Question:

Hi JB
I know this is a little off the wall and we also know you are a very busy guy so if you do not have time to reply that is fine.
We are planning a trip to the CMA music fest in June and wondered if you have any valuable info that we could use.  I know you have a different way of seeing it than us normal people would have but we thought you may be able to answer some questions.
We are really wondering if we would spend the extra money to stay in a motel downtown, would we be able to walk to most of the activities.

We have friends who live in Franklin and we could stay with them but we are thinking travel wise would it be better to stay downtown?  Where are all the extra activities like your celebrity bull riding and different concerts going on?  We do know the main one for concerts is LP field.
We have always wanted to go and just decided to start planning now for the trip.  We would like to go to the Celebrity of Hope Softball game but do not know where that is located either.  I know our friends could help us some also but when they are use to all the hype they take it for granted and don't realize we may need some special info.

Anyway I will stop here and if you can offer any information about where the best place to stay downtown or on the outside of town we appreciate it.
Have a good rest of the summer!  Thanks for putting up with people like me!
Colleen.

Jason's Reply:

Well...let's see. Staying Downtown would be a good place. Everything except for the LP Field Concerts happens downtown on Broadway. And the LP Concerts are just a walk,a good walk over a long bridge, over the river and around the corner and then the walk to the seats. CMA Fest starts at the Convention Center/ Exhibit Hall (Where fans go to see their favorite artists to get autographs) and stretches down to the river...Riverfront Conerts are there. The celebrity bull riding has been just off Broadway. So basically everything happens down there. The Softball game, not sure where that is held. I can always call Chris (Young), sorry I name dropped there, and find out where it was this past year.
Where to stay? It is going to be expensive as crap. EXAMPLE: The Comfort Inn where I usually stay, across the street from Tin Roof, Raises their regular $70 a night fee to $195 a night during big events. Its a little ways from Broadway and downtown, but I usually end up at Tin Roof or Losers at some point of the night so I stay there on small visits. Marriott is the PERFECT place to stay anytime, but awesome location and everything for CMA fest or just chilling. Renaissance motel is another great choice. The Fan Fest signing is just off of it. You can actually walk from inside the motel all the way down to the Exhibit Hall. The Double Tree, Never stayed at the one in Nashville, but heard its nice...they usually are. There is a Holiday Inn Express that I have stayed at a bunch of times and its about 1/2 mile from everything. It's still on Broadway just up the hill from the Convention Center and all. Its clean and affordable. With any of these Downtown stays be ready to pay...get this...anywhere from $15-$20 Parking fee a day to park in their parking lot that YOU just paid a room for. They have explained it a million times to me and I have tried to fight it a million times...I have yet to win THAT argument.
For CMA I have been staying out of the downtown area. Brentwood is ALWAYS a nice place to stay. About a 20 min drive. But you can find really nice rooms for less money. Cab ride is about $20-$30 each way. But no parking fee for downtown and you can party and not have to risk hurting yourself and/or others, losing your license, paying a high fine, losing your job because you can't make it to work cause your cousin that was suppose to pick you up forgot...you get the point. If you have some friends with you get a van and split the cost.
A great way to get the MOST out of these kinds of trips and have everything taken care of for you is to call hotels or a travel agent and get a package deal. They come with hotels, tickets and passes to EVERYTHING and you can save some money. The con to this is: riding a bus back to the hotel at the end of the day with 30-40 smelly people that are tired, hungry, and cranky. Or you can opt for the taxi thing again.
I hope this helped and I really recommend going to these if you are a country music fan. The best shows in my opinion are the numerous free shows that are going on ALL day on various stages. Jason Michael Carroll, Chuck Wicks, Luke Bryant, Jamey Johnson, Jerrod Neiman, I, and more, all did free shows and appearances the whole time down there. You just have to search em’ out. Fan Club Memberships are a HUGE way to know these little things. That's something we are starting to work on again for our fans to.
Here is a link that will give you more info on the 2010 CMA Fan Fair.

Hope this helped and was useful. JB

Hey everyone. I never really personally endorse much on this page. But I have to let ya all know something. Have you ever went into a place to have your vehicle worked on, and they end up saying you need a butt load more work done. You go in for an oil change and they come out sayin, " Our mechanic noticed that your "left differential modulating bird damn" is leaking." MY WHAT??? They replaced it for ya and forgot to call, now your bill has an extra $1000 added to it. When all ya wanted was an oil change.
I 100% back the quality of work these guys do. They have been a BLESSING when it come to keeping me and the guys on the road. I work on my bus with them out there all the time, and they have taught me so much and helped me a lot. Who knows, ya may catch me out there when ya come out to have em work on your vehicle.
I have had a few friends bring thier personal vehicle in for work and have heard nothing but great things. They work on ANYTHING!!
From engine work, elecrtical, suspension, inside and out.
Classic Cars
Motorhomes of all types. Big and small, Old and New
Prevost tour busses (Bill is a certified Prevost Mechanic)
From LP tanks, Battery charging systems, to A/C and Heating systems. Everything!!!
Dump Trucks. All Makes and Models
Over the Road Trucks, Tractor Trailers. All makes and Models
You name it, they are amazing. And if they can't work on it, Bill will refer you to someone that can.
It's been a bit slow for them, with the way times are right now, and I just would like to let everyone know about  them. Call them for your next oil change, service, anything you are needing done. Let em know you seen this on my myspace page and get it done even cheaper. Give these guys a shot. They aren't a hurry the hell up, hope it works kind of shop. These guys make sure it's done right and your happy. Here is the information for Westside Mechanics:

Westside Mechanics
3835 109th Street
Urbandale, IA 50323
515-278-5998
Tell em' you saw this on Jason's Myspace. Give them at least a try.
you know I wouldn't be endorsing them unless I was happy with them...and it's not easy to make me happy when it comes to mechanics. Thanks y'all.

Jason Brown Defends Celebrity Bull Riding Title

DES MOINES, Iowa – May 27th, 2009, Jason Brown, National Recording Country Artist and reigning Celebrity Bull Riding Champion will defend his title at 2009 CMA Music Festival in Nashville on Friday, June 12th, 2009.

Brown say, “I’ve been around livestock all my life, and done some bronc and bull riding for fun, but never on a competitive level. Although, we are riding a mechanical bull, I would rather ride a real one. You can sometimes actually feel the shift of the bull and get a clue on what he may do next. On the mechanical you are just thrown one way then another. It's basically hold on like hell and try to look like ya’ know what you’re doing”.

This is Brown’s fourth visit to CMA Music Festival.

Brown’s appearance to CMA Music Fest is in the middle of his music tour including concerts throughout Iowa, California, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, and Nashville.

Stacy Harris – Nashville’s Top Music Critic with Picks & Pans, calls Brown, “…one of country music's most promising up-and-comers”.

Currently, Jason is promoting his single, Two Places at Once. This is the second single off the full album, Livin Off the Land, Jason Brown’s sophomore album with the label. Additionally, he is spending time between Nashville and Des Moines writing and preparing for his third album to be released in 2010.

Brown, has shared the stage alongside country’s leading artists including, Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town, Blake Shelton, Sugarland and Emerson Drive.

Dream It Records represents Jason Brown.  Dream It Records formed in February 2008, with Brown as the first artist.  For more information, please visit www.JasonBrowncountry.com.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The one thing you'll notice first about Jason Brown is that he is a nice guy. When you meet him you feel like you've known him all your life. When he talks to you, you believe he feels like he's known you all your life, too. In Iowa his concerts are an event, with devout fans banding together and reveling joyously in the music of their hometown hero. With his popularity growing, Jason is branching out to Nashville and beyond, while still remaining true to himself and his humble roots.
"My name is Jason Brown, I was born and raised on a farm, six miles out of Pella, Iowa. I never went into town much unless it was for school or church or to get groceries. I grew up across the street from my grandma and grandpa's farm.
When I was four years old my grandma and I went to church every Sunday. Missing one day of church was like missing a week of school. You know the preacher would call, 'Where you at? Who died? Did the house catch on fire?'
I remember singing the hymnal, not like today where you follow this little bouncing ball and you've got a whole rock band. When I went to church it was just the old 80 something year old lady playing on the piano and the whole congregation singing hymn number 84. Grandma musta heard something in me. The next thing I know she started bribing me, she would buy me a new cowboy shirt when I sang. It got to the point where I wanted a new shirt, so I would purposely learn a new song. When I wore the shirts she bought to church, that was all right, but when I wore the shirts to school, they weren't all that cool. They had the big flower, the big rose that came up, the gaudy stuff but that's actually why I started learning to sing was to stay outta trouble and get shirts.
My grandma had nine fingers. She worked at a window company and she lost her ring finger. She'd sit there and play with all nine fingers and teach me the scales and theory of music, somewhat. Not like college theory, but showing me how to hold my notes and sing from my diaphragm. The first song I learned was Mansion On the Hilltop. I remember singing that song for the first time in front of the congregation at church and everybody clapped. Well, when I was younger I wasn't used to people clapping for me, it was usually, 'Damn it!' or me being in trouble, I was a little hellion. So this was something for me to make up for all the bad times.
I was always connected to the church musically even when I lived in Texas. Pella, Iowa, was a little Dutch town. We moved to Corpus Christi when I was 14. I spent my 14th birthday waking up in a whole new environment. It was a total culture shock. I sang with a church down there. I was involved in the youth ministry and did summer tours and stuff, during the Spring break we'd go someplace.
Later, I moved back to Pleasantville, Iowa and they had a talent contest. The only song I knew was Every Rose Has It's Thorns. I had broke up with some chick and wanted to get back with her and she didn't want to, so that song was like, ya know, the chicks dug it, so I learned it. I used to sing during parties and stuff; I'd get out my guitar and just start making up words to songs. There was this one girl named Candy that I went to school with, I even wrote a song about her butt. She had one of the nicest butts in Pleasantville so everyone loved the song. That's gonna be on my next album (laughing.) My friends were like, 'Yeah, enter this talent contest,' so I did.
A good friend of mine, Frank Hunter's, mom Beth, was a singer. She was well known throughout Iowa, she did a lot of county fairs, she was like, 'Hey, why don't you come up and sing with us? You like country music?' I was like, 'Yeah I love country music.' I'm the only dork here wearing wranglers and a cowboy hat and a belt buckle in this town. That's when the transition came, Christian music singing, to singing country music. I'd always been a country fan, but I'd just never had an avenue to do it. That's when I was 16 and I've been doing it ever since. Except for two years I moved to St. Louis. Those weren't the worst years of my life but I always felt like something was missing.
I love meeting people. I like watching people come into a venue and I usually try to find the people that look like they don't want to be there. You got your ones that won a free ticket off the radio and they didn't really want to go and they're like man you dragged me into this thing. I look for those people and when I play. I purposely try to pinpoint them and if by the third song there's not a smile on their face then, by golly, I'm doing something wrong.
A lot of people now are open minded though, as long as it's a good song they don't care if its rap or hip hop or pop or country. As long as you got a good beat you can sing a song about an egg roll. You can bring a whole bunch of people from different cultures and different backgrounds and if you share that same music, that same interest, you're in the same boat, you have something in common. What I found when I realized that concept of song writing; it's not that hard. It doesn't need to be that hard, just say what it is and let the listeners draw their own picture.
A quote I read one time stuck with me, 'Try not to be a man of success, rather be a man of value.' Maybe it comes from living in the Midwest, that's my wall being in country music and being in Nashville. Being from the Midwest sometimes people read me wrong because when you do business you do business. Either you work your butt off for something, or you don't. Where I come from growing up on the farm, if you wanted to be eating that cow come next September, you better be getting up at 4:00 in the morning and feeding it for over a year. It takes 10 minutes to eat what you fed but it took a year to get it there and that's the thing. That's the way I look at music and that's the way I look at life. If you really want something real hard and bad enough no matter where you are in your life you need to make a change.
In the years ahead, I just hope I'm still doing this. I hope I am still who I am today."
Here is an interview I had with a great gentleman by the name of Christian Lamitschka.
Just follow this link and laugh at how stupid my answers are...Its something I think I may have gotten better at but only time will tell. This was done at the 2008 CMA Festival (Fan Fair)
