IR 22 routes to rootz is a vinyl and digital release .A  special limited edition 12 inch vinyl with full colour poster has been created and will be given free to the public  in conjunction with the artists involved in the creative process of the recording.

The images of the vinyl artwork originates in the Solomon Islands in the sOuth pacific which is also home to some of the indigenous artists that apppear on the record. The arwork and design was created in brasil by dubdem and the record itself was pressed at bob marley,s Tuff Gong's recording and pressing plant in Kinston ,Jamaica.

Indigenous Resistance I.R  as an integral part of its work presents vinyl records, cds, books and video free of charge to the public as part of their
FREEDUB series.

This vinyl IR22 will be part of that as in conjuction with some of the artists who participated in the recording there will be a special week of freedub and a global launch for this release.

During a week in september launch parties and dj events will be held simultaneously in bogota , colombia , sao paulo ,brasil ,pittsburgh pennyslvania, tenerife canary islands.

At these events the public will able to receive free copies of the vinyl. Pittsbugh's soma mestizo is organising a special event that will precede the upcoming G 20 protests.

The vinyl features the tracks "routes to rootz" and "indigenous & sacred"
Routes to Rootz is an experimental dissolve all borders dub and electro track where a vast array of musicians, singers, artists from different times and spaces make an appearance. Dub legends Augustus Pablo, Mikey Dread (producer and participant in many landmark recordings by The Clash) peter tosh,s drummer Santa Davis,Chuck D from Public Enemyand producer Freashmint. The trak features  famed british dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah who refused the Order of the British Empire from the Queen because it reminded him of "how my foremothers were raped and my forefathers brutalised."On this track Benjamin does a heartfelt poem against domestic violence.Traditional indigenous singers from Solomon Islands,Sosolakam and Turtle Island (the indigenous name for north america)

The mix presented on this vinyl was done live in the high altitude of Bogota, Colombia by colombian Dj Rodrigo using a variety of Indigenous Resistance tracks.
A full length release "IR18 THE DJ RODRIGO BOGOTA MIXTAPE' that has other dj rodrigo mixes of IR traks was releases earlier this year .

The track "Indigenous and Sacred" is a special extended mix of the track "tatto" that was released on the cd IR 10 Indigenous Dublands. On this mix which was specially mastered at Tuff Gong in jamaica by gary sutherland (mixing engineer on the classic Alpha Blondy cds) you can hear the full extent of the colloboration.

Never before recorded traditional  instruments from the Solomon Islands & Sosolakam are brillantly fused with electronic sounds and dub influenced textures by Soma Mestizo ,3 Generations Walking producer SOY sos .In this track tradtional indigenous singing  by tuhununo an saevo from the solomon islands  blend with christiane D dub spiritual vocals. This is a track that created on different sides of the globe with the internet being one of the conduits to allow this musical collaboration to happen.

This colloboration was one of the most special that IR  has ever been involved with and this twelve inch  vinyl with special artwork is a celebration of this.

For those without turntables the tracks are available as digital downloads from itunes and other digital download sites.

ring of fire
SOMA MESTIZO
 UPCOMING SHOWS
6/12/09, Your Inner Vagabond, YIV
6/13/09, East End Food Co-op, Co-op

"it's been a long time, i shouldn't have left you, without a cool beat to step to"

As some may know and a few may have guessed, I, the expresser of all things Soma Mestizo-ish, have been on what one could say a sabbatical from all arts production type of thangs. Hence, unfortunately, a website, very much in need of updating. But I think this lovely E-blast shall suffice.

Now, my lovely co-horts have been up to all kinds of artish mischief:
Richard "Skilah" Gartner has apparently, at least what I've overheard in cafes and bars, become some sort of Yoga God.
DJ Soy Sos, besides rocking the hottest parties, like the "Dirty Ball", had the great pleasure to work on the documentary, "New Muslim Cool". It should air sometime on PBS.
And last but not least, Ketan Bakrania, like, is he in another band, like how many bands does that make it now...forgive me if I'm incorrect, but I think his new musical project is called the "German Shephards". I don't know, ask him when you see him...

Anywhoooo.........................................I digress

Hear yea, come hither...lend me your ear
for a musical whisper...

This Friday, (last minutedness, also part of the sabbatical) June 12th at Your Inner Vagabond, Soma Mestizo and Machete will be dancing and howling through the "burning rings of fire".

Machete' is smoking hot, not to mention,  really great Puerto Rican music, fearturing Ms. Lady Diva-Genja on the vocals. I love to see her sing and enjoy the rare moments when we sing together (if anyone had a chance to see the Machete' Soma combo at one of our Incubator gigs last year, you will know what I mean.) The instrumentation, is none other than members of another group we love, Chai Ba Ba. (Hey, remember the rocking funking parties in Ketan's basement!)

Now, due to Genja's employment, (if the Pens go to game 7, Machete will close the show out, but if not (GO Pens) Machete will open). Either way, I figure if you are on this list, you are a rather cool and flexible person.

Here's the Info:

I.R. is a new music label launched in 2003 by TFTT that explores the twin themes of Indigenous Resistance/Indigenous Reality. Issues and examples of indigenous resistance and Indigenous reality that normally dont receive attention will be highlighted through our releases. I.R also refers to homegrown insurrection and the fight against injustice everywhere.

I.R is intimately connected to the TFTT freedub project. Hence there will be opportunities to recive vinyl, books, posters free of charge.

An autonomous venture, I.R releases comes together with a minimum of resources but with a maximum of cooperation and care from those involved in the project; a family of loosely affilated folks who believe in the spirit and deed of resistance. We all have the capacity to fight the beast. We all have a part we can play.

RESIST INJUSTICE!
FUCK BABYLON!
So, you gonna spend a Friday evening with us?
I would start early-do the whole Lawrenceville thang, check out some Galleries, like Zombo and FE, head over to New Amsterdam for Happy Hour, have a meal at YIV and other locales
Make a eve of it, hang wit us, then come chill wit us-I don't know about the others, but I'll be headed to the Thunderbird, to hear another Ms. Lady (very pregnant) Diva-Omega Love will be there around 11 pm around when our show will be done. So, make a night of it. If  I can crawl out of my cocoon to sing and dance through rings of fire, surely you can crawl out and meet us half way for whatever kind of time it shall be...it could be fun, it could be odd, it could be bizarre-whatever it is, it is never dull.

While in Bogota ,Colombia ; IR was fortunate to hear a Colombian dj rodrigo who at that moment was spinning under one of his other personnas: dj hush. Impressed by his personal demeanor and his mixing ability IR handed over to him European and Jamaican IR vinyl mixes as well as accappela vocals & studio out takes and asked him to record a live session of him mixing these traks. The result is IR18 The Dj Rodrigo Bogota Mixtape. A musical journey through various musical styles and with the participation of indigenous performers from various parts of the world. You will hear people like Assatta Shakur,Micheal Franti, Augustus Pablo, Mikey Dread, Mad Mike, Underground Resistance ,Soy Sos, Christiane D,Tohununo, Saevo, Dr Das, Ramjac, Tapedave,Jimmy Dick,The Ghost,Freshmint and Benjamin Zephaniah among many others.

This release was originally created to be released as one long continuous mix. However we received many requests for individual tracks contained in the mix. Therefore we have engineered the release so that you are able to purchase individual tracks or you can purchase the ENTIRE 48 minute non stop mixtape for the price of ONE track.IR18 The Dj Rodrigo Bogota Mixtape is available from www.believedigital.com in France. Search for the artist :Indigenous Resistance. It will also be available through digital download sites like itunes, amazon, emusic, rhaposody.
