Cura

Te sigue la mala suerte

Te siguen tus decisions

Don’t lay your sins on me yet

Just live and breathe your efforts

Con agua bendita negra

Y sapos a media noche

Somos los hijos de dios y de un curandero

Deciding on your fate cuz you believe what you believe

Higher than a prayer sent on love and lower than a man out of hope

Años de recompensa

El viento dispara cuentos

Somos los hijos de dios y de un curandero

Clear Our Name

Traveled far to settle in this land

Journey fast, our mission to the sea

It’s really all our story

It’s really all our story

My family gone

And scattered all around

We mean no harm. We only want to work

It’s really all our story

It’s really all our story

I’ll inherit this ancient mess

but leave me thinking just a little bit longer

See if I can clear our name

We’ve been here long

Where would you have us go

A vicious fear would leave you plain

I don’t believe your story

I don’t believe your story

18 wheels he travels this whole land

wants for his own to know much more

It’s only half the story

It’s only half the story

I’ll inherit this ancient mess

but leave me thinking just a little bit longer

See if I can clear our name

Heavy Water

There were people who lived here

With their mother’s good wishes

There were boys with their dirty shoes…girls all around

There’s a crowd that formed here

From the podium a message rang

He’d come for all of your good wishes…and you father’s good advice

You leave with what you came

You give your heart to break

Leave who you know

Don’t know what to take

When we pass

Are we lines in the songs of the birds, or a place in the atmosphere?

When we pass

Are we whisked to the place where the stars are born in the sky?

Could you think on a day like this?

When the weight of the world cuts the guilt and the shock

Sail a lake in Norway

With a charge on vessel

Kill a hundred save a million…sad relief from underground

There’s a war that raged here

Atomic powers end in whispers

Pray the soldier that fell here took refuge in the sunset

You leave with what you came

You give your heart to break

Leave who you know

Don’t know what to take

When we pass

Are we lines in the songs of the birds, or a place in the atmosphere?

When we pass

Are we whisked to the place where the stars are born in the sky?

Could you think on a day like this?

When the weight of the world cuts the guilt and the shock

Who would you save on a day like this?

All the boats watch them sink but the war it will end

Cien Fuegos

Cien fuegos a la nostalgia

Como nudos las memorias

Solo creo en lo que viene

Vieja amiga la manana

Este lugar me quiere enloquecer, me quiere enloquecer

Por lo visto

Este lugar me quiere enloquecer, me quiere enloquecer

Por lo visto

Son muchas las masetas

Donde escuendo todas mis llaves

Ya no entrar mas por la ventana

Y pisar fuerte por la puerta

Este lugar me quiere enloquecer, me quiere enloquecer

Por lo visto

Este lugar me quiere enloquecer, me quiere enloquecer

Por lo visto

It’s gone alright but I leave this now

Find a new home

Este lugar me quiere enloquecer, me quiere enloquecer

Por lo visto

Este lugar me quiere enloquecer, me quiere enloquecer

Por lo visto

Signals

When something’s calling from far back

It signals it signals it signals

When something’s calling from far back

When what you need is beside you

You feel it, you feel it, you know it

When what you need is beside you

It’s simple science, like ancient logic

It’s all there

Like sudden romance or midnight swimmers

It’s just there

It’s just there

It’s all there

It’s all there

The more you know it the stranger

It’s simple it’s simple it’s simple

The more you know it the stranger

When something’s calling from far back

It signals it signals it signals

When something’s calling from far back

Like heat from close palms or Russian stations

It’s just there

Like grateful glances or knowing siblings

It’s all there

It’s all there

It’s all there

It’s all there

Signal back we’re all here

Signal back we’re all here

Surface Streets

I’m sorry it’s so strange

Put up with all the changes

And still it means as much

Grew up in the same house

Seen a lot debt unpaid

And still your spirit is rich

Take it as the hardest lesson

Keeping all you love united

You know it will be alright

You’ll be doing what you want

You’ll be walking with giants

It’s your good grace

Fearless

Forward

I’ll do my best to guide you right

No matter how dark it gets you must always keep your head

So lonely I could crack

You came like a gift

A little gift

Only you believe like I do

Only you will last like I can

The hand we’re dealt is just right

You’ll be doing what you want

You’ll be bigger than all this

It’s your good grace

Fearless

Forward

I’ll do my best to guide you right

No matter how dark it gets you must always keep your head

No matter how dark it gets I will guide you right

As long as you need

As long as you need me

Pajaros

Wait. Think. Fast. at La Cita

"...By nine, La Cita’s patio was shoulder to shoulder.  Inside, not sated by their freshly silkscreened t-shirts (accordion or security camera, a dilemma. In the end, the accordions seemed to win out, less blatantly political, maybe) or the bean-cheap Tecate, the crowd, still dancing to the DJ despite the tangible impatience, clustered close to the stage.  When Echo Park’s Wait. Think. Fast. climbed aboard and took the reins, explosions rocketed backwards through crowd and Jacqueline Santillan pined and longed and grasped desperately upward, her voice riding ghostly waves.  The band spins a glittering tempestuous type of pop, owing much to the glowing doom of post-punk, but constantly overriding any possibility of stale ennui with lusty detonations and bounding, unstoppable rhythms.  The necessity of dancing is implied and understood.  Once infected, the steaming crowd could not be contained: as Wait. Think. Fast. wound down, before their final song ended, requests for an encore murmured and echoed through La Cita, from the patio forward.  When they obliged, legs moved, forward and backward and then to the side."

Look Alive

There's a longing in all great hearts some with wings and some with scars

There's an angst deriding good cheer, like a relic pulled from grasp

In the city there's a great outcry, Oh the fire! Oh the fire!

In the city there's a great laughter heard from canyons over plains

Could it be that we've been this way too long?

Could it be that we've been this way too long?

Look alivelook alive there's something in the world for you!

Look alivelook alive there's something in the day for you!

Look alivelook alive there's someone in this world for you!

Look alivelook alive there's something in the day for you!

In the end there will be nothing here, but the way we came and went

In the city there's a great outcry. Oh the fire! Oh the fire!

Could it be that we've been this way too long?

Could it be that we've been here for too long?

Look alivelook alive there's something in the world for you!

Look alivelook alive there's something in the day for you!

Look alivelook alive there's someone in this world for you!

Look alivelook alive there's something in the day for you!

"The passing of time leaves empty lives
Waiting to be filled ... And when you're dancing and laughing
And finally living, Hear my voice in your head
And think of me kindly..."

Here we are, another year behind us...We've played a ton of great shows with bands like Summer Darling, The Kissing Cousins, The Helio Sequence, Rademacher, Mezzanine Owls, The Hectors, Obi Best, Juliette Commagere, the Monolators, Fol Chen and many others.

We finished "Vuleve Al Mar" in Sept and have been excited to see all the support for this record. Thanks to all the fans, writers and bloggers who took the time to listen and put some positive words down. Hopefully the love will continue to shine upon us in 2009. Mark your calendars for Jan 6 as "Cien Fuegos" will be featured on KCRW as the pick of the day download!!

We had the great pleasure of doing a live session on Mark Torres' show Travel Tips for Aztlan on KPFK. Mariluz Gonzalez and Mark do an amazing job of showcasing new alt latino talent and we were honored to be a part of their party. Tune in Saturday nights, 10pm, 90.7 KPFK.

This year we played The Troubadour!!!
Photobucket
which was a big deal to us... especially opening up for Juliette Commagere and Obi Best. See the excitment in our faces as we wait backstage:
Photobucket
and then do our "thang":

We've also had the honor of being invited to perform on tele @ Univision twice in Dec. Once on "Tu Estilo" and then again on "Primer Edicion" (like Good Morning America) at which we were given the royal treatment. Parents called immediately afterwards to tell us the traffic guy couldn't stop talking about how he dug us!! AmAZING!

We want to thank all of our allies. The super cool people who send us words of encouragement via MySpace everyday and come to our shows. The world is in a strange turn and we're blessed to be able to make music and live in this alternate universe called Los Angeles; where the sun is always shining, the people are gorgeous and you can catch a rad show any night of the week. Thanks to Nik Ahlstam, Mariluz Gonzalez, Sean Foye, Neil Schield, Chris Newman, Esq., Espie, Favi & Sandra, Dj Pajaro, Carmen & Jeanette Santillan, Jake Gideon, the coolest dudes ever - Charlie and Chris @ L.A. Record, Marco Amador, Liz Garo, Kohl King, The Heywoods, The Kissing Cousins, Shiloe, The Hectors, Jerry, L.A. Underground, NPR, Sam @ Airspace, Kevin & Buzzbands.la, Randall Roberts, Paul Saucido, Paula Yoo, Ana Lenchantin, Tim Plumley, Web In Front, Mark Chalecki, Aaron Espinoza and you.

Get visions of bread lines and stock market crashes outta yer heads. The world is much more interesting than this and it's gonna be alright. fuck fear.

We wish you all the very best in 2009.

love,
us
