God Gave Him       pastorob

*download the mp3 here: God Gave Him

God gave Him who had no sin to be sin for us

So that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

God gave Him who had no sin to be sin for us

So that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

And that's the full Gospel. The Good News of Jesus Christ

That sets the captive free.

The full Gospel, deliverance through Jesus Christ,

His Holy Spirit in me sets me free.

I'm
free… to rise up like an eagle and fly

I am free. I'm free.

I've died in Christ and now I'm free from condemnation.

   I'll rise above temptation,

Sing of my salvation, "I am free!"

God gave Him who had no sin to be sin for us

So that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:16-21  So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.
God made him who had no sin to be sin  for us,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Dear Joe,

I am so glad to hear that you got to Manila okay and that everything went relatively smoothly
when leaving Moscow.

Since you left a suitcase here does that mean you are coming back in March?

It certainly was a blessing to have you here
and you are welcome to come back any time.

I'm enjoying my time in South Africa in the sunshine.
I'll write more later when I get back.

In the Lamb,

Mary

Hey Mary: (mom and dad also)

Well, that (the fact that I left a suitcase in Moscow) does NOT mean that
I am definitely coming back in march.Still Maybe!

The suitcase now belongs to Masha and the clothes that
I left with her will be distributed to an orphanage she
knows as well as possible other places.

I am having an awesome time here. I have not yet begun
to get into all of the assignments yet.

Just had my first class (syllabi day) yesterday morning.
So, I am looking forward to the first day of "instruction" this morning.

Yesterday it was impressed upon my heart that I
should take up learning a language.

One of my main difficulties in considering ministering
in a foreign country was/is the fear that I do not speak the language.

God provided a solution.

I will study Tagalog (the national language
of the Philippines) while I am here.

Yes, the classes at this seminary are held in English,
but there are so many times when people speak Tagalog,
and many kind people to assist me.

The benefits are that
1) the alphabet is even smaller than the English alphabet
2) spelling and reading will be relatively easy
(everything is written as it sounds, one sound per letter)
and 3) many words are borrowed from other languages
(I have had 3 years of learning basic Spanish vocabulary).

The hope is that I will be able to communicate well
in Tagalog in a few months,
and that will build my confidence and courage in case
I am called to learn Chinese, German, Russian or another language.

I have much happiness and joy at this time.

Please pray that God will give me the diligence
and planning to fulfill the good desires of my heart.

I also want to learn to play the guitar better. The piano is not portable enough.

I know that these things will take time and will not all be easy,
but I am in a very supportive environment and a good stage for learning.
Just need to be diligent and focus on first priorities first.

Joseph

Cathy
and I drove to Auburn to look it all over. We listened to Sunday's Message twice. Early in the service, I shared this song:

Then, right before I preached, Diana Knapp, one of the the members at Bell Road sang 'On My Knees'.  Interestingly, Diana was a childhood friend of fbcgalt's Christene Santillan.

Remember that our son, Joe, was supposed to fly from Moscow to the Philippines on Qatar Airlines on the 11th? Well, we received this news from him yesterday:

Hey Folks,

Life is getting even more exciting. I went to the Moscow airport to fly out this morning, but I will not be flying out today.

Hopefully they will have a seat for me on the 13th and it will only be US $25 fee.

Meanwhile, I am able to take a tour and help out at the International Mission Board office here and register my VISA.

Just emailing you because I want you to know where I am, and we have an understanding that no news is good news and that I contact you if there is a significant change.

THINGS ARE STILL GREAT!

Later,

Joseph

Today,
Joe sent this interaction with his contact in the Philippines:

Dr. Dan:

I should be arriving at Ninoy Aquino at 10:45 PM Saturday January 13. The flight number is QR (Qatar Airways)  0644   .

See you there.

Jerry hasn't written yet. His calls haven't been able to get through to us because of the mountainous area we've been roaming through. He apparently auditioned for Eowyn yesterday. This morning, Rodney and Gayle Edwards (www.servicetoservants.com) are picking him up to take them to their church in Murfreesboro and then will take him to the airport to come home.

My friend from YouTube, Daniel Teale, has decided he needs to stay in Australia for at least another semester. I've already written him that we will stay closely connected anyway.

Us? Well, all of our meetings with various age and affinity groups have gone well. I am currently pondering the Word--looking for direction about one sermon I'll preach before a vote is taken...

90% or more will mean an invitation to move to Auburn, California to start a radio ministry as an outreach, shepherd a diverse congregation, and grow with my family through the next chapter of our lives.

89% or below will most likely mean we're heading for Liberia (after a first-time cruise of the Hawaiian Islands).

Lord Willing, Jerry will board an airplane for Nashville this morning. He auditions with Eowyn tomorrow.

My second son, Jerry, 19, might be traveling to Nashville to audition for an artist named Eowyn. Jerry has been working long hours at Save-Mart so I've been corresponding with Jeremy Holderfield (from the management company who has signed Eowyn) on his behalf.

Like going through shoeboxes of old photographs, I've been trying to come up with mp3s, drums photos, and video clips of Jerry in performance.

Jeremy Holderfield also happens to be the guitarist for Seventh Day Slumber (a band that Jerry heard play at Tsunami a couple years ago). Here is what he wrote to me:

Rob,

I can't tell you that if Jerrry comes to Nashville, he'll make
the band. The selection process will be based on talent, attitude, and
spiritual walk. A lot of people have some of those qualities, not
everyone has them all. If Jerry wants to play music and minister for a
living, he's gonna have to step out on faith.

6 years ago I had to make that decision.

Now I'm married to the woman of my dreams, I've played all over the world, led  over 30,000 people to Jesus at our
concerts, and things are great.

I trusted the Lord.

BUT, I knew God was calling me here.

That is something Jerry and only Jerry can know.
I certainly don't want Jerry here if he just wants to be in a band.
But If God has called him to be here, then he will know.

If God is in fact calling him to be here, no price is too big.

Just pray about it.

Here's some of what I have sent to Jeremy. Jerry has always been helpful in recording songs for me. He plays drums for these three videos:

Greg Brayton's studio on Friday, August 25, 2006:

Remember, Joe wrote this one from Philippians 4:4, 8.

Whatever is True or Noble, Whatever is Right or Pure,
If anything is Excellent or Admirable,
Lovely or Worthy of Praise, Think on These Things.
                                          Think on These Things.

And Rejoice in the Lord always,
I will say it again,
Rejoice in the Lord always.

Yeah, I know...this kinda sounds like a Beatles song.
As a child I began to study the writings of John Lennon. Since my Dad ran a jukebox route,
I heard most of his songs when they first arrived on the streams o
f American pop culture.

The primal voice crying out in my generation tried to point us to Love and Peace.
Both attributes sought by the dreamer point this listener to Jesus.

Love, Love, Love.

There's nothing we can do to earn salvation,
Nothing we can give to pay the price,
No one else to call, we're just gonna call upon the Name of Jesus.

There's nothing we can do that can't be done,
There's nothing really new under the sun,
Surpassing Understanding, Give the Prince of Peace a Chance to free us,
(All we are saying is . . .)

Everyone needs God, We all need H
is Love,
All we need is God's Love, Unconditional Love.

Love, Love, Love . . .

For God so loved the world He gave His Son,
There's nothing we can add to what's been done,
Nowhere Man can go to find the Way, the Truth, the Life
but Jesus  (Nowhere Man, please listen . . .)

Everyone needs God, We all need His Love,
All we need is God's Love,
Unconditional Love,
Unconditional Love,
                     Love is all we need.

Copyright issues aside, I hope you'll enjoy the ideas contained in these verses (and between the lines).

Chase Bank is now using Lennon's melody to promote use of their credit cards. I actually have the very card pictured: Southwest Airlines. I guess that we all have Michael Jackson to thank for that ever-expanding distribution of "All We Need is Love"and "Revolution".

Jebby emailed me two songs at the front end of this trip. In fact, I was driving across Nevada when I asked him to send me something with which to mess around. Greg added some bass and more guitars. Cathy, Greg and I added some background vocals (and of course, Jerry did the drums). I'll have to get permission from Jebby in order to keep these songs online.

Love waited here    when I thought no one would know me
Heaven was here   when I was homeless and lonely
So many things must come undone,
Have mercy on a rebellious son

I was holding back (holding back) but I was missing something wonderful
Holding back (holding back) but now I'm brave enough to surrender.

Kicking the bricks    of a wall that's built to protect me
Hiding in the sticks    afraid You will select me
So many things must come undone,
Have mercy on a rebellious son

I was holding back (holding back) but I was missing something wonderful
Holding back (holding back) but now I'm brave enough to surrender

Holding back (holding back) and I was missing something wonderful
Holding back (holding back) but now I'm brave enough to surrender
      (surrender, surrender)

Starving myself     I was wandering in the Promised Land
Protecting the Bread     extended by Your Loving Hand
So many things must come undone,
Have mercy on a rebellious son

I was holding back (holding back) but I was missing something wonderful
Holding back (holding back) but now I have faith enough to surrender

Holding back (holding back) but I was missing something wonderful
Holding back (holding back) but now I'm brave enough to surrender   (surrender, surrender)

Welcome to A.D. 2007

Anothe
r day of Holy Coincidence is about to begin...

Here is an interesting day journaled by Melissa while she was in Liberia with the Stonegate Mission Team.  (click here)

In from Moscow:

Dear Rob and Cathy,

Just a quick note to let you know that Joe got here safe and sound and is safely tucked away at my friends the Gilberts.  Tomorrow we are going to see some of the must sees of Moscow.  Thanks for sending him.  It is a great blessing to have him here.

Mary Chase

This was in Mary's Prayer Requests for this week:

This coming week Joe and I, along with the other Americans who help with my English club will be getting together with those who attend my English club and hopefully others to have fun together.  My prayer is that as we have informal times together that we will have opportunities to get to know our Russian friends better and to share the reason that we are here in Russia.  I am including a schedule of our events so that you can be praying for us during the week.

Tuesday, Jan. 2nd           baking American foods at my house

Wednesday, Jan. 3rd      bowling

Thursday, Jan. 4th          movie in English at my house

Friday, Jan. 5th              tour of Kolomenskaya Park

Sunday, Jan. 7th            English club-Joe will lead

Monday, Jan. 8th            look at holiday lights in center of city

Tuesday, Jan. 9th           Jewish tour of Moscow

In addition to all of these activities I am hoping that Joe will have the opportunity to make some evangelistic visits with Jews who are not yet believers.  He may also have the opportunity to do some street evangelism. Please pray that God will bring that together and that he will be able to meet with those whose hearts are seeking after the Lord.

Ross Farrow, from the Lodi News Sentinel called me while I was at Tsunami. He wanted to know my prayer for the coming year. After we talked, he told me that he would probably write a story about me leaving the pastorate in Galt.

Here is the other story about my departure:

Galt pastor to leave after 10 years

Rob Patterson, pastor of Galt First Baptist Church for more than 10 years, is leaving the community, most likely to join a church in Auburn.

Rob Patterson

Patterson's last sermon at First Baptist was on Christmas Eve. He will attend Sunday morning's service and play the grand piano and guitar at a 6 p.m. concert at the church.

"That will be my final good-bye," said Patterson, who performs and writes Christian music.

Patterson has been tentatively selected to become pastor at Bell Road Baptist Church in Auburn. The church's call committee invited him to give a sermon on Jan. 7, after which the congregation will vote on whether to accept him as its pastor. A 90 percent vote is required for Patterson to join the church.

If the Auburn position falls through, Patterson said he will move to western Africa, where he has struck a friendship with Richard Wesley Sr., a minister in poverty stricken Liberia.

Patterson and Wesley met in 2003 after Wesley found Galt First Baptist on the Internet. Patterson has visited Liberia several times since then and helped build a sanctuary, medical clinic and children's home while enrolling 100 children in school.

If he goes to Africa, Patterson will probably teach children, which have an 80 percent illiteracy rate.

During his tenure at First Baptist, Patterson has traditionally called Galt "the epicenter of God's activity in the 21st century."

"I'm going to continue to refer to Galt as the epicenter," Patterson said.
