musings whilie on the east coast....
as i was leaving pdx to board a jet blue redeye, a quick and wet thunderstorm hit portland, just as i was lamenting the fact that i was probably going to have to skip watering the garden (or Gnome Village to those in the know). the water poured down for about 20 minutes while i was packing....perfect. jetted to the airport with Team Marcus, had to have my film hand searched by a gent who pleasantly listed off all the different things he thought terrorists could make expolsives look like...fun. made the plane, sat down only to find a a fuzzy haired artist gent i had made the acquaintance of via mutual pals. we chatted for a bit, he crashed, and i watched a movie i had been wanting to catch - Waitress...which I have to say, was just what i needed.
As I watched the Sun rise, I lost my breath a couple of times, it was so luscious. My mind wandered to all sorts of Xanax induced places, people and things - including the thought that i might just have a little crush on my own career right now...i feel kinda dorky about how passionate i feel about photography. i'm serious.
so, i landed, wound up sharing a car with this fine artist gent back into the city, then wandered around in a very happy (thanks Xanax!) 2 hours of sleep fueled haze. first stop - the photo district, where i personally visited all the stores i mailorder from...ah, yes you see the dork now? Fotocare was my favorite by the way - especially cause they busted ass to send me their remaining stock of UC100 when it went out of production earlier this year. Yay photocare!!
later in the day i met up with my friend Michael, my girlfriend Lauren and his friend James and we drove out to Michael's family pad in Naples Maine....
Maine is amazing in the summer, minus the mosquitos - which had a serious snack of my knees the first night there....but the photos Lauren and I took were so worth it!! Michael had invited me out for two reasons - to hang and to photograph his incredibly charming and delightful pops Fred - who is 81 going going on 22....
I wound up photographing Fred quite a bit, he was a fine sport, but I also did portraits of everyone else in the house, including Michael's lovely lady Kimberlee who was a total natural even though she would NEVER admit it....in fact i took to carrying my light meter everywhere with me, just to see what the light was doing...something i intend to do more often.....it was a lovely weekend, lots of swimming on the lake, massively decadent bbq's, art making, and fine fine conversations with ridiculously stimulating companions....
so, i'm back in the city, catching up with things....about to hop in the shower and run around town a whole bunch...
i've got my first nyc group show on Thursday at this Gallery called Gallery FCB from 6-10 - check it out -
Gallery FCB - Chelsea baby...My shot of Menomena in the bathtub won a Judges Choice award, so I'm here to say hi to the print i sent for framing....
more later...x..x.x
