Dismembered In December 04/12/08 ..

It was hard, it was fast, it was straight up metal!!

On the 4th of December 2008, DownTime Events hosted our first show, "Dismembered In December" at the Glasgow Barfly, and it was nothing short of amazing.

Kicking the night of was Komatoze, Greenocks finest metal monsters. This band may have only more than a year of experience together, but, walking on with a true confidence on their faces, this band looks like theyve been doing this for years. Firing through a great set, only stopping for some quick words to the audience and a few drinks, Komatoze are not an easy band to take your eyes off of. They not only play their songs, they perform them in true metal style : hair swinging, guitars blazing, and drums pounding. Vocalist/Guitarist Paul Harrison definetly knows what it takes to be a frontman, blasting a hole through the audience with extremely powerful vocals, and insane guitar-playing, which draws comparison to Machine Head frontman, Robb Flynn. Drummer Martin Hodge and Bassist Iain Mcdonald are definetly the glue holding this band together, with a great collaboration between which makes for a solid rhythm section that should be applauded. The iciing on the cake in this band though is Guitarist Connor Williamson, who, quite obviously, has huge talent with a guitar, and has no problem showing it. Showing off every trick that he pull out, he fires through the bands set, without a hint of arrogance over the skill he has. This fret-board wizard doesnt just play a guitar, he shows how it should be played. Komatoze, i applaud you on a magnificent set. 10 out of 10.

Next up, Glasgow metal giants, Syth. Entering to the masterpiece "Duel Of The Fates" from Star Wars, this shows right away that this set is going to be something special. Blasting straight into an insane set thats dissapoints no-one, Syth are quite clearly a band who will be moving up the venues in Scotland with great success. Power Metal at its finest, this energetic and exciting set is one to be admired, with each member of the band playing to the absolute best of their ability. Vocalist/Guitarist Niall Russell stands center stage, hitting the audience with vocals that shake the very foundations of the Barfly, and playing insane guitar that truly defines metal. Fellow guitar player Barry "Baz" Fitzsimmons is equally as impressive, shredding earth shattering guitar riffs with great ease, this is a man who knows the true meaning of the word "Rock". Drummer Mark Connelly is a genuine artist on drums tonight, pounding his way through the entire set with sheer ferocity and style that is rarely seen nowadays. His drums resonate through the Barfly, like a war cry to let everyone know that this is not a band who will go down easy. Bassist Allen Bell shows tonight what it takes to truly play bass with skill. Equipped with a 6-string bass, his skills are close to extraordinary, playing with the skills of the great metal bass players, such as Dream Theaters John Myung, and Metallica's late bassist, Cliff Burton. Tonight, Syth are on fire, and deliver a set that will be remembered by all in attendance.

The night starts and ends on a high, as both bands are on their top form tonight, and deliver blazing sets that they should all be proud of. A great night indeed!
