I would be most happy if you could become a fan on my Facebook Music page.  :D

I am getting back into the swing of songs and will be adding new material on this page, under the "My Band" tab.  I have just added 3 demo snips there and would be thrilled if you would take a listen!

Cheers,

I was going to Bermuda - with my family.  We had packed up.  We had arrived at the airport.  We had arrived at the gate, all ready for departure and head over heels about the prospect of escaping to Bermuda just before the onset of winter.  We had been waiting at the gate for some hours.  When the announcement was made that our section was boarding, we made our way to the gatekeeper and began handing him our boarding passes.  When it was my turn, I found that I did not have a boarding pass.  Not because I lost it - but because I never got one.  I was waiting there with my family all those hours, but never went to the check-in area to get my boarding pass.  There was nothing we could do.  My family had to leave to Bermuda, without me - leaving me standing at the gate, hating life.

I woke up at this point, from my dream.  And I felt so relieved.  This was one of the most real dreams I have had in recent memory.  I was so relieved to find out it hadn't happened.  And, I fell back asleep...

I was back in the airport - and things somehow were looking better.  Because, either Phynn or Gareth Emery were also going to Bermuda, and (one of them) happened to be scheduled to go shortly thereafter, for free.  And, they had an extra ticket.  And I could go with them.  So this was the plan.  And once again, I got to the point where I was waiting in line, ready to board.  But for some reason, I had a sense of uncertainty, and I almost felt like this was too good to be true.  After some contemplation, I asked the gatekeeper, whether this was actually true, whether I was about to board a plane with Phynn or Gareth Emery on a free ride to Bermuda.  And he told me, with a look of discern, that no, it was not true.  The plane had left 20 minutes ago.  But, they wanted me to at least feel some sense of happiness, so they hadn't told me yet.  I was like, WTF?

Some of you may have seen these already but wanted to share for the rest of the class.

I didn't use a tripod for any of these, but I did use ledges or other supporting structures to balance. As noted, many were hand-held (using burst shots). This is handy for instance when, you want to take a night shot in the middle of the street, with cars around.

Have a listen to my Last.fm radio station sometime. Let me explain quickly how this works - these aren't tracks I have picked myself, by hand. It's based on the 12K+ songs I have listened to on my computer, since signing up for Last.fm and installing the Winamp plugin in late 2005. So what you hear is based on a conglomerate sampling of all the tracks I have listened to over the past 3 years. You'll hear lots of hard stuff, some dancy stuff, lots of "alternative" and 80's, and some popular stuff.

What's nice is if a song comes on that you don't like, you can go to the next track - so it's even better than a "regular" radio station in that sense, because you have some control over it. Check it out!

Another cool thing is, it gives you a little paragraph about the artist that often contains interesting information you may not have known!

click here to open the radio station!

I also embedded it on my main page.

wowowowowow. I wasn't planning on going tonight - a rare occurrence for sure because I do like JXL but the last times it hasn't been too great - and I was feelin a bit lazy - but a couple of friends I was with wanted to go to Vision. Anyways, boy am I glad I went. Seriously if this show happened and I didn't go and I somehow found out about it later on, I would have been fukin PISSED. This was a F'in SHOW. I got there at 12ish and it was already a mad house. Darkwave Disco I think was playing before and he was just in full control of every person in that club. Played some shockers and it only drove the crowd wilder.

I wasn't expecting more than the last time I saw JXL. But I was totally blown away. This show was far and above better than any other time I've seen him - it was on a different level. He's always had the energy in his stage performance and that's always been great - but I just never got totally into what he played - even the Blue Pill Red Pill song.. it's nice, but it just was never one of my favs - not even close.  This show had a real impact on me - and made me into a bonafide fan.  Probably my favorite production up til this point was his remix of Feeder - Broken.  Just a really slow, melancholic track that makes you reflect and think about your life.

Anyways, back to the show.  So, early on, I heard the beginnings of "Go" starting, and that was great because I love that song, and furthermore this was a version I hadn't heard before (I know that's not saying much given that the song is one of the most remixed songs ever). So that was going on and was sweet. What happened next sent me up a red carpet straight to cloud 9 - and I mean one of the really really nice red carpets - finished in velour with gold tassels running down the sides, the whole nine yards. Yeah. The chorus of Enjoy the Silence was mixed on top of Go - and instantly this became one of the top 5 clubbing experiences for me, ever (not a simple feat, seriously). It fuking SLAMMED in that room and just blew us all away. And, I know I'm just a tad biased - but this is not entirely the bias talking. Even if it didn't have the DM elements in it - it still would have slammed - although it would have not been a top 5 for me - but still, I would have been impressed. The DM lyrics in there - god - it was PERFECTION. It's the first time I heard both songs mixed together - they worked together SO WELL it was unbelievable. Really really nice. He followed it with a modified version of his "Talk" remix (Coldplay) I think one or two songs after that - and that slammed too. And then he just kept going and going, until the end. And oddly enough that's what he told me too after the show, he said he really enjoyed it all the way through to the end. It's one of the best nights I've had at Vision.

One day, Jenren was walking past her pumpkin patch in Gobeville and she noticed one of the pumpkins had turned into a large multi-sphered robot - this plant had then become to the shape of a vexed tulip and appeared to cast false shadows in a mild paste.  Noticing this immedical, albeit subcluded into the mega-robot and committed for generael klaxon using the built in "matzo-machine", ergo spotty.  Once she had reached the evil sorcerer delobbo's castle she was once gained able to use the dessor-launching machine and catapult herself into the dark deep underground dungeon of the sorcerer's castle, which was high up in the sky above the feigned sea of pillage.  delobbo did not fare are well in the exxchange as he was not expecting her sudden company, that suddenly at least. But nonetheless he was ready for the battle at hand.  stay tune for part 2

So I think I'm officially a Rihanna fan, as of last night.  I only knew a couple of her songs prior to that, but the show just blew me away - she has an incredible voice and put on quite a performance.  Such a stage presence too.  It was great to see Vision transformed into a live concert venue - and great to see her perform there.  Here are a few shots to start off, I will have more later.

Something I wrote in the late '90s that I recently dug up.  Some weird stuff but I think I probably still believe most of what I wrote.

Thoughts on Remixing

Greetings. I have to also provide you with some background as to why I am doing what I am doing. I have to admit that my tendency to make remixes of my own stems from what I think is the demise of the classic remix, at least generally speaking. The trend for the past several years has been to produce remixes that sound nothing like the original song, except for a few samples or loops here and there that remind you once in a while that, "Hey, this was that song at some point." So anyway, I began to question these remixes, because it seemed like many times, I bought a new remix cd single or 12", and found that the original song was essentially nowhere to be found; it lost its character somewhere. I grow to love some song on the original album, in its original form, and there are many remixes I love (hats off to The Beatmasters, CJ Bolland, Phil Harding, Jam & Spoon, Alan Moulder, François Kevorkian, Paul Oakenfold, William Orbit, Steve Osborne, Mark Saunders, Adrian Sherwood, and Mark Stent, to name a few). And don't get me wrong: I love quite a few of those mixes that depart from the original. But it's just that, I also want some remixes that are more like the original. So, here's my advice to any and all remixers and remixer-wannabes out there, myself included: do your crazy departures from the originals, but ALSO do genuine "remixes" of the original. By my definition, a "remix" is a song that takes the original, and while keeping the basic structure intact, rearranges certain pieces around the extremities. I may be wrong with that definition, but so be it; this is how I approach remixing.

But even in the midst of these radical remixes, there are a growing number of which I listen to and think "why did they do that to this song?", or "this song had so much remixing potential". Barrel of a Gun and It's No Good by Depeche Mode come to my mind as prime examples of this phenomenon (Except, of course, for the Club 69 remixes of It's No Good, which for some reason are not on CD (???). Even though these are totally different from the original, the vocals are still sorta there, and this can make a world of difference to a remix, rather than just hearing remnants of vocals placed here and there). But once again, I feel this way only when there aren't any other mixes to choose from that sound more like the original. On that note, I have to salute Depeche Mode on the Useless remixes... Excellent. And what do I see as the major difference between the Useless remixes and the two earlier songs? DEGREE OF DRIFT FROM THE ORIGINAL. All the Useless remixes (except for the CJ Bolland one, but I still like that one because it has all the vocals in it, and lends the dancy feel to the song) contain the trademark bassline from the original song, thus retaining one of the aspects which I believe make the song a whole.

So what I am setting out to do is to elaborate on the track using the original as a framework: a spiced-up version of the song, which essentially retains all of the original's elements, but is also coated with a generous helping of beats and other trimmings. I think the best way to give you a representation of the mixes I love is to here cite my list of favorite mixes, which is by no means complete. Now, you will find that there are mixes on this list which are very different from the original; I may like these mixes for different reasons. For instance, the "Conspiracy Theory" mix of "Faith Healer" by Recoil is much different from the original, but I love the instrumentation and arrangement of this mix. And plus, the vocals and other patterns from the original are still in place. Also, I tend to be a bit biased towards my favorite artists, you may notice... For some reason, I've included track times for some of these... Now just lay back, and think pleasant thoughts:
