Current mood: hungover
Whats up everybody! It has been almost a year since In the wild came out and after countless shows the time has come for Hellrazor to record some of our new tunes. This means we won't be able to play any shows for a little while. We plan on releasing an E.P. or full length album as soon as we can and will resume playing anywhere we can as soon as we have finished recording.

HELLRAZOR - "In The Wild" Heaven and Hell Records 2008
Genre: Heavy Metal!!! Country: USA Band Website: www.myspace.com/hellrazornc Duration: Nearly an hour of Heavy Metal ecstasy Killer Songs: ''In the Wild," "Hellrazor," "Possesion"
It might not seem so, but your average metal webzine is staffed by a crew of very hardworking and dedicated professionals. Sure, they have to contend with work, family, or even school, plus serious bouts of laziness that are inevitably followed by remorse. Yet on top of everything, they manage to squeeze in precious quality time for their passion: feeding metalheads whatever it is webzines feed its readership. Professional, right?
It is these very people who sift through the tons (no kidding here—TONS) of music people send in daily and introduce them to a much wider audience. It’s a 365-day (okay, take a week off of the Christmas season) struggle to deliver the best. Always.
Yet no matter how hard they try, a few albums simply miss their collective scrutiny, which now brings us to Hellrazor’s debut “In The Wild.” Hah! You never suspected where these sentences were leading up to, did you? Ya unsuspecting bastard.
No hype, no subtle gratitude to their label for shelling out a free album, but the material at hand is the most incredible dose of unadulterated Heavy Metal anyone has heard in ages. All the classic influences are here, boys and girls. Iced Earth, Priest, Accept, Armored Saint, Metallica. In the hands of Hellrazor, the finest molten heavy metal ingredients have been set to record with devastating effect.
Opening title track starts with the faint rattle of drums that grows into a deafening rumble. Add face melting riffs, a killer melody, and vocalist Alan Rueda’s roar (he’s a clean singer though), thereby elevating the very first song of the band’s first album to classic status. These guys are total professional, whether on record or live, being long past the stage where they’re absorbing influences and finding their niche. None of this amateur nonsense for Hellrazor. The blueprint is set and what they do, they do perfectly.
Spot on soloing, serious lyrics, headbanging anthems, a couple of pseudo-ballads, and an ode to dangerously seductive women (that would be the catchy “Stacked Up”), conspire to give the listener goosebumps. The song “Hellrazor” itself is custom-made to ignite a stadium filled with thousands of screaming fans. Going farther than self-worship, the quartet celebrates their lifestyle on “Ride or Die,” “3AM,” and “Darker Days.” Hellrazor are on top throughout this kick ass opus. So everyone raise your broadswords and hail the new champions of American Heavy Metal!
Enough words now, quick…find a way to buy this album! (HailnKill suggests visiting their label’s website.) ....

http://www.metalreviews.com/reviews/detail.php3?id=4948 Being a fan of both Power Metal and Thrash Metal, I have always
enjoyed when bands tried to combine both styles, which is not always
successfully done. That is not the case with HellRazor who unleash their version of “Power Thrash” with their debut album, In The Wild. They combine the classic approach of bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and especially Iced Earth with the more aggressive elements of Testament and Anthrax.
North Carolina has recently been providing the metal scene with some
very good bands over the past few years. Formed in the autumn months of
2005, the members of HellRazor have been part of this scene for a while now playing for bands such as Bloodwritten, Daylight Dies, and Iskariot. Vocalist Alan Rueda, whose vocal style combines those of Matt Barlow (Iced Earth) and Chuck Billy (Testament) with the occasional high pitch scream that reminds me of Tim Owens’ bellows during his stint with Judas Priest,
is a perfect fit for the music that is created by his fellow band
mates. Bassist David Sanchez and drummer Chuck Giardino combine to
successfully control the tempo on In The Wild, while the guitarist, Charley Shackleford, generates the definitive sound of HellRazor with his crushing guitar performance.
The opening and title track In The Wild shows that HellRazor
means business, creating a metallic rumpus so full of rhythm that there
will be some shattered necks by songs end. The bands namesake follows
suit complete with Alan showing his range with Halford-esque screams
come chorus time. The Pawn is a real thrasher that reminds me of Agent Steel at times. Possession tips its hat to Iron Maiden,
especially in the riffing, but does not in any way sound like a carbon
copy. The album finishes off with a couple thrashers in Ride Or Die and 3AM. The album is not without fault. HellRazor are at their weakest when things slow down and become a bit more melodic, on tracks like Darker Days and The Passing Hour. But the good defiantly outweighs the bad.
HellRazor is a band I would defiantly love to see perform
live. The construction and pace of most songs would translate
impressively on stage. If you are a fan of bands such as Iced Earth, Agent Steel and Armored Saint than HellRazor will fit nicely into your music collection. Killing Songs :

Rising up, out of the dark core daze - rallying to ride
before daylight dies - Hellrazor arrive to vanquish and overthrow. Coming
straight for your throat, these Raleigh, North Carolina natives, like
their neighbours in Twisted Tower Dire, Praetorius,Viper, & Widow,
defend the faith with radical honesty, and a brutish steel reserve.
With each passing hour of power, thrashing death engaged,
and each consecutive rotation, Hellrazor deliver their burnt offering,
with some wicked waves coming at you live and loud; producing the ultimate
synaptic response.
As one becomes ensconced in the Hellrazor like slice of
life, he may be tempted to categorize them as another Iced Earth clone.
Granted, they do embody the thrash tenacity of the glorious, golden
era of Iced Earth; however, Hellrazor balance on a legde, willing to
honour their tattoed influences, wearing back to back leather jackets
with pride.
All the Classic Metal acts are involved in the writing
process, especially, Priest, Maiden,W.A.S.P., Ozzy, AC/DC, Twisted Sister,
etc. I also hear some Anthrax, Armored Saint, Meliah Rage, Premonition,
Aska, & Kingscrossing.
Vocalist Alan Rueda's thrust and tone, is quite similar
to Matt Barlow; but, he can also be compared to a number of frontmen,
most notably Tim "Ripper" Owens, when he wails. The punchy
chord cadence, drumming anger, and aggression are similar to what bands
like Intense (UK) or California's Imagika strive to attain.
It is interesting to note that guitarist Charley Shackleford
also plays in the doom-laden band Daylight Dies, and the Classic Metal
Band Iskariot. Surprisingly, with Hellrazor, the pace is more fervent,
and he foists and foments upon the listener some seriously rippin' riffs.
'In The Wild' begins with Chuck's hypostatic drum echo,(one
we've all heard before) leading into a screaming for vengeance altercation.
'Hellrazor' then keeps the fire burning, assuring mnemonic possession.
Meanwhile, the blistering belligerence of 'The Pawn' and "Possession"
ensure mutual destruction.
'Darker Days' slows the pace way down with it's Type O
Negative - Pete Steel vibe. 'The Passing Hour' is epic, but at times
tedious. 'Stacked Up' is replete with a whole lot of rosy riffs and
shoot to thrill layering. 'Ride Or Die" and '3am' are great ways
to end the CD with a metal thrashing madhouse of jovial transgression.
Ultimately, Hellrazor stick with a tried and true formula.
I respect them for making mettle with sincerity. The CD is short, but
to the point. If you like your Metal 100% '80s, heed the call In The
Wild. http://www.metalcovenant.com/pages/index.htm
