hi there,
well, we've had a blast these past few months.....played an arena tour with US band matchbox 20, went back in the studio to re-record 'homesick' with producer scott horscroft (silverchair, the presets), and have been honoured by two APRA Award nominations. right now we're on a bit of a break......we needed to sharpen the saw so as not to spontaneously self combust.
in july and august we are doing our last tour for 2008, and it could be our last tour for a while actually as we embark on an exciting new chapter that we'll share with you as it unfolds.
we're playing the best we've ever played, and after re-charging our personal batteries, we'll be bursting at the seams to give you a rockin' last show in july-aug 2008. we've tricked up new versions of songs, have adjusted our set-list to include songs that you've been asking for, and are keen to connect with you fully before we disappear off the scene for a while.
see you soon. in the meantime, live your dreams.

hi street team, fans, merc supporters local and beyond! how are you all travelin? we've been traveling, in a tarago van mainly, playing 38 shows in 7 weeks on our tour. thank you (we can't thank you enough) to all for coming down for the hang, and an even bigger thanks to all who rocked the night away with us! very satisfied but enjoying a tiny rest - no rest for the wicked though - as i'm writing to inform you all of the release of our new single called THE HARD WAY. Well, this single is out very soon and that means it's gonna be available in stores and also digitally, itunes etc. so please go and grab a copy. to tell you a little bit about the song: well, it's basically a soul infused rock track which lyrically pays a bit of homage to my dad's advice for getting through hard times when you're growing up. i guess life is always a learning curve for me and his advice has been very balanced and straight to the point. he said at times when i'd made a mistake that this is the only way to really learn for yourself - to get out there and take a bite, and chew, even if you end up chewin the dirt. anyhow, the guys play their asses off on this song and it's got a cool guitar riff which almost sounds a little southern soul in nature. Hope you dig it. All the best...and keep an eye out for shows and releases in the future...til then -- onwards and ono sideboards! rai and thirsty merc The Hardway will contain the following B-side Tracks: The Hard Way (Radio Edit) 3:57 The Vision (Live) 6:34 20 Good Reasons (Acoustic) 3:35 www.thirstymerc.com www.myspace.com/thirstymerc

Hi there
Rai here
Updatin and ice skatin (figuratively) in cold but most gorgeous new zealand. The trees are green, grass is green, uniform trees and hedgework like you've never seen it!
It's so lovely here but bummer was - I got laryngitis after singin on a cold. Sydney and melb have been so cold I just couldn't avoid contracting the common cold, which strangely and pathetically enough, affects singing more than many other more full on ailments!
But, grabbed some antibiotics and aspirins etc and was back on track faster than you could say 'pricecheck on prunejuice, bob, price check on prunejuice..' And we were off n running again.
So, much apologies to the audiences who had to miss on merc at the two cancelled shows. My voice is pretty resilient - doesn't cack out much, but if one thing's gonna do it it's a common cold. Aaaargh!
Since the minor mishap - we jumped back into things. We are finding the audiences and people here very polite and very warm hearted, and getting into the music a lot which is such a great thing for us. We will definitely be coming back for more touring in this gorgeous country in upcoming months.
Evermore have been playing great shows and have a choir even on stage! It sounds awesome. Thanks to the boys for having us!
In other news, we did a new vid to the song 'the hard way' which is to be our next single. Will be checkin out an edit very soon.
The merc crew is all in good spirits, rugged up and enjoying the terrain - which is nothing short of breathtaking. And stupid me, I forgot my camera. Total idiot. Make sure you get a camera if you're coming over here - there are mountain ranges, wavey seas, lines of trees, countryside to blow your mind, quaint houses, gorgeous inlet towns and wellington, wow! So many great hangs...it's been hard to focus on a book or psp.
See you round
Rai and the boys.

Hello there
Well, websites are awesome but they don't make up for the old 'real gig' which we are doing, the slideshows album launch. This gig is actually a few gigs, shows in venues all around the country in capital letters, and capital cities, and you are invited, if you buy a ticket of course you obtain free entry to the gig. Then of course you will be treated to songs played by the band thirsty merc, some of which you may know, most of which the band knows. Some we may not know, but we would love to listen also with you as we play these songs, whatever they are. And they are sure to be fantastic, without talking things up too much.
So, please come to the gig, if you so wish. My father will be driving there to one of them, most probably in his monaro, which is the colour of burnt metallic pumpkin soup, and it's a clear indication that he went through something of a mid life crisis, but only 20 years too late (he looks good for his age)
Some other news, without being coy, or arrogant, or anything else, but possibly a little bit droll and deserving of a punch in the eye is the following:
Our album entitled 'slideshows' went gold, which is a terrific achievement, not only apparently but possibly even actually. Thank you to all the people who picked up a copy - or a coffee. if we have a tea party for extended seafood and family we will be sure to order squid on your account and then fight over the bill until a truce is made, leaving you unsavoury but sanguine in the most stalwart of circumstances. The album went gold.
Also, numerically, we came in fourth on the aria chart for our debut. Please, management, there is no way for this to come across NOT big noting ourselves. We are proud, but equally humbled, as this also reflects many things. One of them being that the capital of egypt is cairo, and because of that, we have decided to book a tour in honour of this remarkable feat, which was already booked, but obviously now, cemented.
To turn you off fully, we also write to inform you that we spent a fortnight in the top 10 on itunes. I also met Ray Manzarek from The Doors a few weeks ago and he informed us that the left hand keyboard bass line (played on a piano-bass fender rhodes) was somewhat inspired by a fats domino groove....fancy that. But hypnotic, undoubtedly.
So, as you can see, it's been a great moth for thirsty merc. It's been almost a behemoth, and even a tiny bit of a behemonth. You saw that one coming, from a mile away, and decided to send it back via UPS, and it arrived next tuesday. Farrago Lives, Kids.
Watch us on ROVE on the 20th of May.
Lots of love, the day after mother's day...
Rai
P.S. Get well soon danni. We hope you're doin ok. x
