Duq is going to be showing at the American Royal in Kansas City this weekend. Last Show he went Top Five twice. He has been in training since with Kevin Jochens and he will be showing him there.
There is a youth that will be showing him in Showmanship also at the show.
Sandy and I will be going over Sat. morning. Can't wait to see him.
Then we are planning our last Horsin' Around Day Camp for the season to be followed with a Bonfire. We are planning to spice up this Camp with the theme of the Wild West complete with Cowboys and Indians. It should be a hoopin' good time.
Ashley is going to be in town and so is Lisa. Olivia has been coming all week to help out. Getting things ready on the home front. Then Ashley is planning on taking Duq back with her up to Chicago for the winter.
Shaka has been doing well, and we are planning on riding her this next week. Should be interesting.
Well, I hope everyone will have a great Weekend.

Where to begin? We had such a lovely day for having an outside event. the staff arrived early and helped get the horses all ready. Alysia brought one of her horses, Wrangler, for the day for the campers to ride too. Olivia and Bill helped my husband and I set up. Lisa arrived just in time to help get Xennon, Chessie, & Wrangler ready for the campers. Bill got a quick lesson riding Wrangler from Alysia. We had just enough time to grab a bite to eat before the campers started arriving. The campers trickled in with open minds and at first they were a little quite. As the day progressed Lidia, Anna, Richard, Kerry, Kristen, & Keri started participating in a game of earning horse cash for prizes. They received horse cash for arriving on time, and then continued with every proper item they they brought along. Then for every question answered and every question asked about the subject we were teaching they received horse cash. The treasure hunt was exciting, taking the campers around the farm collecting items that pertained to the subjects studied, Horse shoes, Halters, lead ropes and bits. Each item found earned them $100.00 in Horse cash. Then after that item was returned the campers rolled the dice and if they rolled doubles they earned a second $100.00. All the horse cash accumulated was calculated and written in their workbook. Only one camper was able to purchase a prize. All three other campers will start out their second camp with horse cash earned from this past camp. The campers were having such a great ride on the horses, that each group was able to play Simon Says for a short period at the end of there session. The horses even seemed to enjoy it. All the campers purchased a Horsin' Around Day Camp T-Shirt. They all looked pretty spiffy in their new duds. We took pictures of each of them riding and made them into the front cover of their workbooks. Then they helped brush Zorro's long mane and tail. Took a seat in the shade and I brought out Echshahlon to perform his rearing on command and following me around the arena, then brought him up to meet the group up close and personal. One of the campers was very unhappy that the day was over, tears came down her little cheeks, thinking of the fact that she had to leave. But her mother came to the rescure and signed both herself and her daughter up for mother daughter lessons. With this knowledge she was looking forward to visiting us again shortly. Pretty much fun was had by all, the campers, the staff, and Jim and I were so pleased that the day went off without a hitch. We are looking forward to the Two Day Camps coming up later on this summer. Donna www.arabianwoods.com

First of all it has been a really long winter.
Now, just this weekend Jim found a couple pounds of mushrooms. He is in making them up with eggs and cracker crumbs as I am writing this. lol
We took DUQ and Chessie to a show Sat. goodness I just hate getting up early to go to those things. But if you don't get up early you don't get to go.
Duqie won two first places and a third in Halter. Then Chessie won a fifth and a second. Olivia and I showed the boys at the Heartland Saddle Club Show in Virginia, IL. It started out looking like we might be rained out, but as the day went on it was cold and windy, but the rain left and the sun came out. It was a great show. In some classes we had up to 16 showing.
Sunday we went on a trail ride with a friend of mine. She took us to Ray Ranch near Rushville, IL. And let me say what a game group they had there. They hold cow sorting at there ranch other weekends. But this weekend it was a trail ride ending with a feed of ham and beans. The riding was rough, slidin' down hills and even a treck thru a raveen on a creek bed. I especially enjoyed the path that led straight into the creek jumping in at the end. Some of the riders even stopped and found about a pound of mushrooms along the trail. Xennon and Aysa did a wonderful joy. And Olivia is quite a little rider. Stickin' to her saddle when it got a little rough. Xennon was awesome, I couldn't believe how well he did for me, splashing thru the creek and slogging thru the mud up and down and in and out of the creek bed, what a trooper.
Here at home we gave Aysa and Xennon a bath. They appreciated it after such a sloppy ride in the mud, and tall grass. The food was good and they were talking about having a fish fry next time, can't wait, well the trail ride should be pretty fun again too.
We finished up the mowing inbetween all the fun too. Goodness it must be spring. I need to get some rest, oh well I will rest next winter.lol
Til next time,
God Bless, I hope all your rides are as much fun and you meet many new friends along the way.

Camps are made up of one or two day sessions for up to 6 campers age ranging from 8-15. Other Individual Sessions are available upon request see below.
Campers begin the day with learning the importance of safety around the horses. We will help them with making their very own unique workbook complete with their own picture on a horse as the cover.
The students will be divided into two groups of 3.
Each group will participate with the safe grooming techniques of a horse, and enjoy being educated in saddling and riding the horses.
Meanwhile the other group will be amused with exciting activities such as a Treasure Hunt and or Tales for Trails Nature Hike.
Each will have the opportunity to ride our horses in the safety of the arena for up to 2 -3 hours /depending on whether it is a one Day or Two Day Camp/ only 3 riders up at one time. This will provide enough individual attention per camper for safe and fun riding.
We will present the Campers at the end of the Day with a special Diploma of Participation.
For the Two Day Camp the last hour of the second day will be a fun show competition performed by the students. Ribbons awarded.

Current mood: fabulous

Today 25 Riders from the Heartland Saddle Club joined in the first Trail Ride of the Season. What a nice 8 mile ride it was. The Horses did very well, Xennon was fabulous. It was his First Real trail ride of his career. We left the house in a hurry with not quite complete directions to the park. Hoping that We would make it in time to warm the horses up.
Well we were late, but as luck would have it We happened to run into another rider that new the way at the gas station. So we followed her in just the last bit of the trip there.
Didn't have but a few minutes to get the horses ready and hop on and join the rest of the group. The horses were a little fresh but there wasn't too much wind and the sun had come out to warm us up. You could tell The horses enjoyed the outing too.
Nothin' better than a Great Trail Ride to kick off the Horse Season..

What a blast. We showed we partied, and enjoyed all the festivities of the Futurity. Couldn't have planned it out any better.
The horses did good for us and learned so much. Met up with some old friends and made some new ones.
My birthday party was great. Carol even bought me a present and gave me some flowers. Many of the group showed up to celebrate with me and enjoyed the cake and punch. Fun was had by all.
Carol bought Echshahlon's breeding and is looking forward to enjoying the whole experience of the breeding process.
Thank you for all the Birthday wishes and great friendship!!!

We took Zorro and Amir to the Vet Sat. the 12th and Now They are Geldings.
But the good news is We started working with Amir and have already saddled him.
And soon Zorro will be able to hang out in the pasture instead of being locked up so much.
What a difficult decision that was...
