tennessee trees and a foggy blog-
im a bloggin' the trees are blooming kids. tennessee trees are the most beautiful in spring.
record is done. can you believe it? what a crazy path ive been on. as some of you know, ive been picked up by cityslang records.. im very excited about working with this label. i know its been awhile, and i cannot thank you enough for hanging in there with me thru the fog. it was quite thick for awhile, all the music business mumbo jumbo can start to become tedious,,but, its tough times kids. and i wrote a "tough" song for the record. called 17 horses.. im curious to see how you guys will respond to it. truth is - i cannot stick with one genre. you will see that this record is all over the place stylistically because as usual, if i had to stick with one "thing" i would go out of my mind. anyway. record is done. boys. boy oh boy.
so..ive got some show dates in europe-some with the lovely mr andrew bird who i ADORE. what a gentleman. a gifted, talented gentleman and his fellow bandmates are golden. we open for him in london .. see below for full list of tour dates and/or also the show section of the site. im also opening for beth orton. ive always loved her music. (my husband todd has a crush on her) good thing im solo for this one ;)
how bout the website?! thanx to my dear friend paul for putting this together for me. the intro is my basement, the green chord organ what i used while first learning to drum and play keys at same time. feverqueen because i can tell you the exact degree of your fever. always. since ive had children ive always been able to sense fevers. or when they're coming. i know you think bogus. but true it is! (and i once wrote a song called feverqueen with my friend wyatt) THANK YOU WYNDHAM FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!
happy spring younglings! everything is new. lets celebrate. count the clover, smell the buttercups, cry in the thunderstorm.

here is the "official" announcement:
THE "SON AND MOON" RISES: CORTNEY TIDWELL CONFIRMS HOMETOWN RESIDENCY FOR JUNE 2008
CORTNEY TIDWELL has confirmed a two date residency in her hometown of Nashville to take place at The Basement on Wednesday June 11th and Wednesday June 18th. The shows will offer fans their first opportunity to see and hear a wide selection of tracks taken from her second full length album SON AND MOON, work on which is currently nearing completion.
The shows will also allow Cortney an opportunity to celebrate the currently thriving Nashville musical scene. A number of both established and up-and-coming local acts will appear during the course of the two shows, including Kurt Wagner (Lambchop), The Lone Official, The Privates and Altered Statesmen, with more to be added.
CORTNEY TIDWELL's debut album, Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up, was released to universal critical acclaim in 2006 (2007 in the US). Cited as one of the best ten albums of the year by the UK's Sunday Times newspaper, it was an astonishingly eclectic and genre-defying mix of the many musical forms that had inspired it, from indie rock to country to electronica to folk and way beyond, all held together by her extraordinary voice. A remix of the title track by the esteemed producer, DJ and musician Ewan Pearson – a massive fan of Cortney's – brought her to the attention of a wider audience, the track ending up in Pitchfork's roundup of 2007's Tracks Of The Year.
TIDWELL also toured the US with Andrew Bird, the UK with Ed Harcourt, and her new record features a duet with Jim James of My Morning Jacket,

hi.
happy spring.
springtime in tennessee is my favorite time of year really. the trees in tennessee are beautiful and when they bloom- oh they are so amazing. im glad winter is over i was depressed most of the winter.. as most people are i suppose. ive been painting, sketching a lot of trees-- i feel like a tree sometimes.. if you could be a tree, youd be a ..?
id be a magnolia ;)--ha
new record.
im posting this blog to give you an update actually, ive had so many emails (thank you) asking when the new record will be finished. well. i wish i could give you a release date but i cannot. i CAN however tell you that, i am nearing the end. all the songs are tracked and i have just a few more things to do but for the most part- we are closing in on this thing. you see, for me- recording is always a long , drawn out process. no matter how much i dream of going into a studio and churning it out in a month, it just cant happen. im too picky, im too controlling and i write as i go along, usually borrowing from bad memories or good/bad nasty experiences... to be honest, these last two years have been overwhelmingly dramatic in the land of cortney tidwell (which makes a good record- er- well i hope) you see, i cannot make good records when im happy. it just cant happen.. so in the wake of touring and the groovy times ive been having- i guess it took some time to come down , it took some time to cultivate memories .. and it took some time for the bad shit to happen ( and whoa boy it happened) it will all come out in the songs my pretties.
much love to you all i really feel like this is gonna be a great year. i really feel like this is a special record. im ready to let go of it very soon....
i must let go i must let go i must let go i must let go
i am not good at letting go of anything
thank you for caring ...
love cortney

when i first heard there was going to be joni mitchell tribute record, i was excited, elated and bummed because i could not be a part of it... so much of my musical existence stems from her music, her ideas, her courage and strength. she is the biggest inspiration to me still.... for the last twenty years of my life she was there, when no one else could be found. and she seemed to understand my feelings, she had the answers to my questions..
and i wonder if these people who contribute in her honor, love her like i do.. ?? i wonder..
she deserves our respect.. she deserves yours , she deserves mine, she is a wizard of poetry... her lyrics are, in my opinion, some of if not the most important of our time.. her creativity with rhythm and words combined, is special.. she has a special gift and she deserves to be honored and adored..
she is a queen.. she is a dream... with all these men (dylan, young, ) around stealing all her glory all these years. ( i love dylan mind you, but she was never recognized like he was and still is) when they get around to it,, they will realise how important.. how superior she is.. she is in another time, and place.. she has insight like no other woman.. she interprets our feelings, our vulnerabilty and transforms it into something beautiful.. ... her perception of the female mind is amazing.. she is amazing..
so let it be known that i worship at the altar of joni. forever and always

'songs to aging children come'
through the windless wells of wonder
By the throbbing light machine
In a tea leaf trance or under
Orders from the king and queen
Songs to aging children come
Aging children, I am one
People hurry by so quickly
Dont they hear the melodies
In the chiming and the clicking
And the laughing harmonies
Songs to aging children come
Aging children, I am one
Some come dark and strange like dying
Crows and ravens whistling
Lines of weeping, strings of crying
So much said in listening
Songs to aging children come
Aging children, I am one
Does the moon play only silver
When it strums the galaxy
Dying roses will they will their
Perfumed rhapsodies to me
Songs to aging children came
This is one

comfort me in truth
by heart and soul youll never know where beauty lies.. youll never know when fair love dies only when it stabs you far too soon looking up to falling stars for answers.. i dont get them passing back and forth beyond our memory traipsing up and down beyond the cemetary gate i know here lies my fate i know she lies while here i wait
to be rescued ..
by who .? by you? im no fool
only fond of futures i be and more and more im able to see light thru the darkness dark i am and i will cling to seasons of my youth seasons gone no truth
just illusion
and need for something more.
. more wishes i cannot hide..
and dreams sometimes
just
die
