Seeing What Grows From The Seedy Seeds
by Colby Markwell // Fearless Radio

"
It’s always a feat when a band decides to go beyond something that can be put into a simple genre. …Thankfully, we still have groups around like The Seedy Seeds"

The Seedy Seeds Count The Days
by Mike Gutierrez // QRO Magazine

"
There have been some rumblings and grumblings lately in these virtual pages that the indie scene has been inundated over the last couple of years by two different trends, American/alt-country and indietronica… Well, if these two trending tsunamis crashed into each other and washed away the pretenders, we'd likely find washed up on shore a pair of skinny jeans, a bale of hay, and the Seedy Seeds as the last band left standing."

The Seedy Seeds Count The Days

"
it seamlessly fits a myriad of moods, perfectly capturing emotions and thought with efficiency and effectivenessthe songwriting is absolutely astounding"

The Young Republic, The Seedy Seeds at Antarctica
by Shae Moseley // Riverfront Times

"
The mix seems unlikely, but strong, catchy choruses and smart storytelling always bring the band's songs back to familiar sonic territory."

Hello!!!!!

Last week we premiered our brand new video for Drive Me to the Center on a bona fide riverboat at DANCE_MF's one-year anniversary par-tay (on a boat!). We Seeds, with our sea legs, fancy all-white costumes complete with a captain's hat, and vast knowledge of pirates songs, had a blast, and now we want to share our new video with you!

Drive Me to the Center was directed by Kevin Bayer of Soft City Lights, with a bunch of help from his fabulous crew made up of many fine folk from the PROJECTMILL. We'd like to send a special TSS thank you to all those involved in the making of our video.

Since our video release, we've received mention on My Old Kentucky Blog, Each Note Secure and Buzzgrinder, among others. Drive Me to the Center is on YouTube, Vimeo and soon to be on many other sites. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out!!!!

Current mood:genius!
Hi!

Tomorrow night we are debuting a new song at The Southgate House so we thought we'd give y'all a chance to have a listen before our show. The song is called Tired Enough To Dive—have a listen and tell us what you think! Then come see us play it for the first time ever!!!! By the way, the first 25 supergeniuses to enter the ballroom May 1 will get a copy of the sweet show poster (pictured above).

Now for the rest of our news… There are a lot of Seedy things to discuss!

ON THE BOOKS!
The Seedy Seeds are as excited as ever to announce we are now working with booking agent extraordinaire Kris Kerry of Lost Barrio Artists. Kris is a super-swell guy, and with his help, we'll be hitting the road quite a bit in the future bringing our sweet, sweet jams to eager ears all over the country. To reach Kris, email him at kris@lostbarrioartists.com or call him at 520 481-9813.

AWARDS, ACCOLADES
Within the same week, we Seeds were hammered with two great honors. First we received the "Best CD Release Party" award in CityBeat's Best of Cincinnati issue. Read about it here : http://www.bestofcincinnati.com/out.html

Next, we heard word we've been nominated by Cincy Groove Magazine for May 2009 Artist of the Month. The voting is done online here : http://www.cincygroove.com/?q=node/1121

NEW WEBSITE
We are very excited to announce we will be launching a brand new website design very very soon. The new website design boasts a more streamlined store, easy to find lyrics for all our songs, and lots and lots of pictures of The Seedy Seeds!

SXSW
We Seeds recently returned from our first foray into the South by Southwest Music festival in Austin, Texas. We played three showcases, met some amazing folks, stayed out way too late, and ate enough tex-mex to keep us settled for an entire year. We are in the process (aka slightly behind but hopefully not for long!) of documenting our fun on our travel blog : http://theseedyseeds.blogspot.com/

CINCYPUNK FEST VIII
Each year we've been a band, we've been invited to play one of the neatest festivals in all of the Midwest. CincyPunk Fest is a charity fundraiser over two nights featuring nearly 40 bands at The Southgate House. This year all proceeds benefited a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter in Harrison, Ohio called Animal Adoption Foundation. Our set was super fun! We debuted a new song, got real sweaty on stage, gave people disgustingly awesome sweaty hugs and high-fives, and auctioned off a picnic for charity. If you live in the area and missed it this year, make sure to get there next year!

NEW SONGS!
We Seeds are writing like crazy! First we debuted a new song called Ethel at CincyPunk Fest VIII, we're debuting another new song May 1 at The Southgate House, and we're already composing two additional songs to be debuted in the magnificent future. Everything's coming up Seedy!

Current mood:  accomplished
Happy New Year!

2008 was quite a year for us Seeds, and 2009 is looking to be at LEAST a 315% improvement on 2008.

The Seedy Seeds ended the Year of the Rat with a run of five artist-in-residency shows at the historic Southgate House in Newport, Kentucky. You can catch some songs and our New Years Eve countdown over on the Youtube:

This year we also gained another member, a fantastic drummer bearing the name of Brian. Brian brings years of touring, impeccable percussion, and 33% more facial hair to The Seedy Seeds. Beards ahoy!

Our Sophomore full-length, "Count the Days" is getting crazy piles of attention and acclaim, and Mike's mom reports that she hasn't taken it out of her car's CD player since she got it. We want to thank everyone who's purchased a copy from our shows, Shake-It Records, and digitally from Amiestreet.com.

Thanks to your voting, digging, blogging, requesting and twittering, TSS have camped out on WOXY's top 20 list for most of the past three months. We've also been on the top 25 downloads on Amiestreet.com nonstop since the release of "Count the Days." Holy Heck!

TSS also received the Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Best Indie Rock Band in Cincinnati!

Congratulations to Nathan Jones, from Marion, Indiana, for he is the winner of our Super-Sweet "Count the Days" Contest! Nathan will receive a treasure chest of Seeds Stuff including an autographed kazoo, T-shirt, and a drawing of The Seedy Seeds riding his favorite animal (in this case a Blackbird!). Also, grande-sized kudos to runner-up Michael Frazier, from Cincinnati, Ohio (he wins stuff too)!

January 16, we'll be shooting a live video at Scribbles Cafe in Kent, Ohio, so come on out and join us! It's a free show, and it starts at 5 P.M. - come out and be immortalized in crystal-clear digital video while we serenade you!

2009 begins the prestigious and aptly-named "The Seedy Seeds Make It Out To Your Neck Of The Woods" Tour! We've spent so many months indoors making "Count the Days" that we plan to spend most of the next year on the road, enjoying the traffic, vistas and tourist traps of These Great United States (and possibly Canada). So check out our show listing early and often, new dates are getting added every day!

HY

In a category pinned against some of Cincinnati's finest (and several of our friends!) we won Best Indie Rock Band Sunday night at the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards. Thank you all very much for your support!

The night was amazing. We performed as well, sharing the stage with Bootsy Collins and Ralph Stanley!!!!! We brought our amazing friends, Archie Byers and Remnant, onstage with us to provide totally sweet backing vocals for our performance of "My Roots Go Down." We also played "Oh, Cincinnati."

Love,
The Seedy Seeds

It's been quite a whirlwind over here at Seedy Central. First and most important, Our Sophomore CD, Count the Days, Is available now! You can purchase it on our site and it will be in your hands faster than you can read a medium-sized Choose Your Own Adventure book!

If you need it right this second, you can always head on over to Shake-It Records and pick one up as well!

CD Release Show

We had a fantastic release show on October 17 at The Southgate House, and we wanted to thank everyone for coming out and supporting us.

The night started out with an unbelievable set from our good friends The Sheds, their first and only show this year. Very big hugs and thanks to The Sheds for coming back for this show. We definitely hope that this means we'll be hearing more from them soon, for real.

Next came some amazingness from Michigan's Lightning Love!. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see their whole set; one of the downfalls of booking shows is that you have a bunch of stuff you have to do that distracts you from watching awesome bands. But they were fantastic and we can't wait to have them back.

Then came a little band you might know of called The Seedy Seeds. I was so excited to play the new songs and hear people's reaction to them. We were fortunate enough to be playing with a live drummer, Brian Penick, which was amazing! It really added dimension and texture to our live sound. We finished off our show with a cover of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," and were joined onstage by the Sheds' Chris Haubner on piano, and our pal Ringo Jones on bass. After our set we turned the party over to DJ Evan Scott.

It was really a magical evening, and we can't thank everyone enough for all the support and feedback. We look forward to being back at the Southgate House during our Artist In Residency shows in December - We'll be playing every Wednesday of the month, which includes Christmas Eve and also New Years Eve! Come on out and join us for a WARM CUP OF HOLIDAY CHEER!

xoxo

Mike
