Free + 1 drink (please order from the waitress upstairs)

* Wait – what? Japan? Who? Why? Yeah. On 11/20 I’m heading over to Tokyo to try my luck with music overseas. But worry not! I’m back in NYC in June when I’ll be doing a CD release concert and tour for “Japanese Satellites.” =) But since I’m going to be crazy busy preparing for the move up until 11/20, come on out this Thursday, have a drink, stock up on copies of “Strangely Beautiful” (I need to get rid of them or else my luggage will weigh a TON) and we can do a rousing 80s cartoon medley sing-along. Or something. Maybe drinks after the show. Iunno yet. You know Danny + planning = oil + water…

==============================..=====

Hey all!

I just returned from the recording studio and I'm ecstatic! We laid down drum tracks for the songs on my forthcoming 7th album, "Japanese Satellites." And they sound incredible. This album will blow you out of the water!

“Japanese Satellites” will feature many talented New York City musicians. Rooted in folk-pop storytelling, “Japanese Satellites” will contain elements of jazz, funk, hip-hop, chamber-pop, dance, musical theater and punk. It will reflect stylist influences from The Postal Service to Ben Folds. Quite simply, it will be amazing =)

Will, will, will. Wait - why am I saying "will?"

Because recording an album is an expense I can't afford without your support.

Your extreme generosity helped make “Strangely Beautiful,” my previous album, possible. I couldn't have done that album without you and I definitely can't do “Japanese Satellites” without you.

Will you help me meet my fundraising goal of $15,000?

►► DONATE HERE: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-..bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&..hosted_button_id=8447965 ◄◄

Sure, $15,000 sounds like a crazy amount, but think about it this way – over 1500 of you have supported me by joining my mailing list and being my MySpace and Facebook friends.

If each of you donate just $10 (the price of two drinks at Starbucks!), I can easily reach my fundraising goal in no time!

Why $15,000?

1. Studio fees - each song takes approximately 11 hours to rehearse, record and mix. At a studio rate of $65 an hour, that comes to approximately $715 per song. At 10 songs that's $7,050.

2. Musician fees / session work - each song involves a minimum of bass, guitars, drums, keyboards and vocals. Each musician gets paid $75/song. That comes to $375 a song. At 10 songs that’s $3,750.*

3. CD design fees - $1000

4. CD mastering fees - $800

5. CD duplication fees - $2000

6. Misc. expenses (gas, tolls for musicians) - $400

* As many of you know, it's close to impossible to make it as a full time musician in New York City. I strongly believe that all musicians must be fairly paid for contributions. Your generosity ensures that each musician gets paid a respectable hourly wage. The value they will add to this album cannot be overstated – it is, quite simply, priceless.

Now I know these are tough economic times. The recession's taking a toll on all of us.

So as a way to thank you for your continued support:

1. The South Williamsburg [$10] - A thank you in the CD liner notes and a pre-release copy of Japanese Satellites

2. The Hipsterville [$25] - A thank you in the CD liner notes, a pre-release copy of the CD and 2 free tickets to my CD release concert (a $40 value!)

3. The Brooklyn [$50] - A thank you in the CD liner notes, a pre-release copy of the CD, 2 free tickets to my CD release concert and a chance to win a $25 Amazon.com gift certificate (a $65 value!)

4. The New York City [$100] - A thank you in the CD liner notes, 2 pre-release copies of the CD, 4 free tickets to my CD release concert and a chance to win a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate (a $130 value!)

5. My First Born Child [$200 or more] - Um, kidding. Maybe.

►► DONATE HERE: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-..bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&..hosted_button_id=8447965 ◄◄

You too can play an active roll in this project. And you should be proud of what we've accomplished together!

Thanks as always for you love, support and allowing me to pursue this crazy dream!

Danny

P.S. At the end of the day, isn't this what life's about? Being able to tap into your passions, find your calling and follow your dreams? You’re helping me live mine and for that I cannot thank you enough!

2. (NJ) Sensitive Guys with Guitars Are Back! – 11/7
**************************************************************

I’m honored to contribute my quirky 80s folk-pop shinanigans to the following important cause – and to do it in bromantic fashion with my argyle-clad brothers in the SG Unit (Sensitive Guys with Guitars, 50):

RAPS (Rutgers Association of Philippine Students)
presents “SUKOB” – a charity concert for Typhoon Ondoy Relief (Benefitting the Ayala Foundation USA)
Saturday, November 7, 2009
7:30pm - 11:00pm [Doors open at 7:00pm]
Busch Campus - ARC 103
618 Allison Road
Piscataway, NJ
$10/$5 with donation of medical supplies

RAPS, with assistance from FLASH and Sensitive Guys with Guitars is proud to present SUKOB, a showcase benefiting the victims of Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana).

Typhoon Ondoy, which brought more rainfall than Hurricane Katrina, left an impact that brought the Philippines to a "state of calamity" For many of us here in the United States, the storm literally hit home, as many Filipino Americans were unable to contact their family members back in the Philippines.

With that in mind, we felt the word Sukob was appropriate, as it means to shelter together under something--more often than not, an umbrella. The word symbolizes not only our longing to help, but a shared struggle with those back in the Philippines to rebuild what the Typhoon had swept away.

All monetary donations will go to the Ayala Foundation USA. Donations of medical supplies will also be accepted.

Featuring:
Sensitive Guys with Guitars: Jay Legaspi, Matt Sia, John-Flor Sisante, John Violago, Danny Katz, Ashley Clack, RAPS Dance Troupe, RAPS Cultural Dance Troupe, FLASH Dance Troupe

All proceeds go to Ayala Foundation USA.

Please donate medicine/medical supplies, such as over the counter pain relievers (tylenol, advil), cold/flu, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, bandages, etc.

Opening for The Good Asian Drivers (http://www.goodasiandrivers.com/)

About The Good Asian Drivers (who I adore!!!):
Melissa Li’s music, a catchy blend of folk-rock and pop, has been heralded for its honest lyrics and bold sound. A seasoned songwriter, Li’s voice and style are distinct, carrying both the urgency of Ani DiFranco and the charm of Alana Davis. Melissa started her career performing in Boston at the tender age of 16. In 2007, she received the prestigious Jonathan Larson grant for her talent in music composition. Her most notable appearances include Boston Pride, The Somerville Theater, and numerous colleges and universities across the nation. Her highly-anticipated debut album, “2 Seconds Away” released in 2008 to enthusiastic reviews.

Kit Yan’s spoken word tackles race and gender with candor, eloquence, and humor. Hailed by the press as “a slam force to be reckoned with,” Yan’s resolute delivery packs a mighty punch, leaving his audience completely transfixed. Wittily crafted and genuinely passionate, his pieces are rare treasures amongst a new generation of slam poets. Accomplished beyond his years, Yan started competing in Boston with professionals twice his age when he was just a college student. Before the age of 21, he landed a coveted spot in the Lizard Lounge National Slam Team, competed in the Individual World Poetry Slam, and won the world’s largest slam.

Hey all,

Thanks for coming out last night and apologies for the rather... begging nature of yesterday's email =)

And while I'm on apologies, sorry this notification is so last minute - blame it on the je je je je je jet lag (<--- admittedly that doesn't work as well as "blame it on the ah-ah ah-ah ah-al-co-hol")

I'm doing two shows tonight, the first in Trenton, NJ, the second in Philly, PA.

1. TRENTON, NJ - 6PM
Trenton Downtown Association (http://www.trenton-downtown.com/tdablog/) presents this day-long festival. My segment is shared with Jewelry by Susan Freeman of Whimsy Design.
When: 6-9 PM (my sets about 2 hours long - expect some originals, lots of random covers from 70s-90s)
Where: Cafe Ole
Address: 126 S Warren St, Trenton, NJ 08608
Phone: (609) 396-2233
Cost: F-R-E-E [???]

2. PHILADELPHIA, PA - 11PM
I'll be one of 6 featured performers at ASIAC's (http://www.asiac.org/) JADED LOUNGE event.
When: Doors open at 9pm. My set - just one song - is around midnight but will be there getting hammered from 10:30pm on.
Where: 12 Air Command (it's a gay bar, gay bar...) http://www.12thair.com/index_fri.html
Address: 254 S. 12th St., Philadelphia, PA
Cost: [???]

I'll be riding the rails (NJ Transit and SEPTA). If you wanna join, call or text me 917-561-9042.

Thanks all,
Danny
