Hello everyone!
Well, it's been a busy month for the band. The UK tour was a success and much fun was had by all. Meeting great people is always a highlight of any travel and we were no different.
We'd like to thank everyone who came to the shows and especially the guys up in Glasgow who showed us the sights and sounds after the gig. Oh and big Tam, who is now our official minder for whenever we're north of the border...
The Birmingham show was a cracker as well and this was in part helped by the band on before us called Crash Repeat. Total attitude and a fantastic prelude to Killaflaw. Even the band thought these guys would be a difficult act to follow, but hopefully they at least matched them :o)
There were a few days off before we headed south for the second half of the tour, which began in Brighton in a venue called The Hope. Another great night ensued and the band pocketed a bunch of new fans. The only downer of the night was Benn losing his mobile phone and a whole bunch of song ideas with it. We only figured out it was gone after we had returned to our hotel at Heathrow Airport. Such is life...
The next highlight was the show at Reading's Oakford Social, where we got the chance to play with our mates MidiMidis for BBC Introducing. It was a great night and had a tinge of irony, as Chase and Status were playing at a venue round the corner on the same evening. It was also Chase and Status who played with Killaflaw in London in April 2008. That night we stole their crowd and this time they stole ours. All's fair and all that.
And so to London, where the guys played at 93 Feet East. Not the best night of the tour as there were some considerable problems with the lineup which left the band effectively headlining a night where they were originally due to open. For those of you familiar with this scenario, you'll know what I mean. The sound wasn't all that brilliant, either.
The final show in the south of the country was at the University of Sussex. We arrived to discover that there was no sound engineer available and we would have to set the system up ourselves and make our own way through the bar's basic PA. That said, we use what we've got and surprisingly the set sounded pretty good in the end. The staff in the venue were also very accommodating and we had a great time.
On a personal note, after all the relatively short drives in the south, my heart sank when I programmed Liverpool into the satnav to see the miles left equal 270...
Talking of Liverpool, our show at Korova was unfortunately cancelled, as it had shut down the previous week. We had hoped to relocate to the new site but sadly it was not to be. The band is due to play there in December, however.
The final night of the official part of the tour was a showcase event for Filter Magazine, as part of the annual In The City conference in Manchester. The band headlined the night and proceeded to blow everyone away, despite some nervy moments before the set with technology not behaving. It was a great way to end the trip and as always we find that Manchester welcomes Killaflaw with open arms. There were many conference delegates at the show and I didn't have to force any promo CDs into anyone's hand. They came up and specifically asked for them. A positive sign indeed!
We met some cool people, including Nova and Loxley from a Canadian music company and forged a relationship that you might hear more about over the next few months.
Once again we'd all like to thank everyone for helping make the tour a success and a fantastic experience.
And that was it! Tour completed and back to the matter of making records. There'll be a further update later in the week about that including information about Set Me On Fire, which is available from Monday.
Catch you later,
M.

November 16th marks the release of ‘Set Me On Fire’, the third single from Liverpool-based dance duo Killaflaw. Delivering a unique sound combining the electronic wizardry of Andy Paton and the impressive vocal capacity of Benn Helm, the pair have already garnered critical acclaim from the likes of the BBC, XFM, and Kerrang!
Set Me on Fire is bursting with the signature Killaflaw sound – a dexterous blend of beats and raw, rock influenced vocals. The title track is the perfect example of the band’s ability to cross boundaries and create a sound that successfully fuses a wide variety of musical genres. An undeniably catchy melody is coupled with a hard-hitting rock driven beat, rounded off with a vocal that would do Chris Cornell proud and convert even the most diehard of rock fans!
Taking their name from Howlin’ Wolf’s sublime ‘Killing Floor’, the band formed in 2006 and by February 2008 they had won Liverpool’s Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) award, before being selected by Fran Healy of Travis to appear on the EP ‘Play. Stop. Rewind.’ Their debut EP ‘Revolution’ was released in October 2008 and secured the boys firm support from the likes of the BBC’s Tom Robinson, Kerrang!’s Emma Scott and XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris. ‘Revolution’ then went on to win Xfm’s Demo of the Year award for 2008.
Killaflaw have been keeping busy and gathering momentum ever since. Several exciting musical projects have ensued, including collaborations with Shunda K of Yo!Majesty, remixes by Ed Cosens of Reverend and the Makers (who has also proposed a writing partnership with the duo….) and their yet to be released debut album, Sleaze and Grit’ will be produced by Eddie Temple-Morris and Tom Bellamy.
This month the band announced that Utah Saints will soon begin work on a head ripping remix of one of their tunes – a project which will no doubt be met with much anticipation. Following lauded live support slots with Alabama 3 and Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, Killaflaw went on to perform at this year’s Secret Garden Party, providing one of the festival’s highlights.

The band is thrilled to announce
that Eddy Temple-Morris and Tom Bellamy will be producing the band's debut album
'Sleaze and Grit' under their tag 'Losers'.
For those of you that don't know
him, Eddy is the legendary UK DJ that combines rock and dance music to create a
unique sound that gets rockers grooving and dance acolytes moshing. He also gets
away with it. He broadcasts on XFM The Remix and has been first choice tour DJ

Tom formed part of the rock band The
Cooper Temple Clause, where his writing, recording and performing contribution
helped define their sound an build a massive fanbase worldwide. He is a
multi-instrumentalist genius with a vast knowledge of the mechanics of music. He
can also be currently found providing the live drums for the band White Belt
Yellow Tag.
Production begins on the record over
the next couple of weeks and is planned for release early spring 2010. We'll

Killaflaw - ‘Set Me On Fire’
Following impeccable recent live showings at The Secret Garden Party and a triumphant homecoming gig at Liverpool’s Mathew Street festival, Dance Rock titans Killaflaw are readying themselves to drop their second EP of ‘09 on October 12th. The Dynamic duo have also signed up to receive the remix treatment from highly lauded dance mega stars the Utah Saints. With this much momentum conjured now is the perfect time to unleash the next phase in Killaflaw’s mission for complete domination.
‘Set Me On Fire’ is comprised of four eccentrically energised cuts. Starting out with the original version of the title track we find Liverpool’s fastest rising stars in predictably manic mindset. ‘Set Me On Fire’ is essentially a blues number belted out to the backdrop of a seedy Acid Jazz club all nighter. Vocalist Benn Helm’s desperate croons find solace in the cold comfort of Andy Paton’s techno-punk thrash. The pulsating melodies burrow away before fizzing seamlessly into Paton’s driving instrumental. Teetering on just the right side of insanity ‘Set Me On fire’ is eventually plucked from the edge and nourished back to health by Helm’s soulful bark questioning ‘Lord, if I win would you lift me up higher’?
The EP rumbles on with two other versions of ‘Set Me On Fire’, the Radio Edit and the frenetic ‘Tragic Flaw’ mix which oozes dirty breakbeats and comes complete with a devilishly dramatic build up, eventually erupting into a bass-led beat down.
Rounding out the musical masterclass is the atmospheric ‘Japanese Tourist’. Announcing it’s arrival with staccato loops ‘JT’ is a moody piece of electro funk which amply showcases Andy’s Paton’s knack for crafting a canvas that is anything but relegated to background status.
Killaflaw will be spreading their unique brand of mayhem across the UK this October before headlining spots at Liverpool Music Week and In The City 2009, an American showcase created by Filter Magazine. My advice would be to catch them while you can, they play host to an incendiary live show and rather enviably have an ever growing legion of faithful followers. In the meantime, pick up this EP and check out their MySpace for more details on their forthcoming exciting endeavours.

Hello there!
It's been a few weeks and there's been loads going on to tell everyone.
First up, the band is about ready to hit the road on their first proper UK
tour and everyone is ready to take the Killaflaw sound out and about. Very
exciting!
The tour includes showcase shows with the BBC (October 14th, Oakford Social,
Reading) and Filter Magazine (October 15th, 93 Feet East, London and October
17th, The Walkabout, Manchester). The Manchester show is part of the official
In The City 2009 festival and everyone is delighted to be involved.
The band's next record 'Set Me On Fire' goes out on October 12th and already
the single is playlisted on the BBC, NME Radio and a host of regional stations.
Talking of the Beeb, the guys are doing a live set for Dave Monks at BBC Radio Merseyside
on October 4th from 8pm. They'll be talking about the single, the tour and
other stuff.
Looking beyond the tour, the band has been invited to play at Liverpool
Music Week on November 11th, as part of MTV's showcase event at Mojo. Look out
for Zane Lowe doing his thing too!
The band is also pleased to be playing at a Versus Cancer event at
Indiependence in Wigan on December 5th. It's a huge night with proceeds going
to supporting various cancer charities. As well as the band, there are DJ sets
from the modest legend that is Clint Boon and XFM colleague Gareth Brooks. It
will be a top night and worth everyone's involvement.
On the record front, Utah Saints are on with their remix of one of our
tracks, as are Ed Cosens and Reading's own MidiMidis. We'll have more for you
over the next month or so on how you will get to hear them.
Finally, the album is more or less complete and is just in need of the
science to transform it from a good record into a great record. All will be
revealed over the Autumn about the release plan.
That's about it for now, but don't forget the band are on Facebook,
as well as MySpace and we tend to
put more 'realtime' stuff on there. You can also find the guys on Twitter, if that's your thing.
We'll be keeping everyone up to date on the goings on when we're on the
road, so make sure you keep checking the sites.
All the best,
M
