This month's Song of the Week is something new, for a
change. I just finished this version of Anhedonia (3.6 MB, 160
kbps). I think I'll put it on the Clydes album, whenever that
gets released.

Well, I'm not very good at doing things by deadlines, so
the Song of the Week is becoming a bit more like the Song of Whenever I
Feel Like It, but here's the latest: Money In the Bag,
(11.2 MB, 320 kbps) It's by Hop, my old band from Austin in the
early 90's. Drums: Greg
Thibeaux. Bass: Rich Wooson. Vocals and goofy guitar: me.

This week's Song of the Week: Mr. Mitochondrion. I recorded this on 4-track cassette in 2003, back when I was
just learning to play the drums. I'm going to redo it for the
album but I kinda like the rawness of this demo version.

Forgot to post last week's Song of the Week here, but this week's freebie is Starling, by the Clydes. It was written and sung by the incomparable Melinda Dock. I played all the instruments. See myspace.com/theclydes for more of Melinda's lovely tunes.

I'm not doing a whole lot with my website-- www.davidmorrisonmusic.com-- at the moment, being busy working on the album, but I have introduced the Free Song of the Week: a different free download every week. This week: that old Maddison Atkins chestnut, Light Up My Way.

Kudos to John, Pharaby, Brianne and all the crew at Red Boot Music for the fine-looking packaging and ace audio post-production on Rocky Tippit's album Young and Pretty, which is now out. I think. I mean, I got some in the mail. (I co-produced it and played a lot of the instruments.) If it's not, it will be soon. The Sutton Agency is handling the launch.
We worked our asses off to make the best Rocky Tippit record we could. Go buy one. Rocky needs guitar strings.

First they were refrigerator-sized. Now they are immortal. I'm telling you, only the power of the internets can protect you from the impending, squishy apocalypse:

Thank you to Roberts Pierson and Fisher for ably seeing to a terrific show at the Off Center in Austin last week. The venue was set up beautifully. I don't believe I've ever played to a friendlier, more attentive audience. And the new Able Sea lineup sounds great - I encourage all lovers of dreamy pop soundscapes to get out there and experience them whenever they play next. ALSO, if you happen at the moment to be stranded in Nacogdoches, Texas, may I humbly suggest that you make your way down to the Fredonia Hotel this evening at 8:00? Not only are Jeromy and I playing, not only that I say, but also it just so happens that Adam Lamar is in town and he will also be apearing too, as well. And it all costs nothing and is free. Plus we're not charging. If only Dan Grissom was in town, we could have a Beards & Beers reunion, but as it is, it's more like a Beatles reunion after John Lennon died but while George Harrison was still with us, if no-one had ever heard of the Beatles.

Current mood:gelatinous
Even though Americans drove 100 billion miles less this year than the year before, giant jellyfish spawning in the ocean's dead zones are still taking over the world. (Don't take my word for it - google it. Maybe next time you'll believe me.)
But that's neither here nor there, it's everywhere, which is just too big for one dude's blog. I'm driving to Texas.
I'll be playing in Austin on Sat Dec 20 at the Off Center with my friends The Able Sea. I'll be the opening act. I'll borrow a guitar. Everyone has a better guitar than me anyway. It starts at 9:00 and I think it costs $7.
Then on Sat Dec 27 I'll be playing in Nacogdoches with Jeromy at the Fredonia Hotel. (Google it.) Jeromy will play, then I'll play. (I'll borrow Jeromy's guitar.) Then, if we've have a chance to rehearse, we'll do some songs together. That one starts at 8:00 and costs free.
It's no degrees outside and there's some snow. I pawned my bass today and bought some burritos. I'll get it out when I come back to Iowa in January, if the jellyfish haven't slunked up onto land yet. I guess they wouldn't be able to get to the midwest by then in any case. They'd probably assimilate the coastal communities first. And that could have a big effect on the economy, because I think most of our oil comes through the ports. But I have to be back at work on Jan. 5, so I'll just wing it - it's worked for me so far in this life, if you can call it that. If I have to offer sexual favors to catch a ride on a military convoy, well, so be it. I've got rent to pay.
