One night I dreamed I was
walking along the beach alone.
Many scenes from my life flashed across
the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
There was only
ever one set of footprints.
This didn't bother me,
because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I would just solve my problems myself.

Most people pick some cause or fight to join. For some progressives,
it's the environment; for others it's helping the needy. Some
conservatives fight against those causes, putting money before the
environment and their own wealth before helping the needy. Some people
just want to spread their own irrationality and superstition. I do my
best to make sure other freethinkers and skeptics realize they are not
alone.
I especially like it when I can make someone with doubts
about religion and faith laugh at their own superstitions. Several
times I've found that to be the start down the path of doubt. Laughing
at the comedy routines of George Carlin and Bill Hicks helped to start
me on the road to doubt.
I spent most of my late childhood and
all of my teenage years thinking I was one of the very, very few who
doubted Christianity. It wasn't until I was in college that I actually
met another person that didn't believe in Jesus. It wasn't until I
started blogging and reading blogs on MySpace that I realized there
were many other people that had the same questions and doubts that I
did.
Now I consider it MY FIGHT to mock Christians. If someone
else hears or reads what I have done and they realize they are not
alone, then I am fighting the good fight. I consider it MY FIGHT to
show people how silly superstition really is. If I can get just one
person to think about what they believe, then I am fighting the good
fight. I consider it MY FIGHT to spread a love for REASON. If you start
thinking for yourself, then I am fighting the good fight.
I will
admit, I am not doing my best to help world peace or feed the starving
children in Africa. I am not donating thousands of dollars to help some
kids in Northeast Louisiana go to college. I'm not trying to save the
dolphins or even all the dogs at the pound. That's not my fight. It's
not that I don't care... I just have what I consider a higher priority.
If I had unlimited time and unlimited funds, I would do my best to
tackle those issues as well. But almost everyone fights for what they
believe in... the battles they think need to be won.
To me,
getting rid of religious superstition is the single most important
thing I can do. Every little baby step helps. Every joke, every jibe I
do... I tear down a little bit of religion. Every stab, every comment,
every cut-down... I am destroying the hold of superstition on myself,
other doubters and hopefully on the ignorant faithful.
I have a
few other causes that interest me, but this is what I think is most
important. For years I thought it was enough just to speak my mind and
maybe get one or two people to think about what they believed, but
seeing the impact that Randi, Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris have had...
I realize that I need to do more.
My ultimate goal is that
people will look back at the superstitious and religious today and
laugh. Just like we look back at the silly beliefs of our ancestors
that believed Thor caused thunder, I want our descendants to look back
on us and think our beliefs in Jesus and Mohammad are silly. I want to
do my best to make this happen as quickly as possible. I know it will
take generations and that I'll never see it... which makes me sad...
but every little bit that I do counts toward that goal.
Everybody has to believe in something. I believe I will do my best to destroy irrational beliefs.

Today, I have made a discovery that should probably not have been made... I can get to MySpace from work. Lately, I have been much more active on Facebook because I have been using it from work. MySpace was (I thought) locked down from work, but not any more... For those of you that use both and are interested in befriending me over there, this is my profile: Me on FacebookAnd this is the "fan page" for the Agnostic Anarch: Agnostic Anarch on FacebookI don't really consider anyone a 'fan' of my Agnostic Anarch persona, per se... but if you like the humor and such that I sometimes share here, you should enjoy that there, too. Feel free to befriend my regular profile, too. For a while I was only befriending people that I actually knew, but once I made a few anti-theist jokes most of them fled. So now I know who my _real_ friends are! ~AA

I don't want to... but
I need to sell my silver 2006 Honda Big Ruckus. Anyone in DFW, Texas
looking to buy one? I owe about $3,000 on him, and he's got about 11k
miles. Purchased and did all the maintenance at D&S Honda in
Arlington, and I have all the paperwork. He's never been wrecked or
laid down. I'm going to miss him, but I want him to go to a rider that
will love him. Contact me if you're interested. More info about the Honda Big Ruckus (in general) Big Ruckus ReviewWiki Big Ruckus articleI put an album in my photos section of my Honda Big Ruckus. They were taken not long after I got'em, but nothing has changed 'cept the miles. Oh, and I got him new wheels about 2k miles ago. ~AA

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you could go back in time to actually _see Jesus_?! Well, that is assuming he was a real historical person... which I doubt. Here are the adventures of one such time traveller! Somebody had to go tell the people what all Jesus was getting wrong. . . ~AA
