. Bleep and company produce hand made instruments in their Austin, Texas workshop and send them to noise lovers the world over. Their first instrument, the Thingamagoop is an analog synthesizer that you control in a different way. Instead of using a keyboard, the main oscillator is controlled by a photocell. The "LEDacle" on top of the Thingamagoop is a type of modulator but instead of adjusting knobs and switches to change how it interacts with the main oscillator. Bleep Labs also offers a kit version of the Thingamagoop with more controls and noise potential. These instruments will be on display and available during MGFEst events.

Negativland
selections from "Our Favorite Things"

Since 1980, the 4 or 5 or 6 Floptops known as Negativland have been creating records, CDs, video, fine art, books, radio and live performance using appropriated sound, image and text. Mixing original materials and original music with things taken from corporately owned mass culture and the world around them, Negativland re-arranges these found bits and pieces to make them say and suggest things that they never intended to. In doing this kind of cultural archaeology and "culture jamming" (a term they coined way back in 1984), Negativland have been sued twice for copyright infringement.

MGFest will be showcasing a few selections from Negativland's newest release entitled "Our Favorite Things"  visit Negativland

Motion Graphics Festival 2009
New Motion + New Sound + New Code
Austin, Texas :: May 11-22
http://www.MGFest.com

Austin is known for supporting Indy Artists and Alternative Cultures throughout the year, but specifically, this month the Austin Motion Graphics Festival brings independent culture creators to the big screen. From filmmakers to musicians, MGFest unites artists across the divides of genre and medium to celebrate the weird, imaginative and other-worldly visions that use the technology of sequential images and the illusion of motion.

The studies of motion design, sound design and interactivity, are featured during the weeks of May 11th through 22nd. The apex of festival activity takes place during May 14 through 17 with entertainment events across the city, including: an art showcase with the Austin Museum Of Digital Art (AMODA), studio tours at top Austin design companies, screenings of local and international motion artists, a full-day educational conference, an open collaboration summit, and two weeks of industry workshops on creative software by Microsoft, Maxon, Adobe, Ableton and the local innovative Livid Instruments.

This year's Austin Motion Graphics Festival begins May 11th, 2009 featuring internationally recognized artists including: Shepard Fairey, Nine Inch Nails, David Byrne, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Kanye West, Addictive TV, Digital Kitchen, The Mill, Passion Pictures, Animal Logic, Post Panic, Dvein, David Lobser, Ken Adams, Yoshi Sodeoka, Larry Carlson, Jen Stark, Bob Sabiston, Sandy Stone, Paul Baker, Gift Culture, Artificial Life Preserver and more.

This festival in the fast moving field of design technology has opened it's Art & Entertainment events for only $7. Rather than charging the typical $500-$1500 conference fee, the Motion Graphics Festival encourages participants to stop complaining about the economy, and spend their money on something that will upgrade their tools, technique and aesthetics. Software, DVDs and music will be available at a discount rate throughout the festival week.

Austin MGFest presented by Microsoft Expression Studio 2.

Additional MGFest Sponsors include: Maxon, Austin Museum of Digital Art, IdN, Livid Instruments, Lumenbrite Training, Lumen Eclipse, SXSW Interactive, Stash DVD Magazine, Create Digital Motion, All City Technology, Future Media Concepts, DigiEffects, VidVox, Sterling Ledet, Boris FX, Resolume, Toolfarm, UnScene, GarageCUBE, Lift Motion Design, RE:Vision Effects, Ableton, Wondertouch & Clif Bar.

Silent Auction for over $30,000 in software, DVDs and training materials.

Here's the lineup for the Gamma Fest so far, please spread the word and help try to promote - this event is going to be a hot one! :^)

Gamma Fest ~ August 17th - 19th
http://www.Psymbolic.com/events

143 ridge top acres with on site bathrooms, showers, an outdoor amphitheater, a covered main stage, electrical hookups, shaded campsites, hiking trails, a cave to explore, a stream running through the property, and just a short drive away to crystal clear Beaver Lake for swimming, canoeing, and cliff jumping.

We live in a world of variables. Each one of us made up of infinite numbers of variables while we ourselves act as variables to the world around us. Assumptions are made and variables held constant so that we can mathematically calculate and identify other variables. With everything being a variable with the ability to influence other variables, it is easy to see mathematically how we are all related. Each and every action we take from the food we eat to the words we say and even our very thoughts affect our universe. We as variables have the ability to make better our minds, our bodies, our states of being, our outlook on life, our environments, our governments, our universe. When we come together to ally ourselves with a goal of bettering our world, we make an impact spiritually, mentally, physically and on planes we have only begun to understand. We do this simply by changing our value as a variable.
