Hello Gang,

Happy holidays for working people!!! Okay quick update:-

Charts

FLY FM Campur Charts - It's been 3 weeks. We debut at No.9 and sat on the No.7 for the past 2 weeks. For your kind continuous support, text in 'campur twosidestoastory' and send it to 33661 or vote for it:
http://www.flyfm.com.my/flyfm_campurchart.asp

Xfresh FM Tiga Puluh - Vote for 'Gunung Harapan' as their DJs would put it (hehe) at http://www.xfresh.com/v9/chart.asp?chart=2. You need to have a free epass to login, but it's only a few simple steps to register.

Music Video

That's right, after almost 10 months since we started working on the music video shoot, it's only (around) 2 weeks away from post production completion. To refresh your memory, the video is a project by members of Citizens Dethink (formerly known as Prototype Playground); JL and CL. Talents included ourselves together with our supportive surrounding friends. The project was spread over several months in the 3rd quarter of 2006. We're excited as we just had a sneak preview of their work! More details soon

Others

Traxx FM is loading the song on their library and will air it soon. We have 3 upcoming shows but to be honest, we're still waiting for more details from the organizers.

Studio

Completed a new song (no name for it yet). It's a hard one and we're pretty excited playing it live!

That's all and keep rocking!

Hi guys,

Quick update! Campus Plus, a local college magazine recently interviewed us and you can check it out at our official 2sides page.

Also, while our web designer Tarry re-work on the gallery section (due to William's recent HD crashed that lost quite a number of files), we've managed to upload a few pictures from our recent studio hours.

Today, we received pictures of Song For Life concert. Thanks to the guys at Nottingham University! Will upload it soon.

Til then, ligten up and have a good life!

Hi gang...

Finally gathered enough money to pay my Internet bill...grr... Anyway, quick update:

1) Song For Life Charity Concert - 7th March 2007
It has been a week but the pretty good feeling still lingers amongst us. How did the show go? Fuckin' awesome! I'm not much of a blogger, so I'll make it simple. Hope you get the picture:

- Superb organisation, from start to end, from backstage to main hall... ushering, security ++ Kudos to the team behind the entire thing!
- GREAT COMPLIMENTARY DINNER  (while watching Kung Fu Hustle on screen)
- Lovely venue...
- Great sound on stage and off stage
- Friendly faces (includes artistes - esp Silent Scream)

2sides were the last to go on stage, after Silent Scream who (I must add) did the best rendition of Hinder's Lips of An Angel... They really got the crowd going. Right, we were up and EuJin had some problems with his guitars at first but it was sorted out pretty quick...

We started off by covering Dream Theatre's 'As I Am' as our warm up song (since we didn't do soundcheck); was an impromptu decision to play that song (although just to intro)..but the crowd responded and we knew we were hitting the right notes. Right before the song hit its original verse, we quickly went straight into our original "In Pieces"... one of our rockier stuff which the crowd cheered us on...

Moving on was "Sunday", the energy was at full scale when we hit the first chorus of the song. Ben, EJ and myself were jumping to Aie's beats whereby the crowd jumped along with us. It was a beautiful sight...truly...the lightings enhanced the performance too!

EJ got the crowd going when he teased them by saying we'll be dishing out some free demos...but I did the dirty job in the end...it was fun though, hope they'll enjoy the demo CD  as much as they were screaming for it!

We ended our set with "Hill of Hopes"... hands waving in the air... truly very motivating.

We at 2sides are grateful to be part of the charity concert and to be playing to such an amazing crowd...thanks everyone who were involved! A special shout out to Patricia Lim, events manager who contacted us in the first place and ensured we were doing okay throughout the entire concert!

ANOTHER GREAT NEWS!
Yesterday, we met up with Nick Lee @ Sonique Productions and this time, we left with something in hand...  If you have been following us, you probably would have guessed it by now!

Will be pretty busy preparing for its release...so watch this space! Excitement fills the band at the moment! May everything pave our way...

Got to go meet the music video guys!

Til then, keep on rocking!

Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

Hello gang. old man is back to bring you some updates on our musical progress. Cut the formalities, here you have it. We finally got intouch with our dear Prime Minister Mr. Nick Lee of Sonique Productions. Why we call em PM cuz he is so busy (and im the deputy, haha). Anyways, we passed Nick the raw track by track files for Hill Of Hopes, which he has checked and certified "mixable". So at least we know we are doing all the correct things tracking and recording our stuff. At long last, we can put this song behind us and start on the rest cuz frankly im so sick of listening to it for the 4 millionth time.

For your info, the drums for Hill Of Hopes were recorded in my bedroom, the upcoming recordings will all take place in our rehearsal spaces. We didnt particularly execute any soundproofing construction, just built 5 huge 4x8 gobos stuffed with rockwool all across strategic corners of the studio and let em rip. Of course we have our perfect corner just infront of our tracking room, minimum cable lenghts and acceptable acoustics, just need to position the mics properly. Last Saturday-Sunday (10-11 February 2007) our beloved drummer, Mr Aie Pinaapple nailed 6 tracks for the following songs.

1) In Pieces
2) Sunday
3) Arise
4) After Me
5) Fly Into The Sun
6) Fallen Angels

Ok, we didnt really setup all my gear there. We carted all my gear there for the night, but really, its not too many stuff. We left a couple of computer monitors there with the keyboard, the rest we carted from my place, just all the microphones, 1 mixer, 1 computer and a couple of outboards for the ADDA convertors. Complicated? Not really if you know what youre doing cuz all the infrastructor like the cables and power has been laid. So, its just plug and record. I plugged Mr.William aka Bass into the board to guide Pineapple on a few tracks, but the night clearly belongs to him. We recorded all together 10 inputs for his kit.

1) Kick
2) Snare (Top)
3) Snare (Bottom)
4) Tom 1
5) Tom 2
6) Tom 3
7) Hi Hats
8) Ride
9) Overhead Left
10) Overhead Right

All recorded "clean" with no compression and effects. Of course i already have my Cubase project bussed. This time around, the Kick is channeled to my Presonus Blue Tube Pre-amp, then sent to my Spirit board and then to the PC. Kinda got bored of the normal chain. Iam fortunate to work with such a good drummer. Yeah, we killed the clicks, cant be bothered with it, not to say Pineapple cant hack it, but its just us, feels better without the clicks.

Drums are completed, next will be William finding his bass tone. Ok, so most people like to record direct for bass but do i care? My initial process while recording Hill OF Hopes gave me a few ideas. Im so sick of the conventional bass tone. Its just so boring. We're not exactly rich with lotsa money to buy expensive gears, just work with what we have. Anyone tried miking up a bass amp before? So, while Bass finds his soulmate (on his Jazz bass) i'll just sit around and think about this new riff thats been in my head for weeks. Should i drop the tuning to D or just play standard? Again, im kinda bored with standard tuning nowadays, time to do something alittle different huh?

Thats all i have for now. We had lotsa fun that night doing the beat recordings. We packed up at 5.30am, on the way home with William, it was just silence. Too much spl's ringin in my head, not too mention the alco and the other stuff. It was nice for Aaron and Zaidi to drop by. William was tired, Pineapple was looking so batu-ed. Eujin passed out and i got 6 projects wave files to study and check. That, for me beats any party you'd have in KL for the weekend.

Current mood:  crazy
Category: Religion and Philosophy

Hello gang! how is it going? its your favourite old man of 2sides back here again, posting some nonsense....nevertheless...id like to thank all the friends and people who turned up for our feature nite last Sunday (Feb 4). The never-ending support from our friends & you know who you are. One guy i can remember, present at all our shows, is Mr. Eddie Oon. He has been there since day 1, even before i joined the band. Many thanks goes to this fella for being there, lending Eu Jin his Ibanez acoustic, his encouragements and his aura just makes it more interesting. It would be weird having a show without him prancing around while i hassle him and look at his stunned expressions. And congrats to Eddie and Charlotte. After months of courtship, they finally got together, calling each other "dahlinnnggg"....ugh...sweet aye? Well, one final hassle from the ol man online...thanks for being there. We wont take you for granted...any of the guys give u shit, i will put them straight....ok?

Ok, enough about Eddie. He is so high with his dahling now that i bet he wont be reading this. Moving on...another brother id like to mention is Mr. Justin. Thanks for lending Eu Jin your Taylors. Dont think we've forgotten you, haha. Yes, that Tech 21 sounds awesome!

The night started with the old 2sides line-up, with me the ol man on drums and Alvin Lim (of RedFM, tune daily from 2-4pm) back on guitars for 2 songs, "All We Live For" and a Malay number, "Janjimu Tiada". It was really fun for me to be bashing the drums again. This is real modern alternative stuff. Alvin has always been good with his clean guitar pluckings, Will carries the rhytm with his bass while i just ride on with him. As usual, Eu Jin with his lovey dovey vocals. On and all, it was a short and happy set. I was kinda nervous on drums cuz havent been on stage for a while, but seeing the familiar faces behind the drum kit was comforting (aie says i hit too hard tho, haha...)

Next up, Brainhead. What can i say? They are tight as usual, clean timing, the sound was awesome (thanks to the soundman!!! he did a very good job). The guitars sounded exceptionally well balanced as the delayed guitars swirled around the atmosphere, i thought i was watching a live show in Bali or something. I can see they drew Indonesian/Balinese influence in their music. Ajan still croons like a star, Ajin was having fun no doubt. Usually he will just stone there playing his strat, this time around, he looks really at ease and really having fun. Zack looks so serious when he's on stage but totally different when he's off it. Aie Pineapple, no doubt he is having lotsa positive energy. His hihat tricks were immaculate. I dunno how to describe their sound, i was just in tranced with them. I loved their new track, "Persis" (this is definitiely radio material) but my favourite (my friends, Melvin and Ee Han concurred) "Dunia" is the best. Powerful ending, it was just surreal. On another note, William was commenting on their soundcheck, these guys really know what they were doing, go up, set up, adjusted the volume, THEN only make noise. Thats professional. 2sides has gotta learn that.

Moving on, we have our friends all the way from Penang, presenting POSEIDON! I have to apologize cuz they didnt have the time do do any soundcheck. As usual, Thevan and gang really rocked it out big time. I have always enjoyed their sets. CFU's shreddin and tappin was really accurate and classy (unlike guitar wankers...) backed up by Big Daddy, both slingin Ibanez. Loved their melodies on guitars. Suren, the big bass player (he looks ganas but dont be fooled, friendly and soft spoken) locking in with their new drummer. Darn, i kinda forgot his name cuz i was mesmerized with his playing. This Chinese dude, he looks so polite and nice, but when he hits the drums, darn...my eyes just popped out! I mean, he is really good and he's got stamina! He was allegedly from a totally different scene in Penang, more to grind and metal, so this is like "slow" stuff for him, haha...Nevertheless...they rocked ths house alright. My favourite track was Paracetamol. Something about the lead guitars in the begining that kept on playing in my head the first time i saw them at Paul's Place Damansara Utama. When the verse kicks in, the rhytm guitars are just killers. That riff! Couldnt get it outta my head. ITs infectious, definitely not for the light hearted. PROGALROX at its best! Thevan was in shirts and slacks with shiny shoes fronting the band. Did i see a neck tie there? Hehe, he was running up and down have to rush to a wedding and play the show. Much respect goes out to the band...they've promised and kept their word playing the show. Thanks alot bros...Journey Unfolds is a slow number, my new favourite, really soothing vocals and guitars, PROGALROX style. Loved the lyrics too. Check them out on myspace or go directly yo their site: http://www.earthshakers.cjb.net/

Well, finally, this old man and the latest 2sides line up hit the stage. Did we played a good show? Id like to think we did. But i'll save this for someone else to review us. Our tracklist for that night;

1) Arise

2) After Me

3) Fly In To The Sun

4) Sunday

5) In Pieces

6) Fallen Angels

7) Hill Of Hopes

Thanks to William for his efforts to copy and design the demo cd cover. Personally, this ole man here enjoyed the show. "After Me" & "Fallen Angels" was the first time we played them on stage. Prior to this, we had problems with these tracks on the arrangements but thank God we sorta sorted it out and attained a nice feel to it. I do hope you guys enjoyed the show cuz we really did.

Ok gang, thats all i have right now. Til then, take care and hang on. Life aint no bed of roses, just keep looking up at that hill of hopes. Cheerioss...

Happy New Year everyone!!! Whatever happens in 2007, just remember to keep rockin' out with us!

Posted some pictures taken by Justin Foo and Alda Stannis (thanks guys) at Rock The World 7! It's at our pictures section...check it out! Our stage was a bit dark, the lights were not on full-scale due to power tripping encountered that day at the stadium. But still worth your few minutes to check it out!

Lastly, do come to our FIRST headlining show at KL Jam Asia next month! Details available at the upcoming shows section...It should be a great night as we have the chance to share the stage with 2 of our favourite local bands, Brainhead and Poseidon... who happens to be very very cool people! Also, we'll be having 2 special guests to be featured during our 45-mins set!

p/s: Erm, about the website / Hill of Hopes radio single & video / album ... can't answer much at the moment as we're pretty much in the dark as well... wish we knew too

Have a good day and rock on!

Regards,
Will @2sides

Current mood:  calm

rock the world 7 has concluded. our lives seems so ordinary after the event. did we play a good show? i dunno, id like to think that we did. it was the ONLY show we'd play with so many people in the crowd. tho i cant hear anything from my monitors, only drums and vocals, aie cant hear anything at all...yeah, we screwed up a couple of places here and there, but it was all good cuz we enjoyed it so much. it was straight from the heart. so, wats next?

we have an upcoming show at KL Jam Asia in feb 4. its time for us to rock it out again. i guess rtw7 was a real eye opener for me. our previous gigs, we always play to a non-existant crowd. i read somewhere bands should give it all even when playing to one person in the audience. i couldnt agree more...come what may...feb 4, we promise to give it all we've got...cuz u guys (whoever u are) deserve it, even if its one fella...see you soon.
