We are slated to again take part in the annual Dayton Music Fest on Saturday October 4. Ruetschle will be playing at the Therapy Cafe in the opening 9 PM slot. The best news of the night is that Shawn Johnson will be in from Denver to restore his electrifying guitar to the Ruetschle line-up.

Also slated to play that night at other venues are Kris N. (I will be drumming), Shrug, Boston Spaceships (new Bob Pollard project), Towhee, Joe Anderl, Lab Partners and a bunch of other new and good Dayton artists. Cost is $10 and that pass is good for entry into all the participating venues. More info can be found at daytonmusicfest.com or myspace.com/daytonmusicfest .

As an update, we haven't been playing shows for a couple of reasons. First off, Shawn now lives in Denver, Colorado so booking has become quite a bit more difficult. Secondly we are working on multiple albums. Color Theory, our fourth full-length, is still in process. These things tend to take way longer than we ever plan. It will be done someday soon though, soon being a nice abstract word to work with. XL427 has also finished their debut album. Since that includes key member of Ruetschle, that obviously distracts from things. All that needs to be competed is artwork and some touring will ensue. You can preview the album now and grab some free songs at myspace.com/XL427 .

Thanks for listening and caring and we hope some of you can make it out to the Dayton Music Fest. It should be another great night of music.

Friday April 11 will be the first live show since October for us four lads in Ruetschle. What’s the occasion? Well it’s about time to debut some new songs from our next record "Color Theory". While the next record is not done yet, it has been good in the past for us to try songs out live before recording. So on April 11 at Canal Street Tavern you are invited to a nice little pop show featuring Ruetschle, Nick Kzirnis, and The Poor Devils. And please do let us know what works and what doesn’t, what songs you like, what you hate. There’s no guarantee we’ll listen to you, but we’ll at least look you in the eyes and nod our head in polite affirmation.

As I have previosuly mentioned, the next Ruetschle record will be entitled "Color Theory". We are about 3/4 of the way done in writing the songs. The recording should go pretty quickly after that. We are planning to release the record in October in conjunction with the Dayton Music Fest. It will be released on our own Poptek Recs.

I just want to update everyone on the happenings of Ruetschle . . .

We are still fasting from live shows to concentrate on writing songs for the new album. This will be our fourth full-length that I have tentatively titled "Color Theory". The rest of the band haven't voiced their opinion on the title yet, but in my mind it has already been decided.

Mike, Shawn, Cooper, and myself have had three writing sessions so far and already have 11 good ideas to work with. There is still a lot of drafting, tweaking, and fine tuning to do but I think we are satisfied with what we have to start with. Some of the song titles include "No Regrets", "Whole New World", something with a Would and another too many songs with a Could. Our initial plan was to try out the songs live in February and then record in February and March. I am not sure if we will make that time frame. With our sense of timeliness probably not. But we may still be able to record in March. I just don't know if we have time to set up the live experiments by February.

Also expect a redesigned ruetschle.net as well as a new poptek.com in the very near future. That's all I have to say for now. Thanks for listening.

Since we don't have any shows scheduled in the upcoming months, it looks like we have decided to use that time to write songs for the next record. We have already added two new songs to the set, "Would You Pursue" and another whose name is escaping me at the moment, but it will be nice to actually take time to arrange them and collaborate on the new ideas Mike has cycling through his head. I'm still proud of our last record "Exotic Destinations" and that just makes the idea of writing an even better album that much more exciting.

In conjunction with the launch of Amazon's Digital Music Store, "Ruetschle plays Exotic Destinations" and "Lesser than Opaque" are on sale for just $5.99 each. These are DRM-free downloads. If you do not have these albums this is a great way to cure your curiosity or complete your collection. Also check out "Why Don't You Know Me Yet?" from our labelmate Graham Travis for the same $5.99 sale price.

This weekend was such a joy. We played at the invite-only GratisFest which takes place on a small farm in Switzerland County, Indiana. You don't know where that is? Exactly. Our set was at 7 PM on Saturday which went quite well for not having anytime before hand to practice. I think what was more enjoyable was the time camping, meeting new people, and hanging out with old friends and bandmates. The music was quite good as well. The Pomegranates are a Cincinnati band that just signed with Lujo Records. They seemed to be the surprise of the weekend. They had great energy and some good songs.

The Sheds also were very nice. Their new drummer, while very subtle, adds a lot to their sound and makes their live show more comparable to their records. I am realizing more and more just how good of songwriters Cameron and Chris are. Their quirky backwoods Americana just works. For me, probably the most beautiful parts of The Sheds' set were the guest singers. When friends like Uncle Joe, Shisho, and Matt Shelton guested on the songs "Mtn Cat" and "Reflection of the Sun", it not only was good music but it also seemed to sum up the intent of GratisFest; simplicity, friendliness, and creativity.

If anyone ever gets the chance to go or play, my recommendation is strong.

If you like the simple pop of Ruetschle you might also be interested in another band, XL427. It's actually Ruetschle a bit reworked. These are my songs and a chance for me to leave the drumming behind to sing and play acoustic guitar. Every drummer wants to be a front man, so I try to take the banner for drummers everywhere. Mike Ruetschle gets to sit back and play lead melodies on the electric. Cooper is on bass in both bands. And Dan Stahl (Shrug, American Static) joins on drums. I have actually been working on these songs and dreaming of making a weird but poppy folk record for years. We're close, oh so close.

We are about half way finished recording the debut EP "Yesterdays Forever" and shows seem to be popping up more and more. Once we have some finalized recordings I will post them at poptek.com and on the XL427 MySpace page I have been intending to create for a while now. Maybe i already did. Anyway, best case scenario sees "Yesterdays Forever" released this fall on Poptek Recs followed by a tour down the West Coast.

Starting May 14 you will be able to hear Ruetschle on your local radio station. That is thanks to Boston's Planetary Group who will be lobbying for us to be played on 350 CMJ and NPR radio stations across the United States. So if you have that unquenchable desire to hear a good pop song amidst all the usual wanking that fills up corporate and independent radio, dial up your favorite DJ and ask to hear "Don't Turn Around" or "Can You Remember?". We will greatly appreciate the support and we just hope that the pop songs will fill the air and make everyone's day sweeter.

I posted two new songs today. Well they are not new, they are songs from Exotic Destinations. I just haven't unveiled them online before now so unless you have bought the album, they are new to you. Please do check them out. They are sloppy and poppy but what else would you expect from us.

Bright- Our snottiest song yet with out-of-key bgvs and a chorus that takes off. The chorus guitar line from Shawn Johnson is my absolute favorite of all he contributed to the album.

So Complicated- It's one of two dream songs from the album. And it may be one of the singles pushed when Exotic Destinations gets sent out to independent radio next month. It turned out much stronger than I anticipated.
