My little home of the Isle of Man is a gentle laid back place that time could simply forget..if it wanted to..
We are famous for castles, rich celtic heritage, the biggest water wheel in the world, the bee gees and who could forget the TT Races..the world's oldest road race(101 years this year!).
In all of those things we are famous for, something which wouldnt usually be included is innovation, looking to reach out into the unknown. But this year the Isle of Man will be the home of the very first Green TT Road Race. The Green TT will be a race of clean emission technologies and our chance to show the world that being green doesn't mean going slow!
I have been very proud over the past few years to be involved in the TT festival from my association with the wonderful Steve Hislop RIP to having had the honour of opening the festival each of the past 3 years singing the Manx National Anthem and the unoffical anthem "Ellan Vannin" before the start of the first and final days of races. The feeling as a Manx person of my heart racing as I stand there and sing the beautiful lyrics to Ellan Vannin have been some of the proudest moments of my musical life.
This year to celebrate the launch of the new Green TT the organisers are going all out with a concert. They are flying in the wonderful London Metropolitan Orchestra to open the new festival on Thursday June 11th at the Villa Marina Hall.
I have been falling over myself to be able to tell you but have been sworn to secrecy until now...but
finally I can give you my amazing news..
The organisers having given me the honour of being able to sing with the prestigious 72 piece orchestra!!!!
I have to admit this will be THE performance of my entire career. Little me with a HUGE orchestra. I am so ecstatic, proud and pretty much bursting with a mixture of lots of other excited emotions.
I can't tell you the song just yet but my lovely producer and good friend Dave Armstrong and I think we've come up with a winner to be able to include my classical and more contemporary sides.
The hard work is here now with the task that we have with arranging the piece and scoring it for the orchestra in time for the concert..something that is being relished.
The next two months will be about scoring with techincal help from the wonderful and graciously supportive Charles Guard (of the Manx Heritage Foundation who were a massive support in the production of "Let it Rain") and then off to London for rehearsals with the orchestra..there was talk of Abbey Rd Studios in there but I just won't believe it until I see it with my own eyes! And then marching on into June for a night that I am sure will be hard to be surpassed by any other.
I have been dying to share my news with you as you have all been so supportive of my music. I struggle to comprehend sometimes that good things really do come to those who work hard and wait ,maybe not as patiently as they should, for the good stuff to come.
Singing with an orchestra has been on my wish list since I was a little girl with big classical dreams but now I am going to get the chance..and be able to rock out in the bargain..good times!!
At this moment I am a very very happy easter bunny :O)
Some other good stuff to come but thats a whole other blog altogether..
