Noisy Night III - Chinnery's, Southend, Monday May 21st 2007

Ten Tigers/Anger Is A Gift/Rizzo/Zen Motel

Rizzo - by wolfieColchester's Rizzo are up next, further proof that all bands that take their moniker from a character from the movie Grease are indeed, great. The indie four-piece's passionate, brooding alternative rock is mesmerizing – comparisons with PJ Harvey, fellow Anglican rockers Diastole and even our own Sam I Am abound, however frontwoman Amy seems to be able to take her rage and spit it out with such passion and vigour coupled with catchy rhythms, ensuring this band won't be unknown for much longer. The band close with forthcoming single 'All For Show' - definitely a must for anyone's record collection and now available from indiestore.com as a download.

Third band of the night was Rizzo. They consist of three guys and a female on vocals. I had already reviewed the demo for the website but hadn't seen them live before. I'd say that their live set is actually a bit better than the CD, shockingly. You could really feel them, if that makes sense – there was more of an atmosphere watching an actual set than simply listening to a recording. I still wasn't such a fan of her voice, but after talking to Sophia from noisy she told me these guys were her favourite band of the night. Was difficult to get that out of her though as she initially tried to be diplomatic and say she liked all of them, heh. Emma from ten tigers also said how she liked them.

Mike Fisher and DJ Moonlight were there to show their support. I think it was them who said the vocal style was slightly like the yeah yeah yeahs/ Juliette and the licks. I wouldn't know because I don't listen to them, heh. I'll say this for them; they had much more song variation than the second band by far. They ended on a song I've played on my show but I would say it sounded better on CD, as you can hear the tune more. I think they said that's their single too. Overall a good set, it went down well.
